MR. FAWCETT is not letting the grass grow under his feet at the Post Office. He has already matured a plan by which the Post Office may do the work of a Penny Savings Bank. At present it does not receive sums under a shilling but by selling penny tokens in the shape of a stamp, which are to be attached to a slip of paper, poor persons can in this way lay up their savings, and so take care of the pence. The scheme is a laudable one but will it work ? The difficulty will be to induce the poor to bring in their pence and as for post- masters they are overworked already, and are then likely to kick over the traces altogether.
