WQUPI)N'T HURT HER, Cleanliness is a virtue, no doubt, but, like other virtues, it may be carried to excess. So it hap- pened with an old fisherman at a seaside resort, who made It one of the chief enda of his life to keep his boat immaculate. On one occasion a gentleman had hired him to tske himself and; ayoung lady out for an after- noon's fishing. The boat could not be brought near enough to the shore to allow them to step in so, the old. sailor, taking the young lady in his arms, was abcab to deposit her in the boat, when he caught sight of some mud on her boots. Instantly he stopped and dipped both her feet up to the ankles in the sea, paddling them back- wards and forwards to remove the mud, in spite of the protests of the Owner. His only remark as he finally put her on board was: Bless yer, miss, salt water won't hart yer.'
