CAUOXTON-BARRY. LOCAL APPOINTMENT.—At a. meeting of the Rumney School Board held on Monday evening last, Mr Arthur L. Howell, Colebrook, Cadoxton, the registrar of births and deaths for Penarth district, and school attendance officer to the Cardiff Union, was appointed to the vacant post of attendance officer. CHURCH MISSION OUTING.—A party of about forty members and friends of the Church Mission, Main-street, Cadoxton, had a most enjoyable holiday visit to Abergavenny on Monday last. The party left Cadoxton by a saloon train, pro- vided by the Barry Railway Company, and arrived at their destination about noon, and. until dinner- time the party visited the churches and other places of historic interest in the town. Dinner was provided at the Swan Hotel, after which the company were photographed, and then proceeded to Crickhowell by brakes. On their return tea was partaken of. A start was made for home at nine o'clock, every one being quite delighted with the day's outing, the arrangements for which had been well carried out in every detail. WESLEYAN ANNIVERSARY,—Cadoxton Wesleyan Chapel held its anniversary at the Theatre Royal, Cadoxton, on Sunday last. The Rev E. A. Buchanan, Cardiff, delivered stirring sermons in the morning and evening and in the afternoon a special musical service was held, consisting of solos, recitations, and dialogues by the children. The chair on the occasion was occupied by Mr H. Wallis, Dinas Powis. Mr J. Lewis was the conductor, and Mr Cook, organist. On Wednesday a social was held in the schoolroom of the chapel, followed by a public meeting, when addresses were given by the circuit minister and others. Mr F. P. Scriven, Penarth, occupied the chain. A collection was made at each service on behalf of the Sunday School Funds.

BARRY DOCKS. BARRY CYCLING CLUB SPORTS.—These sports will be held at the Buttrills Ground on Saturday next. The entry, we are informed, is a good one. All seats free. PRESENTATION TO AN EX-OOUNCILLOR.-At a meeting held on Tuesday evening last at the Regent Hall, Barry Docks, an illuminated address and a purse of money were presented to Mr A. T. White, late district Councillor for the West Ward, in recognition of his public services to the town during the past three years. The proceedings were of a private character. Several addresses were delivered, Mr S. R. Jones Occupied the chair. THE LATE MR R. MORGAN.—The executor of the will of Mr Robert Morgan, of 172, Woodland- road, Barry Docks, who died on the 20th of November last, is his grandson, Mr Richard Jones, of 172, Woodland-road, insurance agent. The testator's will has been the subject of an auction at law, and a decree has been pronounced in favour of its force and validity. Mr Morgan's estate has been valued at EI,391 gross and 41,358 net. Collections will be made at each service in aid of the Sunday school funds. BENEFIT SMOKING CONCERT AT THE CONSERVA- TIVE CLUB.-For the benefit of Mr Jimmie Shields and his Pierot troupe, a smoking concert was held on Saturday evening last at the Conservative Club and Institute, Barry Docks, and proved to be one of the most successful ever held in connection with the institute, the talent being of an uniformly excellent character. Mr O. Horton occupied the chair, and he was supported by Mr George Wareham (chairman of the club), Mr A. Clissett, Mr H. Chaise, Mr W. Fowler, &c. The following took part in the excellent musical programme provided :-Messrs Jimmy Shields (the one-legged- dancer and comedian), Arthur Roberts (violin soloist), Joe Williams, Jack Dainton, Tommy Waters (negro comedian), Bert Ringwall (the human bird), Tich Taylor (the sheeny-man), Dai Williams (Eos Llynvi), Harry Dobson (baritone), and George Woodward (Indian club swinger). Mr S. Ryan and Mr F. Ainsworth presided-at the piano.

DEPARTURE OF MR MORGAN.—A number of Mr R. Morgan's friends in Barry met on Wednesday evening last to bid him farewell and offer good wishes for his future. Mr R. N. Davies presided over the metting, which took the form of a fruit banquet and social. Songs were rendered by Messrs James Davies, John Collier, R, Morgan, R. N. Davies, and others, accompanied by Mr Thomas Roberts. During the proceedings Mr R. T. Evans presented Mr Morgan with a silver- mounted walking stick on behalf of the friends present, and wished him every success and God speed in his new sphere. Mr Morgan thanked the meeting for their gift and good wishes. A most enjoyable meeting closed with singing Auld Lang Syne and God save the King."

