CADOXTON-BARRY POLICE COURT. THURSDAY.—Before Mr O. H. Jones (chairman), Major-General Lee, and Colonel Guthrie. ILLEGALLY SHIPPING AT BARRY DOCK.—Peter Cairns, Edward Forrest, and Dennis Fahay, three able-bodied sailors, were brought up in custody charged with illegally shipping on board the ss. Elsa at Barry Dock. Mr Vachell (Ingledew, Ince, and Vachell, Cardiff), appeared to prosecute for the Board of Trade, and Mr J. H. Jones, Cardiff, defended.- Fiued 5s each and costs. A NON-APPEARING DEFENDANT.—John White, Cadoxton, was summoned for selling beer without a license. Defendant did not appear (his second non- appearance in connection with the same offence), and Mr W. Lloyd Meyrick, solicitor, Cardiff, on behalf of the prosecution, applied thatdefendant's recognizances be estreated.—An order to this effect was, after con- sultation, adjourned until the next court. ABBEAHS OF RATES.—David Rees, White Farm, Merthyr Dovan C. J. Thomas, Bairy and Charles Denning, Porthkerry-road, Barry, were summoned for non-payment of arrears of rates, and the necessary orders was made. The last-named defendant said he would appeal to "an higher court if it cost him £ 500 Mr D. Howell, assistant overseer of Merthyr Dovan, prosecuted. A CADOXTON WAGES CASE.—James Kerr, builder, Moxon-street, Cadoxton, was summoned by Henry Lee, a boy labourer, for the sum of 18s 10d wages due. An order for 9s 6d was made with costs. BREAKING A HEDGE AT THE BARRY FOOTBALL GROUND.—Albert Clarke and George Barker, youths, were charged by Frederick Beck, with damaging a thorn hedge belonging to the Barry Football Club. Beck said the boys were very offensive and insolent, and broke through the hedge, doing damage to the ex- tent of Is 6d.—W. Murphy (captain of the club) cor- roborated.—Fined 6d each, with a caution. ALLEGED MILK ADULTERATION.—Inspector Rees charged William Clacee, a milk vendor, of Penycoitre, Cadoxton, with selling milk which had been creamed. Mr W. Lloyd Meyrick, Cardiff, appeared for the prosecution, and Mr B. G. Davies, Cadoxton, de- fended. Inspector Rees said he purchased a pint of milk from an errand boy named Charles King, aged 15, employed by defendant, while the lad was vending milk in Holton-road, on the 11th ultimo. He divided it out in the usual way.—Superintendent Wake said the prosecution was conducted under the Food and Drugs Act, and submitted the analyst's certificate, which showed that the milk contained 40 per cent, adulteration. It also contained borax.—Mr B. G. Davies contended that the milk was quite pure. He had sent the bottle given to the lad by Inspector Rees to Mr T. Hughes, the borough analyst, Cardiff, who now swore that the milk contained no evidence what- ever of extraction of cream. To his mind the milk in question did not fall below the average quality of pure milk.—There being a difference of opinion between the two analysts whose certificates had been submitted, the Bench gave defendant the benefit of a doubt, and dismissed the case, but with a caution. SHEBEENING AT CADOXTON-BARRY.—Robert Smith, Commercial-road, Cadoxton-Barry, was charged with selling beer without a license on Sunday, the 27th ultimo. The case was proved by P.C.'s David Roberts and Stephen Davies, and defendant was fined R5 and costs.John Pile, George Wilcox, and Thomas Walters, for being on the said premises for drinking purposes, were fined 5s each. JUVENILE THIEVES. — Charlotte Humphries and Elizabeth Watts, 8 and 10 years of age, of Castle- street, Barry, were charged by Harold Lindsay, shop assistant, with stealing chairs, pictures, and several other articles from an occupied house. Prosecutor did not wish to piess the charge.—Case dismissed with a caution. DRUNKENNESS.- Several cases of drunkenness were also disposed of.
