In fact, the marvellous effects produced upon the mind and body of an Arab Sheik, who was impervious to all native medicines, when I administered to him five COCKLE'S PILLS will never fade from my memory and a friend of mine, who passed through the same district many months afterwards, informed me that my fame as a medicine man' had not died out, but that the marvellous cure was even then a theme of con- versation in the bazaar." Sea BURNABY'S RIDE TO KHIVA, Page 13. GOOD FAMILY MEDICINE CHEST A with a prudent use, has saved many a life, and yet we Ibinfc the idea might be improved upon, and reduced to a more simple form. Take some good compound, such as COCKLE'S ANTIBILIOUS PILLS, and we find that the desired end may be obtained with- out scales and weights, or little mysterious compartments or enchanted bottles, with crystal stoppers. Others might be used, but COCKLE'S PILLS as tested by many thousands of persons, and found to answer their purpose so well, may be set down as the best. —Observer. Tho Universal liemedyfor Bad Legs, Bad Breasts, Old Wounds, and Ulcerations of all kinds. THERE is no medicinal preparation which may be so Tthoroughly relied upon in the treatment of the above ailments as Holloway's Ointment. Rubbed upon the sur- face of the body, over, or near the affected parts, it disap- pears under the friction of the hand, penetrating at once to the source of the evil, and thus perform its healing errand, rapidly, safely and without pain. In all long standing cases, Holloway's Pills should also be taken, as they purify the Blood and expel all depraved humours from the system. COUGHS, COLDS, SORE THROATS, AND BRONCHITIS. This Ointment is irresistible in the cure of these throat and pectoral complaints, which when neglected often end in settled asthma or consumption. The Ointment well rubbed upon the chest and back, night and morning, pene- trates the skin, and thus absorbed, is carried directly to the lungs, where, in immediate contact with the whole mass of circulating blood, it neutralizes or expels all im- purities. By these means all pulmonary complaints may be cured with rapidity and ease. DISORDERS OF THE KIDNEYS, STONE AND GRAVEL. In any of the above complaints more benefit may be de- rived in twenty-four hours, by adopting the following simple means, than could be brought about in six months by any other treatment. In bad cases, if the Ointment be diligently rubbed into the small of the back, over the re- gion of the kidneys, it will quickly penetrate and give im- mediate relief. Six or eight of the Pills should be taken nightly according to circumstances. GOUT, RHEUMATISM. AND STIFF JOINTS. This invaluable Ointment exercises a more obvious con- trol over Gout and Rheumatism, than any other medicine. No one need remain uncured, who will in good earnest make a vigorous application of this infallible remedy- according to the Printed Instructions affixed to each Pot. All settled aches and pains will likewise be banished by the same treatment. SKIN DISEASES, SCROFULA, AND SCURVY. The beneficial effects of this peerless Ointment are truly wonderful in cases of Ringworm, Scurvy, and Scrofula, or King's Evil, and its powers are adequate to the removal of the most inveterate Skin Disease to which the human frame is subject. Both the Ointment and Pills should be used in the fol- lowing c.mpaints;- Bad Legs Bad Breasts Burns Bunions Chilblains Chapped Hands Contracted and Stiff Joints Corns (Soft) Fistulas Gout Glandular Swellings Lumbago Piles Rheumatism Sore Nipples Scalds Sore Throats Skin Diseases Scurvy Sore Heads Tumours Ulcers Wounds The Ointment and Pills are sold at Professor HOLLO- WAY'S Establishment, 5:33, Oxford-street, London also by nearly every respectable Vendor of Medicine throughout the Civilized World, in Boxes and Pots, at Is lid, 2s 9d, is 6d, lls, 22s, and 338 each. Trade Intelligence. -----…
Trade Intelligence. COAL AND IRON. n MIDDLESBOROUGH, Tuesday.—The market to-day was altogether disorganised, and prices were very wild. The bears were successful in beating down prices, and to-day No. 3 G.M.B. for prompt delivery was freely offered by merchants at 55s, but buyers would not give this at the close. The influence of the fall at Glasgow is now becoming apparent, and in the face thereof business is very unsettled. Makers' prices remain at the old figures, but they are merely nominal. Connal's warrant stores contain 103,220 tons. The quantity going into store is practically nil. The finished market is flatter, and those who want to sell must take 10s per ton less than the highest figures obtained. Ship plates to-day can be bought at C9, angles at 25 5s, and common bars at 28. WOLVERHAMPTON, Wednesday. Business this afternoon was disorganised by the election excitement. Men seemed incapable of giving themselves to solid trade negotiations, yet there was a well stocked mar- ket, nearly every commodity was in abundant supply. Speculators were offering against makers, who, how- ever, fairly held their own, though, in the majority of cases, they would have taken a little less money than last week. The description of iron strongest was Staffordshire all-mine pig, which was strong at £4 10s, I nor could best boiler plates be bought at under £11 per ton. Coal was slightly weaker.