DINAS POWIS. PARISH COUNCIL. Mr J. Isaac, deputy chairman, presided at the monthly meeting of St. Andrew's Parish Council held on Monday evening last at the National School, Dinas Powis,. the only other members present being Messrs H. Naldrett and H. Wright. The business was* very light, confined to the passing of accounts, that for the supply Coronation mugs being deferred pending the delivery of an additional hundred, the quantity obtained being insufficient to supply the whole of the children of the parish with one each.

WENVOE. DISTINGUISHED SCHOLASTIC CAREER.— Amongst the successful candidates at the recent degree examinations of the University of Wales, we are pleased to notice Miss Caroline Jenner, of Wenvoe Rectory, who has now obtained the B.A. degree. Miss Jenner was educated at Howell's School, Llandaff, where she gained the certificate of the Oxford and Cambridge Schools Board examination. She subsequently won a Queen's scholarship, and entered the training department of the Cardiff College. In 1900 Miss Jenner obtained a first class certificate from the Board of Education.
HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. The members in attendance at the monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee of the Barry District Council on Thursday, the 3rd instant, were Dr Treharne, J.P. (chairman), Mr J. A. Hughes, Dr P. J. O'Donnell, and Dr G. Neale, J.P. Miss Aldred, the superintendent nurse, submitted her monthly report, which showed that the number of cases remaining in the hospital was 4, admitted during June 5, discharged convalescent 2, relieved 2, remaining in hospital 5. It was decided to hold religious services at the Accident Hospital as could be arranged with the ministers of the gospel in the town and it was also resolved to write to the Rev H. H. Stewart, rector of Barry, asking him to arrange for holding Church services thereat.
PUBLIC HEALTH COMMITTEE.
PUBLIC HEALTH COMMITTEE. The Heath Committee of the District Council held their monthly meeting the same afternoon, present-Dr P. J. O'Donnell (chairman), Mr J. A. Hughes, Dr E. Treharne, and Mr W. Paterson. It was reported that 140 house drains had been tested during the past month, 90 of which were found defective.—The Committee decided that the matter be referred to the Public Works Committee to ascertain what was being done in other towns. -The Chairman said he had been informed that the Council were powerless to interfere with private drains. The report of the Town Sanitary Inspector showed that the town was in a satisfactory state of health, there being now only five infected houses in the district. Six library books and seven houses were disinfected during the month. A quantity of decayed bananas had been seized and destroyed. Mr R. Evans, the general manager of the Barry Railway Company, reported that he had enquired into the question of the dredger discharging its cargo within a mile of the centre of Whitmore Bay entrance, and was of opinion that the Council's report was not accurate. — This month's report of the Beach Inspector showed that there was not so much mud on the bay.-The Committee felt that the attention of Mr R. Forrest should be drawn to the matter. A report was presented by the Surveyor on the question of permanent allotments at Beggar's Well, and the Committee decided to recommend the Council to acquire six-and-a-half acres of land for the purpose. The Committee agreed that no pig-sties should be allowed on the allotment grounds.. Since the bathing-houses had been opened it was reported that the sum of A 5 3s Id had been collected by way of fees, and at the cloak-room 98 17s 5d. The tender of Mr A. H. Bletso, Holton-road, at £15 17s Id, was accepted for painting work and that of Mr Evan Davies at 7s 4d a ton for lime. When the Committee came to consider the question of erecting seats, Mr Paterson suggested that one be put on the top of the steps on the footpath leading to Porthkerry Park, but he was informed that the Council only had three feet of land for this purpose. It was resolved that the bathing-houses be closed on Sundays, and that the cloak-room be opened from 2 to 9 p.m. on Sundays. The tender of Mr A. J. Duchemin, at £ 4 17s 6d, was accepted for a quantity of grass.
FINANCE COMMITTEE.
FINANCE COMMITTEE. At the monthly meeting of the Finance Com- mittee of the District Council held on Friday afternoon last, Mr J. A. Hughes, presided. Mr James Jones and Mr J. Milward were also present. It was reported that the amount spent in con- nection with the Coronation festivities, including sports, bonfire, and children's treat, was j6262. The question cropped up of a number of men signing the wages book with a cross instead of writing their names in full, and the Surveyor was instructed to ascertain how many men in his department were illiterate. A report was presented showing that the amount due to the treasurer was £14,188, but that the Council were just about completing certain loans which would meet his deficiency. An abatement in the rent of the house occupied by Mr Edward Rees, in Holton-road, was made of A 5 per annum. The Committee resolved that all accounts against the Council should be in hand in future by the 7th of each month.
