A NEW FIXTURE. I i
A NEW FIXTURE. I i All Whites to Play at Richmond. I (BY "PENDHAGON.") I -New ground will be broken hy the All Whites to-morrow, for Richmond did not, ¡ prior to this season, ngure in th.' Swan- sea list. They owe their inclusion primarily to the f.?ct tila; Albion are defunct, which rules out the annual tour in the South of England. Judged by Welsh (standards, lUcimiond are not in the lirst flight, but they have at any rate shown that they can ris;) to great occasions. The Swansea team left I for London this morning. Travelling by fche same train were the Swans, who have an engagement with Southend United. It is regrettable that both the Swansea teams will again be out of town, but there is some consolation in the know- ledge that next week things will be better, the Swans being at home to Norwich City and the All Whites at Bristol. The Rugby men have eix home matches in j succession during December. # THE SWANS' TASK. I To-morrow Swansea Town are due at Southend and, to put it plainly, there are oaitain misgivings to the outcome of the encounter. Up to the present Ports- mouth are the only side to defeat the Senders on their own enclosure, and on that occasion it was the odd goal in I three that did the trick. Luton and New- port were each accounted for by three c lear, goals, whilst Brentford succumbed by three goals to one. These figures tend I to show that Southend are a hard nut to crack on their own ground. Swansea I Town will field their strongest eleven, and whatever be the result they may be I relied upon to perform creditably. UNIVERSITIES AND SWANSEA I CLUB. A sub-committee of the Welsh" Rugby Union met representatives of the Aber- ystwyth, Lampeter, Carmarthen and Car- diff Universities football clubs at the Queen's .Hotel, Cardiff, on Thursday ¡ evening to discuss the possibility of ar- ranging fixture.. between a combined team from the colleges and Welsh leading clubs. It was decided to ask Cardiff to play the colleges on December 17th, and to make a similar request to Swansea for a game at Swansea, on the following day. The representatives o fthe colleges sub- sequently selected the following as their team:—Back, Hugh Jones .Cardiff and Llanelly; three-quarters, R. J. Griffiths (Aberystwyth), E. J. Thomas (Cardiff and Gowerton), R. A. Andrews (Carmar- then and Swansea), and G. Rees (Aberyst wyth); half-backs, W. Ih Allin (Cardiff and Neath) and Gwyn Lewis (Cardiff and «'armarthen): forwards. W. Lewis, D. Salter, Idris Jones (Aberystwyth), W. J I Jones (Carmarthen), G. G. Protherpe. C I G. Lewis, Bert Lloyd (Lampeter), and A M. Beith (Cardiff and Pontypridd). # S.W. AND MON. ASSOCIATION CUP I DRAWS. A meeting of the South Wales and j Monmouthshire Football Association wa" held at the Giand Hotel, Cardiff, 01' Thursday evening, Mr, George Willhuas j presiding. Arising out of the third round of, thp CUD Ties the following complaints were consideredPembroke Dock protested against the award of a goal in their match against Llanclly. It was the only score, and they alleged that the ball had not passed over the line. The referee awarded the goal, but it was contender1 j that the ball had struck the insido of the upright and rebounded into play- With a view to obtaining further evi- (lODee on the matter the case was da- ferred. The draw for the fourth round of the Senior Cup, to be played on or before January 24th, resulted as followr- Newport County v. Cardiff City Ton Pentre v. Barry. Newport Barbarians or Bargoed v Swansea. Mid-Rhondda v. Merthyr. Byes.—Abertillery, Cardiff Corinthians or A herd a re Amateurs or Cardiff \lbions. Mardy v. Llanellv or Pembroke Dock SWANSFA SCHOOLBOYS FOR rflo- RHONDDA. Swansea schoolboys rMt Mid-Khonclrln on Saturday, when a friendly game will be played at Touypandy. This will be the local lads' first inter-town abearance this season, and the side is purelv an ex- perimental one—a side which, by ° j way, is being very severely criticised in sonic quarters. However, personally I think (writes Dominie,"), that the lads wil lturn out to be a very formidable eleven. The team will be:—Shattock (National); Edgar Thomas (Danygralg) and Mainwaring (Gendros): Craig (cap- tain), Dvfatty). A. Hughes (Sketty) and Coker (Hun. See.); I/ewie (Industrial), Hyde (MansrMon), Furnival (Sketty), Haines (Industrial) and W. Davies (Mun. Reserves: Elton Williams (Terrace- road), and Young (Cwmbwrla). X VALLEY DERBY. The Pontardawo Rugby football team have a stiff encounter to-morrow, when they play their return match with Ystaly- fera, on the Ystalvfera ground. BRITONFERRY v. PONTARDULAIS. For their match with Pontardulais, at home ,on Saturday, Britonferry will, it is expected; field the same side as that which defeated Treorky on Saturday last, except that Arthur Edwards will again he among the forwards. IWTER-COLLEGE RUGBY. Owing to a slight outbreak of chicken- pox in Llandovery College, the annual Rugby football match between Llan- dovery College and Christ College, Bre- con, which had been arranged to take place on Saturday, has been postponed to a later date, which will be notified in due course. WATSON KNOCKED OUT. I There was a fine crowd present at the Holborn Stadium on Thursday mght to see tlteheontost between Tommy Noble and Tibby Watson. The men were matched to box twenty rounds at 9st. Noble, it will be remembered, was ban- tam weight champion of Great Britain I until Walter Ross defeated him at the "National Sporting Club last summer. Watson, a 6oldier in the Australian Army has recently jumped into prominence by reason of good victories over Langdon and Thrush. The contest was fought at a ter- rific pace, and at the end of the 10th round Noble had a clear lead on points. in the 18th the end came. The men were in Noble's corner, wh«n Watson tried a swing. He missed it, however, and as he went forward, leaving himself quite open Noble swung a fierce right to the jaw. The for6e of the blow coming against Watson as he met it, sent him down, where he was counted out, and Noble won. YESTERDAY'S FINALS. Welsh Cup.-lstRound. Mardy 2, Ton Pentre 1. I I feel bound to write and give another tip to the Welsh Union before it selects the two sides for their trial match at Neath on December 6th. The W.R.U. have looked upon the bigger clubs long enough, when far better men are to be had in smaller clubs. I feel sure that I the Neatii pack of forwards, after Satur- day's display at Swansea, are far ahead of the Swansea eight, and yet we have to ¡ seriously reckon with the Aberavon pack. Also, why on earth should teams like I Neath and Aberavon be entirely ignored, in the tips given in your contemporary F I fail to understand. Surely 15 players cl'osrn from these two clubs, viz.: D G. Tborra.s (back); W. Millet. Vernon ITi'l E B. Rees, J. Ring (three-quarters); Eddie Watkins and Stanley Williams (halves): Glyn Stephens, W. Perry, Jack Jones, W. Hopkins (Neath)..Tim Jones. W IToplcin?, T. Ponsford, R. Randall I (Avon), would account for the Islayielly backs and Swansea forwards all right. Let us have representative sides in the trial match, composed of players chosen by the W.R.U. on their merits, and no! simplv because they hail from Swansea Llanelly. Cardiff and Newport.
