ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT.-At a special sitting of the Barry Police Court on Tuesday last, a seaman named Alfred White was charged with indecently exposing himself to Margaret Barrett, aged six years, living on the Moors, Cadoxton, in a field off the Cardiff-road, and he was remanded to the Penarth Court on the following day. CALFARIA ANNIVERSARY.—The Welsh Baptist Church of Calfaria, Court-road, Cadoxton, held their cyfarfodydd blynyddol on Sunday and Monday last, the preachers on the occasion being the Revs Cornelius Griffiths, Cardiff, and T. Idwal Jones, Porth, both of whom delivered deeply impressive and eloquent sermons to large congre- gations. Collections were made during the services in aid of the building fund. WESLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY.— The anniversary services in connection with the Wesleyan Sunday School, Cadoxton, were held on Sunday last at the Theatre Royal, which was well filled throughout the day. The preacher in the morning and evening was the Rev T. Miller, Cardiff and Mr H. Wallis. Dinas Powis, presided at the children's service in the afternoon. On Monday evening a public meeting was held, Alderman J. C. Meggitt, J.P., in the chair, and addresses were delivered by the Rev J. Jenkin (Penarth), Rev J. H. Watson, and others. The anniversary proved a great success throughout, the singing by the children being particularly effective. The offertory at each gathering was in aid of the Sunday school funds.

I ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. — At the Glamorgan Quarter Sessions on Tuesday last, Ivor Mordecai (35), clerk, surrendered to bail in answer to a charge of having attempted to commit suicide on March 13th at Barry Docks. It will be remembered that defendant shot himself with a revolver. In answer to the Chairman, defendant said he could give no reason for the rash act. He was in illhealth owing to loss of employment. He was bound over to come up for judgment within six months. ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT.—Michael Fidder, 25 a coloured seaman, was charged at the Quarter Sessions on Wednesday last with unlawfully and indecently assaulting Catherine Russell, of Cogan, a married woman at Barrry Docks, on May 17th.- In his defence Fidder said that he had met this woman, and that she. asked him for a shilling, at the same time making an improper suggestion, and it was in consequence of that suggestion they were in the lane together.—The jury found the prisoner not guilty, and he was discharged. Bernard Reece, the district coroner, conducted an inquiry into the circumstances attending the death of Jesse Lloyd, aged 15 months, son of Harry Lloyd, stevedore, 1, Beryl-road, Barry Docks. The father stated that the child, who had for a week been suffering from measles, died suddenly on Saturday evening, Mary Ann Lloyd the mother, said she attended the baby herself during his illness. On Saturday the child got well enough to get up. She occassionally gave the child a little port wine. A few months ago the child suffered from fits.- Dr Bray was of opinion that the ehild died from convulsions, and the jury returned a verdict according to the medical testimony. BOILERMAKERS' OUTING.—On Saturday last the Mutual Improvement Association connected with the Foremen Boilermakers and Iron and Steel Shipbuilders of Cardiff, Newport, and Barry spent an enjoyable afternoon at Barry. Preparations had been made by the Barry members, and Mr J. Williams, Barry, the president, with the local members, met the party at Barry Docks, and con- veyed them on a tour of inspection. The Barry Company's Offices having been viewed, the electric launch of the Barry Graving Dock Company was placed at the disposal of the party by Mr Munro, the manager, and a trip was taken round both docks, Mr H. Collier, one of the veteran members, acting as guide, the various places of interest affording considerable interest and delight to the party. Subsequently they visited Barry Island, and refreshments were subsequently partaken of. A drive to Pcrthkerry followed, the company returning on foot by means of the path near the cliff.

WORKMEN'S OUTING.— The annual outing of the Barry Railway Company's locomotive workmen took place on Saturday last, when a large number of workmen and their wives and friends journeyed by special train to to Llantwit Major, starting from Barry at 10 a.m., and leaving Llantwit Major for the return journey at 8.30 p.m. An enjoyable day was spent, and the Cogan Military Band played selections of music during the day. Sports were held in the afternoon, and an excellent programme of bicycle and foot races was gone through in an efficient manner.

