CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE NORTH…
CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE NORTH WALES I LEAGUE. LLANDODNO SWOTS V. FLINt. I The above teamp met at Llandndno in the above league. Great interest was taken in this enoonnter as the two teatDB are makiDg a neck-and-neck race for the cbampiOBship. There was a splendid orowd present when the two trams stepped into the en- closure. The Swift3 were very hard handicapped in losing the services of the famous for warde, Arnold Jones and Nicholson, whilst Flint were strongly represented. Flint won the togs, and deoided to play with the wind in their backs. Fred Jones kioked off for the Swifts, but Singleton getting pos- session raoed away, but was robbed by Hersee, who returned. Flint continued to press bard a splen- did shot from the visitors' right tonobed the oross- bar and caused some excitement, but which, bow- ever, rolled over the net and out of danger. Flint were now pressing bard until Knight relieved, and Mills getting bold made a beautiful run up the field, hat not being sufficiently bacJced up his ran proved futile. The Swifts were now playing hard, and despite the wind, whioh was blowing a gale, they had quite as much of the game as Flint bad, and several timeB oamc very near scoring. A P;obar;¡fjt was Dot improved opou by Fred Jones, who bad not in the meantime given us anything like his true form. The game was hotly oontested until half-time, which arrived with a clean sheet. On resuming it was generally thought that the Swifts would win easily, the wind now being in their favour, but their display now was very poor, the game being tame. Tbey had, however, several good shots at the Flint goal, but the two Lloyds never failed to get rid of the ball, the game thus ending in a draw, no goals being scored. There's no doabt that if the Swifts bad kept up the pace they had beec doing in the first half they would have been returned the victors. Tbeyall seemed to have an idea that because tbey had the wind in their favour they would win easily, but Flint played determinedly, especially their defenoe, which no doubt saved them from defeat. Hill played well in goal, but he made one mistake which nearly cost the Swilts a goal. Hersee and Hoghes defended well; the latter missed his kioks several times, and requires a little more practice. Knight was the pick of the halves, and played a splendid game; he proved a stumbling block to tbe Flint for- wards. P. Mills and Owen did well in the front rank, and several times came very near scoring. For tbe visitors the two Lloyds, Bills, Singleton, and Bartley played well. Y Humphreys, Bangor, acted as referee, and gave satisfaction to both teams.
