IEXTREMELY POLITE.
I EXTREMELY POLITE. The officials on the Rome, Waterwwn, and Ogdensburg Railroad, between Utioa and Mas- Bena Springs, N.Y., are noted for their courtesy. Two ladies, in a little town in northern New York, who had not met for some time, met one day on the railroad track which runs through the main street of the town. Their meeting was marked by an exclamation and ombraoes. The train pulled in at the station, near where the ladies stood chatting. The passengers got off. J'he trunks were trundled away. 46U the train did not go on. After about twenty minutes, the engineer alighted and stepped up to the ladies. Politely removing his cap, he remarked: "Par- 1 don me, ladies, for interrupting you; but we had planned on reaching Potedara this morning. and I if you would not mind stopping off the traok we t will be moving along."

Davies, Ton-Pentre, presided. The Rev. 0. Waldo Roberts, Treorchy. proposed excellent suggests ns dealing with the problem of the children of the churches—in the Band of Hope, the prayer meeting, the Sunday School, and the preaching service—and the same were ordered to be immediately printed and distributed. The timely remarks of the vice-presi- dont. Mr. James Rees, Tyiorstown, on the preservation of the SaBbath were well received and confirmed in a resolution to be forward.ed to the Home Office. Th I speaker had no sympathy witfl the cry o "Wales for the Welsh," but whilst th< Welsh desired and were compelled by lav to close their .establishments on Sunday foreigners also must be compelled to re spect the Welsh Sabbath. The Rev. T. Humphreys, ljlaenllechau in his report on the Sunday School, re ported an increase in the, number wh sat the Scripture examinations, hut the majority of the prizes had gone to tllf- Aberdare Valleys. A vote of sympathy was unanimously passed with Dr. Morris and Noddf: Church, Treorchy, in their recen vexatious trial in the law ccorts, express ing pleasure at the clear satisfactory result. Sympathy was alio expressed with Mrs. Williams (widow of the lat. Rev. Anthony Williams, Nebo) in hev bereavement. Pleasure was expressed with the Rev. Isaac Jones Ferndale, and Mr. David Evans, Cymmer, in their con tinued improvement after a trying illness I Mr. Enos George (secretaiy) proposed a change in the hour of meeting owing to I the sparse attendance of delegates a+ recent meetings, and it was decided t, c-ommence future meetings at 6 o'clock.
SOMETHING FOR YOUNG FOLKS.J
SOMETHING FOR YOUNG FOLKS. J A MISCHIEVOUS MONKEY. Some years ago, on board a ship coming from Jamaica, there was among the passengers a lady with a very young baby. The captain of the ship owned a large monkey, which was made rather | a pet of by the sailors. One morning, as the mother was taking her baby for an airing on deck, the captain, who was looking at a ship in the distance, asked her if she would care to look a)t it through his glass. The lady laid the little child down on a comfortable chair, and took the glass from the captain. A moment later she heard an exclamation from one of the sailors, and, turning round, saw that the monkey had picked up her baby, and was climb- ing the mast with it as fast he he could go. He held the baby firmly with one arm, whiie ;he used the other and his feet for climbing, The mother was speechless with terror, and the cap- tain and sailors were much alarmed, Some of the men, who could, of course, climb as we.l as the monkey, tried to follow him up tha rigging, but the monkey watched them and went higher up, and they were afraid that he might drop the child as soon as they got close to him. Presently tiab baby began to cry, and the mon- key imitated the nurse by soothing and caressing it, and trying, apparently, to get it to sleep. A great many plans were tried to indueethe mon- key to bring the little one down, but all failed, and the mother fainted with fright. At laat the captain ordered all the men to con- ceal themselves below, and he himself hid in a place where he could see all that was going on without being seen. This plan succeeded, for the monkey, supposing himself no longer watched, gave up his game, began to climb do?, and was Joon on th? deck again, where he laid the baby on the ohair from which he had taken .t, and made off aa if to ewMQ^punishonent. The 3 was given back to iti§ mother, who not to hi it out of her øigbt for th. raft of t>v roygm.