Such a .wretched day's sport has never been witness- ed on the Gredington estate as on Thursday week, and it took from nine o'clock until after six to run thirteen courses and three undecideds. With different management the stake ought to have been run through by two o'clock, there being at one time no scarcity of hares. Five in one field were lost oking to the judge being badly horsed, and having to ride over a mile to get in the field. Owing to the scarcity of hares and bad season Mr Lonsdale limited the nominations to sixteen. Another year, probably, the usual entries will be allowed. As Mr Lonsdale does not allow the stake to be divided, there were two courses left to be run off on Friday. Mr Owen judged with satisfac- tion, and Luff slipped well. FREE SEATS IN HOLYHEAD CHURCH.—At the February Council of the Free and Open Church Association held at the offices, 33, Southampton- street, Strand, London, it was reported that an attempt was being made at Holyhead to obtain a faculty from the Bishop's Court (Bangor) to appro- priate nine pews in the Parish Church to the Hon. W. O. Stanley, of Penrhos. A number of parishioners had, however, addressed a memorial to the Court objecting to the proposal which had been favorably received by the Chancellor, Dr. Stephens, and it was hoped that his successor Dr. Jeune would be equally inclined to preserve the common rights of the whole body of the parishioners. ENGLISH CONGREGATIONALISM IN NORTH WALES. —A series of county conferences k to be held daily next week throughout North Wales in connection with the Congregational Union and addressed by the Rev. E. The conferences will be succeeded on the following Mon day and Tuesday by the Annual Assembly at Great George-street Chapel, Liverpool, when the Rev. J. Rees, of Swansea, a well-known authority on all matters affecting Nonconformity in Wales is expected to take part in the proceedings. RECKITT'S PARIS BLUE.—The marked superiority of this Laundry Blue over all others, and the quick appreciation of its merits by the Public has been attended by the usual result, viz.: a flood of imitations: the merits of the latter mainlv consists in the ingenuity exerted not simply in imitating the square shape, but making the general appearance of the wrappers resemble that of the erenuine article. The demand for cattle was slow on account of the high prices required. A very good demand for choice lots of sheep, and nearly all sold up. CORN, Tuesday.-At to-day's market, with a quiet feeling, a small attendance of buyers and a correspondingly restricted demand, whe-it suffered a slight depression i. value. Flour had a moderate consumptive request, at the currencies of Friday last. Oats Fine were strong, other kinds closed inactive, but without change. Oatmeal, upoi an average inquiry, realised full quotations. Egyptian beans did not attract much attention, but sold nevertheless at former rates. Canadian peas exhibited no material alteration. Malt and barley were held for late prices. Indian corn, although the business reported was not of an important character, being in small compass, commanded about previous figures. CATTLE, Monday.