iWELSH WIZARD. 1
WELSH WIZARD. 1 Ovation for Jimmy Wilde. Jimmy Wilde was given a rousing ovation at the Liverpool Stadium on Mon- day night previous to his departure for the States. He boxed an exhibition with Berney Nolan (Birkenhead) and Tommy Evans (Ellesmere Port). In his honour a full Welsh night was fixed, and many pro- minent Principality boxers fulfilled en- gagements. Jimmy Wilde stated that he would box no-decision bouts in the States up to ten rounds. He appeared exception- ally fit, his present poundage being 7st. lilbs. BEYNON DISQUALIFIED. I The chief event was a fifteen-round con: test between Gomer Perkins (Ferndale) and Bill Beynon (Port Talbot). Beynon had a shade the best of hot exchanges at short range at the initial meeting, but Perkins livened up in the second, and showed better judgment. Beynon was severely cautioned in the third visit, as he struck low, Mr. Gamble being very em- phatic in his warning. Perkins had to cover up in the fourth, defending against a hot attack to the body. Beynon oon- tmued hie aggrossive tactics with success, reddening Perkins's ribs, but the latter trickily escaped a swinging knock-out at- tempt. In the seventh Perkins reached Beynon's jaw, but the crowd were discon- tented with Perkins's showing. Before the eighth started the refewe called the air together, requesting them to give of their best, and the proceedings livened some- what, but the bout ended in the ninth most unsatisfactorily, as Beynon again infringed the rules, and was disqualified. TO OPPOSE LLANELLY. I The Cardiff team to meet Llaneily on Saturday will comprise the following:— R. Allison; Wick Powell, A rthllr Cornish, T. Afflcv, and C. Bryant (Dr. Wallace, re- serve); R. Pod and J. Coghlan (reserve, Pepperall); (from) Frnnk Gaocon (capt.), Willie Jenkins, Brookman, J. Birch, D. Callan, A. Dairymple, A. Prosser, W. Cor- nish. Crad Roes, and D. Miller (Penylan). MONDAY'S "FRIENDLY." I Mid-Rhondda, 4; Brighton & Hove, 1. I ABEFIAVONIS CHOSEN. I The Aberavon side to play at Ponty- pool will be selected from:—J. Davies; J. Ring, J. O. Davios, A. Waters, E. B. Rees, and Mitchell: Con Evans and W. J .Hopkins; W. Hopkins (capt.), T. Ponsford, Bob Randeli, Jim Jones, Geo. Wears, Dan Tobin, J. Atkinson, W. J. Thomas, P.O. Lloyd. and Arthur Davios (Cwmavon). A COLLAR BONE BROKEN. I While playing football on the Cwm- j amman Recreation Grounds on Satur- J day, AJun Williams, the former Amman United wing three-quarter, had the bad 1 hick to fracture his collar bone. HENDY BEAT PONTARDULAIS. i A large crowd watched this game at Hendy. From the spectacular point of viow the game was rather uninteresting, and the only score of the match was made by Rufus Morgan after a smart opening by Tom Morgan, who again turned out after his recent illness. The visitors lacked the services of their cap- tain and full-back, Joe Davies, and Llew J. Evans (Hendy) gave a much better display than his vis-a-vis. Speaking generally, however, Pohtardulais gave their best display this season, and it was gratifying to find Lewis and Down- tag a success at half-back. Thanks to the successful spoiling tactics of Arthur Davies, the home backs never got going. Evans, Davios and Williams of the for- wards did excellent work. A word of praise is due to Mr. Harry Morgan, the referee, who controlled the game admir- ably. Next Saturday Pontardawe U! visit Hendy, and if the homesters duco form they should again come cut on top. IS IT NECESSARY?. I Mr. A. T. Yeoumans sends me tee fol- lowin g :—Dear Pendragon,"—It is hard lines that just when sport is settling down to something like per-war condi- tions, and the crowds are beginfting to I enjoy their selected games, that the Swans ba i-e taken the unusual course of forbidding their supporters t-o attend tiaining matches just at a. time when Association football is taking a front placo in the affections of the public. We all have the greatest admiration for the directors, but surely this is far from a sporting action. Is it necessary? How can they expect to work harmoniously with the supporters? I think it is safe to prophesy that sportsmei)^ as I believe wj all are, will not obey these orders cheerfully. What harm do they do by attending a practice match of any game or sport that they are particularly in- terested in ?

WAR PENSIONS. I ———- -W ———- Neath Committee and Secre- tary's Salary. At a meeting of Neath and Britonferry War Pensions Committee on Monday, a i discussion again took place with refer- ence to the appointment of a new secre- tary, which appointment bad been made I at a salary of £ 250 per annum. The Committee expressed their great disappointment at the unwarrantable de- lay ot the Ministry in dealing with their estimate, and at the proposal submitted to them that the provisional appointment of secretary should be at £ 200. An in- spector of the Ministry attended the meeting, but, after hearing him and con- sidering the whole matter, the Com- mittee decided that until the estimate was approved they declined to administer the war pensions work. The Ministry was advised as to the position as far back as July 5tli last, when Mr. A. E. I. Curtis resigned the position, but until recently has taken no notice whatever of the situation.
