Fairfield Classical and Commercial School^ Liverpool Princes's Park School, Liverpool; Mrs Wilson's Ladies' School, Wrexham; Miss Monies' Ladies' School, Great Crosby; and at several first-class Schools in Chester. Professor Georges-Schleinitz teaches on the method now adopted for several years past by the German, Swiss, and Russian Government Schools, and which has in these countries proved so highly successful with respect to its practical results. In France the same method has been recently introduced into all Public Schools by order of the Government. Principals of the Schools where Professor Georges- Schleinitz teaches in Lancashire, Cheshire, and Wales, and his numerous Private Pupils, acknowledge that this method has produced higher and more practical results than those generally arrived at by any other system. Children may begin at a very early age, deriv- ing substantial advantages from it; and as Professor Georges-Schleinitz applies his system to whatever text-books are; already in use, no further change in them is needed. PwMlahetf tqr HUGHES and PHEJWUH. Price, 5s or, Post Free direct from the Author, 58 3tL OPINIONS OF THE PRESS. The Building News (London), Deeember 11th, 1811. I HINTS ON HOUSE BUILDING is an attempt- -M and a fairly successful one, to supply a want fel4 by many about to build. The author has endeavoured so to place his professional experience at the service of all such to enable them to form an exact idea of the cost of their project, and to follow its execution with an intelligent interest. The illustrations are above the average 01,. -,be which usually accompany books of the kind, w. plans are given as well as per- spectives of each buf IC. Public Opinion (• 'on), January 1st, 1875. At first we thought i., 10k was to persuade every man to be his own bui. and then the proverb, "fools build and wise men buy" came into our mind to condemn it, but no such foolish thought is enter- tained by the author. The book is to teach those whoo care to learn how to form sufficiently accurate esti- mates of the cost of any projected building. "TOo count the cost" is most important, and here Mr Gum- mow s directions are in every way excellent. The volume is illustrated by three very fine lithographic designs, three photographic views, and two ground plans, all of which have been designed by Mr Gum- mow in the course of his professional career. The British Architect (Manchester), December 18th, 1874. It is a valuable work for young architects, and still more valuable for the use of clients who, being about to build, would first "count the cost." English Mechanic and World of Science (London), December 25th, 1874. The author of this book is an architect and sur veyor in considerable practice in Wrexham, and has here endeavoured to provide proprietors, occupiers of houses, and artisan builders" with those hints" on house building, which are so much needed by the classes named. The work is illustrated by litho- graphs and photographs of buildings erected by the author, including plans, so that the intending house builder is furnished with a guide which, by little at- t ntion, will help him to obtain what he wants, and to estimate its approximate cost. Wrexham Advertiser, December 26th, 1874. Mr J. R. Gummow has forwarded us a copy of his work, entitled "Hints on House Uuilding," to pro- prietors, occupiers of houses, and artisan builders. It is dedicated to T. T. Griffith, Esq. The title gives fair idea of the contents of the book; but, of course, only by a perusal can the clear and lucid manner, free from an undue parading of professional terms, be ascertained. The principal architectural journals speak well of the work, and" we thoroughly endorse their opinions. Wrexham Guardian, January 16th, 1875. "This is the title of a valuable little book compiled by Mr J. R. Gummow, a local architect of good standing. Ihe work does not pretend to educate the public to become their own architects, but offers in a concise and very readable form, much reliable infor- mation that will greatly enlighten these about to build. The book is well written and instructive, and one which we can strictly recommend to the public." SSa.
