I For the Ladies. Designs and Patterns oj I Beautiful Dresses. BY MADAME GWENDOLEN HOPE. I Nobody will gainsay the fact that every- I thing in the realm of dress is appallingly derrl and just as certainly will everybody agree that never within recollection has dress been more beautiful or more artistic. If the long straight lines have for the moment given place to wider hips and panniers and drapery, the frocks are cut with such elegance and exactitude that all the best points of the wearer are accentu- ated and any defects concealed or mini- mised. Costume coats are graceful in the last degree; and the coat-wraps for chilly weather have a distinction never before achieved. liats and toques are more alluring than ever this winter. From the large picture to the tiny toque, there is a degree of artistry in their lines that makes for chic in any type of wearer. Line is everything. Trimming takes a secondary place.. Materials are rich in headgear as in dresses and costumes, and therein lies much of their charm. A USEFUL WRAP-COAT. r The useful and all-covering wrap-coat in I the illustration could be used for either I day or evening wear. The example pre- sented was made in velours cloth, but there is an infinite variety of materials amongst which to choose if something else is preferred. The feature of this gar- ment is the huge shawl collar, which can I he thrown right back ot wrapped cosily i round the neck. The fastening consists of a large self-button. The sleeves are I very roomy, and are finished by wide smartly-cut cuffs. For very cold weather or for travelling this wrap would be ideal. I A DAINTY JUMPER. I The reign of the jumper continues un- checked, and never was there a bodice I more graceful or more useful. Our artist gives p8 one here cut en the new straight 1 1In I It is made of fiamo-coloured crepe- I de-^mine—a lovely shade for wear on etull and dark days. It is trimme(I with closely-pleated frills of georgette that exactly match the crepo-de-chino in colour. A trio of these frills adorn the lower part, and a single One goes all round the neck, and trims the turn-back i cuffs of the elbow-length sleeves. I A DAINTY TURBAN. I Turban toques are in preat evidence for wear just now, and are the t.ning for days of uncertain weather that are frequently accompanied by wind. The one given here is the very newest shape, and is made of sapphire-blue panne vel- vet, being otherwise untrimmed. The only addition is the wide veil, which is very fine in texture, and has a border of large chenille spots. The veil, it will be noted, is thrown right over the bat. and falls low on the shoulders at the back.