COGAN. MAN DROWNED.—About midnight on Friday last Henry Purse, employed on the dredger at Penarth Dock, was drowned under somewhat mysterious circumstances. The dredger was being towed out to sea by the tug Primrose, when one of the crew of the latter heard cries. Immediately the tug was put about and a search made, but nothing was then discovered. Subsequently Purse was missed, and up to noon on Wednesday his body had not been recovered, and it is concluded that he was drowned. Purse lived at 18, Dock-street, Cogan, and leaves a widow and several children.

PENARTH. WOUNDING.—Alexander Johansen, 19, sailor, stood indicted at the Glamorgan Quarter Sessions on Wednesday last for unlawfully and maliciously wounding Per Wallfield Hagman by stabbing him in the arm with a knife at Penarth on May 21. The stab was the result of a brawl which started by the prisoner conducting himself offensively. Some blows were exchanged, and prisoner took out his knife and made a lunge. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, and prisoner was sentenced to two months' hard labour. THE PENARTH INTIMIDATION CASE.-William Jones, an able seaman, who was sentenced to seven years' penal servitude in the famous Penarth intimidation case, and whose sentence was, through the effects of Mr J. Havelock Wilson, ML P., subsequently reduced to four years, was released on Wednesday last from Pentonville Prison. Jones was met by Mr Havelock Wilson, M.P., and Mr Leslie Johnson, editor of Seafaring," and is now being well looked after by the Sailors and Firemen's Union. Jones will visit the principal ports and j address meetings on his prison experiences. He looks remarkably well, though much thinner. EXCITING INCIDENT.-On Thursday last the seven-year-old daughter of Mr Evan Hughes, miner, residing at Rickards-street, Pontypridd, had a narrow escape from drowning at Penarth. It appears that the parents of the child had taken her to the annual outing of the Sardis (Pontypridd) Band of Hope, and just below the landing-stage for the Penarth boats the little girl slipped into the sea, and was washed away by a wave. A man who was standing by immediately divested himself of hat and coat and jumped to the little one's help, and, assisted by the father, he soon succeeded in getting her to land. Miss Hughes was provided with a change of clothing at a neighbouring hotel, and left for Pontypridd at once. A reporter subsequently learned that the man who jumped into the tide and saved the little girl was Mr Edwin Hawkins, 21, South-street, Ynyshir. Mr Hawkins is the conductor of the Church choir at Ynyshir, and with a number of the choir members was spending the day at Penarth. Comments were made during the day that a number of people at Penarth had declined him a change of his wet clothing, and on being questioned, Mr Hawkins said it was two hours after the event that he found anyone who was considerate enough to give him the desired change.

LLANTWIT MAJOR. UNITED SOCIETY OF C.E.—On Wednesday last a public tea was held in the Wesleyan Schoolroom, Llantwit Major, in connection with the above society, when the lady members presided at the tables and a large number attended the tea. In the evening a public meeting, under the auspices of the National C.E. Union of Wales, was held in the Wesleyan Chapel, when the Rev A. J. Jenkins, Newport, Mon. Mr Andrew Laurence, Cardiff and Mr J. H. Edwards, Barry, attended as a deputation, and delivered stirring addresses to a large enthusiastic audience.

BARRY SHOP ASSISTANTS' ANNUAL OUTING. The Barry branch of the Shop Assistants' Union held their annual outing on Wednesday last, when a party, numbering about 60, visited Southern. down, being conveyed to and fro in brakes provided by Messrs John Jones and Sons, Holton-road, Barry Docks, the drive each way being very delightful. On the arrival of the party at Southerndown, they proceeded to the Dunraven Hotel, where an excellent lunch had been provided. During the afternoon the beautiful grounds of Dunraven Castle, and other places of interest in the neigh- bourhood. were inspected, and after tea games, &c., were indulged In. The return journey was entered upon shortly after seven, and Barry was reached about 11.30, every one having thoroughly enjoyed the day's outing. The secretarial arrangements were carried out in an excellent manner by Mr T. E, Dunn.