—The total imports of foreign stock nto London last week amounted to-8,625 head, while in the rSrnooP6lKlinS week of last year we received 16,0110; in 187S 5 i 1877, 20,5\18; in 1876, 20,750; and in 1X75, 11,645. At LI-VERPOOL t;7;J head of cattle and 445 sheep were received from America. The cattle trade was quiet in tone and without feature. Supplies were about the same as asual, and were sufficientifor the demand. The show of English beasts was only moderate. Quality and condition continued to have plenty of room for improvement. Busi- ness progressed very slon-jy. The extreme quotation for the best breeds did not exceed 5s IOd, 5s 8d being the general top figure, whilst second-rate stock was only sale- able on lower terms. From Norfolk and Suffolk we re- ceived about ?0, from the Mid?nd and Home counts HOO, from Scotland 22", and from Ireland 50 head. The foreign side of the market was more freely supplied. Aliout 122 American were offered, 270 Danish, and some Swedish and Spanish. The demand gen?ally ?as quiet, at barely late quotations. In the sheep pens there was a fair show. The trade was much about the same, at previous prices. The best Downs and half-breds made 6s 6d to 6s prices. Slb. Calves and pigs were quiet, and without much chanRe. At Deptford there were 250 beasts and about 9 000 Ameri- can sheep Inferior beasts, 4s to is 6d; second qualitv, 4s bo 5s prime large oxen, 5s 4d to 5s prime Scoss, r, M bo 5s 10d inferior sheep. 4s 6d to 5s Cd second quality, DS bd to Us prime coarse-woolled, 6s 6d to 6s kd prime iouthdown its 8d to 6s 10(1 large coarse calves, 5s 6d to Is prime small ditto, 6>1 to (is wd large hogs, 3s 6d to 4s ■ small porkers, 4s 2d to 4s lOd per lbs., sinking the offal. CORN, Momlay,-The arrivals of grain-laden vessels at ports of call during the past week have been small. The demand for wheat has been of a dragging character, buyers holding off in expectation of a better selection from the fleet now due; but, owing to the extreme firmness of holders. helped by the scanty arrivals, where sales have occurred, full prices have been paid. The few arrivals of maize were quickly sold, at 28s to 28s 3d. More disposi- tion has been shown on the part of American holders to otter wheat for shipment at gradually yielding values but buyers continue to evince extreme apathy, and very little business has been effected Australian has been pretty freely offered, at reasonable prices. Maize has met a most limited demand, at unaltered rates. The arrivals during the past week have been English wheat, 4,39ti quarters; foreign, 28,445 quarters. Export, 5,033 quarters. There was a very small supply of English wheat at market this morning, and the hest lots moved off slowly, at last Non- day s currencies but inferior parcels were difficult to set!. Of foreign the arrivals were on a very moderate scale, and with a large attendance of millers, a fair consumptive demand was experienced, at barely late rates. Country flour, 16,835 sacks foreign, 8,720 sacks and 2,6!)1 barrels. Both sacks and barrels were in limited request, but prices were not quotably lower. English barley, 1,160 quarters; Scotch, 1,055 quarters foreign, 5,343 quarters. No change was apparent in this trade, which ruled dull for both malt- ing and grinding sorts, at last week's currencies. Malt- English, 15,613 quarters Scotch, 679 quarters; export, 744 quarters. Business was quiet, but in the few sales made previous prices were repeated. Maize, 16,14"<qrs.; exports, 948 quarters. Previous quotations were fully maintained, owing to the scarcity of spot corn. but there was less disposition to buy to arrive. English oats, 7.1 quarters Scotch, 20 quarters foreign 54? quarter ex- ports, 57 quarters. Notwithstanding the )i:ht arri? from abroad, a quiet tone prevailed and sales were not practicable ?Miy advance on last Monday's prices. Eng- lish beans, 412 quarters foreign, 7 quarters. DuX and unaltered in value. ei YJI WOOL, Monday.—There is still a good home M.' ?reiga trade for Colonial wool, and at the sales n?v in protest purchases are made in about equal proportion f"r home use and export.
