The mortal remains of the lato Mr. William Davies. of 4, Castleton-plaee, Mumbles, were laid to rest at tho Mumbles Cemetery on Monday afternoon. Tl)'' deceased had I)een in ill-health for a considerable poriod, but had bornê the same with Christian fortitude. Great sympathy is extended to his father and sisters in their bereavement. CARMARTHEN. Thomas Williams. Brynamlwg Farm, was at Carmarthen on Monday lined £10 for selling milk adulterated to the extent of 25 per cent. of added water. At Carmarthen on Monday, Wm. Evans, fruiterer, King-street, was fined S$., for selling a pound of apples for Is. instead of 9d. Defendant said he paid 9d. per lb. for the apples, which were mixed, big and small. r NEATH. Charged at Neath on Monday with steal- ing: a watoh and chain, Edward Hughes (10), of Jonah Court, said he took it from the house of a widow, where he went to collect eome rinds, and eold it to another boy for a cigarette.-Tlie Mayor (Mr. J. Roes) warned the boy, and fined his father 15a. Neath butchers held a successful social at the Mikado Cafe on Monday evening. After tea, matters relating to the trade were discussed, the speeches being inter- spersed with songs and recitations. PONTYBEREM. The annual Cymanfa Ganu of the In- dependents was held at Caeraalem Chapel, Pontyberem, on Sunclay. President: Mr. D. J. Thomas, M.E. (Seven Sisters); con- ductor: Mr. W. Dunn Williams (Car- marthen);, and organist, Mr. W. D. Griffith (Pontyberem). The singing throughout the day was of a very high order. The conductor more than onoe praised the singers for their purity of tone in soft singing; and the juvenile scetion ¡ for their sustained tone. I MORRISTON A spkihdid organ recital waa given at Soat Chapel, Morriston, on Sunday even- Ing. in aid of the soldiers and sailors, by Mr. D. E. Williams, organist of Nasineth. The sacred edifice was filled to its utmost capacity. Mr. Willi-ftnw provwl himself a fine organist. He has been trained at the Hoyal College, London, and is in great de- mand. The manipulation was great, and the pieces of a high standard. Songs were given by Miss Gwen Lewis (Ystradgyn- laisi, Miss R. Brazell, and Mr. D. R. Wil- liams (Morriston). Mr. A. R. Lewis was the chairman. LLANNON. I A meeting of the Llaunon Parish I branch of the Farmers' Union was held at the Llannon National School on Fri- day evening. The. chairman of the Union, Mr. John Richards, Gelliwernen, was un- able to be present owing to indisposition. Mr. Pugh (Llanerch Farm) presided in his absence, and he was afterwards ap- pointed vice-chairman. A deputation was appointed consisting of Mr. Pugh and Mr. Samuel (Pentwyn) to appear before the Carmarthenshire War Agricultural Committee to try and' get, a reduction in the quota to be ploughed in 1919. I SKEWEN. According to the financial statement just completed, the concert held a short time ago at the New Cinma, Skewen, promoted by the local butchers, in aid of the British Red Cross, resulted in the ex- cellent sum of £ 76 13s. 2d. towards the funds. The committee, whose officers were-. Mr. Hopkin Bowen (chairman), Mr. J. Elias Jon A3 (treasurer), and Mr. David J, Evans (secretary) merit the warmest congratulations, and especially the sec- retary, who worked so strenuously in or- ganising the concert. The meat and allied trades have more than reached their goal of X260,000 in aid of the Red Cross movement, a surplus fund being at pre- eent in progress. j LLANELLY. At the meeting of the Lianelly Harbour Trust on Monday, the chairman (Coun- cillor Dan Williams J P.), owing to ex- ceptional eircurnotances, tendered his re- signation as chairman, and proposed that Aid. I At the Ammanford Police Court on ¡ Monday eig-ht persons were summoned for trespass on the G. W.R. mountain branch line to Penygroes. They were detected on Armistice Day. A representative of the j company said it was with reluctance they took proceedings, but at this part con- siderable damage had been done to the signal wires and the fences. Defendants pointed out they were obliged to walk the line to go to work. and it was contended that an old public path ran where the railway track now was. In imposing costs—7s. eaeh-the Chairman (Mr. J. Lewis) said the defendants had their sym- pathy, as it was a matter of difficulty in the district. He suggested that the resi- dents should endeavour to make an ar- rangement with the railway company. At the court on Monday John Cottrell. Workmen's Rest, was fined 5s. 6d. for leaving his horse and cart unattended outside the College Inn, Derwydd. Luther Davies. the well known cycle dealer, of Garnant, the rear lamp of whose motor cycle went out of order, and who bad a sideslip near Llandilo which deprived the machine of the identification I. plat, came to grief at Llandebie en meet- I ing P.C. J. Higgins. He was summoned at the Ammanford Polko Court on Mon- ¡ day, when it was said that he had ridden for the last 15 years without any trouble of any kind before.
