IFor the -Ladies.
I For the Ladies. i New Girdles. I Qait. pretty girdles are those made by winding three strands of ribbon round j th £ waist twice, and then knott-ina; tho ) ends at one side or directly in front. I These ends must be long enough to reach I the hem of the gown ainiost. Tfao pret- tiest girdles are made of metallic ribbons richly embroidered in silks and beads, j or of large wood and crystal beads skil- I fully strung together on knotted silk cords, the ends decorated with handsome i and uncommon tassels. All the new I girdles are very long. ¡ FOR YOUR BERET. An idea for the girl who wants to make one of the fashionable berets is to make it in cloth or duvetyn to match your coat or scarf and then work circles of very large French knots round aDd round the beret, each row being in dif- I ferent colour. I I TO BE MADE AT HOME. For the girl who travels or for the bride going on her honeymoon a verv j useful and pretty present would be a i set of holders for medicine, scent, I and other toilet bottles. They prevent I such disasters ds breakages in trunk and suit-case. The holders are easy to make. a.nd all that is required for the tilsk is some corrugated cardboard-the kind that chemists use for packing—and some pretty chintz, cretonne, or casement cloth. This is how to make a holder. Cut a piece of cardboard Din. by 7in Cut two pieces of cretonne, one just half and inch larger all round, and the other piece 15Mn. by 7Jin. Place the cardboard between the two pieces of cretonne, leaving three inches to spare at each end of the larger pieee. Stitch the edg"s of the smaller piece of cretonne to thé larger piece, thus cover- ing the cardboard and securing it in its place. ,-)w f6 Xow fold over to the inside the spare I piece of. cretonne at one end, and stitch j it neatly down at the sides. This makes the pocket for the bottle to siin into. I Shape the other spare end of cretonne 1[ to form a flap and sew a ribbon to hÐ ¡ point. ( I Roll tlle holder round tl: Ja and tie up. The above measure; are for j a .medium sir.e medicine boll. but if » I. spt of half R' do?<en of these holders were made, it would be wise to vary the size md make some larger for hair wash bot- tles, etc., and some smaller for &?nt, I brilliantine. etc. A TRAVELLING CUSHION. I 1 ravelling cushions are a boon and I blessing. They can be made at home at a small cost in imitation leather, dark j sjjad< 3 of American cloth (not the shiny I make) or even in casement cloth. I Get an ordinary cushion or small pil- iow-—siz9 14in. by 17in. cut out cover ior it in the imitation leather, just as you would for an ordinary cushion, but on one side have two thicknesses for tiie material so as to form two bags when the three sides are stitchcd up. Into one bag slip the pillow and the other bag will form the necessary pocket for news- papers, parcels, and so forth. Stich up the top of the bag containing the pillow, remembering to sew in the ends of a nice firm handle made of th«» sarae material. Hem the raw edge at .the top of the ) newspaper pocket, and the cushion 's finished. -1 A travelling cushion makes a very popular Christmas, or wooding present. I THE VANITY HOLD-ALL- This is made just like a diminutive "housewife." j Take a quarter of a yard of satin ril)- bon or a strip of any material 4in. wilè and line it WltK thin flannel, leaYlIlg 2m. of the i-ibbon to spare at one end and lin. at the other. Turn up the 2in. of spare ribbon o.¡ the lining and stitch down at the sides so as to form a pocket. Fill this with a packet of invisible and a packet of ordi- nary hairpins. Stitch a circle of Ilin. wide ribbon into the centre of the holdall," and run a draw-string of strong thread through its inside edge. This will ferm a little round pocket to liolft powder and a tiny puff. ) Make a couple of loops of Half-inch white elastic each side of the powder packot and place in these a nail file, orange stick, and emery board, pbeket comb, and stick of lip Next comes the purse mirror held m place by two loops of the elastic. Run an assortment of safely pins ;4.,nd i ordinary and fancy pins into the spare j spaces on the flannel and you have everything necessary for a day's toilet! Shape the spare inch of ribbon at the top int-o a. tiny Sap, stitch a ribbon or elastic on to the pont. Fold up the holdall," tie it round with the ribbon, and the whole thing will slip into a pocket or purse bag!