BARRY POLICE COURT. rl THURSDAY. Before Mr J. Duncan and Dr E. Treharue. A WATCHING BRIEF. At the opening of the court, Miss Gertrude Jenner, the Typicca, informed the Bench that she was present to watch the proceedings that day. LICENSING APPLICATIONS. An application for the transfer of the license of the Red Lion Inn, Bonvilstone, from Mrs Ann Gibbons to Mr Edwin Deere, of the Park Hotel, Barry, was adjourned for Mrs Gibbon to appear to consent to the transfer. The Bench on the same ground adjourned a like application with refer- ence to the Park Hotel. WAGES CASE. The case of Herbert Randell v. Joseph Lippiet, master painter, for non-payment of wages under an order of the Court was adjourned till Monday. Mr A. Jackson, solicitor, appeared for the plaintiff. MISCELLANEOUS CASES. For using lightless vehicles on the highway, Benjamin Goes and Herbert Pritchard were fined 2s 6d each. A penalty of Is each was imposed upon Albert Wheeler, Barry, and Alfred Richards, Cadoxton, for throwing stones on the highway. Allan Richards, for allowing two horses to stray on the highway, was mulct in 2s 6d. Mary Jane Jenkins, The Dimlands, Llantwit Major, was fined 7s 6d for driving without lights at Bonvilstone. A FIGHTING fRIO. Elizabeth Hellings, Annie Evans, and William Powell were charged by P.C. Chilcott with causing an obstruction by fighting in Beryl-road, Barry Docks. The constable said the two women were fighting with Powell. Powell was dismissed, and the women cautioned. WHOSE IS THE DOG? Elizabeth Rose, George-street, Barry Docks, was charged with keeping a dog without a license. Defendant stated the dog did not belong to her, but to the chief mate of the s.s. St. Mongo. P.C. Evans, however, stated the animal had been about defendant's premises for over two years.-Case dismissed. SENT TO PRISON. Edward Holloran, plasterer, was sent to prison for 14 days with hard labour for being drunk and disorderly and using obscene language on the highway. THE SCALE OF INEBRIETY. James Tobin was fined 5s for being drunk and disorderly. William Sandford, Evan Jones, Alfred Olsen, Robert Duncan, and Samuel Gaskells were ordered to pay 7s 6d each and James Tremworth, 10s. THEFT OF A ROSE. For stealing a rose, Percy Cross, aged 10 years, was fined a shilling, the offence being committed in the garden of Abraham Morgan, Court-road, Barry Docks. MUST GO TO AN INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL. Rebecca, the truant daughter of John Morgan, Barry Docks, was sent to an industrial school till she is sixteen years of age, for irregular attendance at school. FOOTBALL ON THE HIGHWAY. John Fowler was fined Is for playing football in Thompson-street, Barry Docks.

REPRESENTATION OF THE RHONDDA. "MABON" TO BE OPPOSED. MR. LOVAT FRASER, OF BARRY, THE UNIONIST CANDIDATE. The deputation appointed by the Rhondda Conservative Association to wait upon Mr J. A. Lovat Fraser, M.A., barrister-at-law, of Barry, met that gentleman on Friday last at Cardiff, and formally invited him to champion their cause, and to contest the Rhondda seat against Mabon at the forthcoming general election.—Mr Jason Thomas (secretary of the association), in fitting terms, conveyed the invitation of his association, and Mr Fraser, in accepting, said the contest would have the effect of keeping Mabon from other constituencies, and also of keeping him (" Mabon ) up to the mark.
