PARLIAMENT. I THE MARCONI REPORT. TORY MEMBER MOVES MOTION OF REGRET." LARGE ATTENDANCE. (SpcciaJ to the Leader.) I HOT SE OF COMMONS, Wednesday. The Speaker took the chair at 2..15. In view of the Marconi debate, there wa.s a very large attendance oi mem- bers. New writs were ordered to be issued for elections at Leicester and Dm ei, in the room respectively of Mr. Cr:1w- shay-Williams (resigned) and Mr. Geo. Wviidham (deceased), M ydro-Aeropianes. I Mr. Middlemen a.sked the r'rxt )?r(i of the Admiralty whether the JN.avy would, by the opening of tho manoeuvres, possess 75 efficient hydro- and 75 pilots, prom].ied in March. I\Jx. Churchill said that owing to late ness in delivery of the machines by the manufacturers, an da few accidents, the number of machines possessed by the Navv would fall somewhat, short of anticipations. The number of pilots anticipated would he reached. Naval Oil Contracts. I Mr. Outhwaite u-sked whether the j First Lord could give an assurance that the method of allocating Admiralty contracts for oil fuel and similar re- j quirements provided adequate security against the possibility of favouritism. Mr. Churchill isaid the answer wa<s in the affirmative. In regard to all Ad- miralty contraet.s, the Admiralty sought the widest competition possible in the particular circumstances of each case, and were guided by a ntimlxu- of other consideration. than that of meeting the nand requirements, present and pro- spective, ua most advantageous terms financially and in every other respect. (Cheer.•>.) The American Beef Trusts. I Mr. Staniar a<sked the President of I the Boti-d of Trade whether he wou]d send out a special Commissioner to South Kmeiica to watch and rejwrt on the actions of beef tfusts, so as to safe- guard the beef supplies of this country. Mr. Buxton said this matter was re- ceiving the Government's attention, and information with regard to the develop- ments abroa.d was furnished them from time to time. He did not think any useful purpose would be served by adopting the course suggested by the hon. member The Seized Irish RInes. I ,Iti-, ( iike(i the the Government had any official infor- mation showing there was any connec- tion between tho British League for th csupport of Clstcr and the Union, and the rifles reeentl yseized in Belfast. Mr. Bin-ell: No, sir. Mr. Wedgwood: May I ask whether Lord Farnham, to whom the rifles were addressed, is the president of this League'? Mr. Birred I don't know whether ho is or not. Mr. Wedgwood Is the Irish Govern- ment going to make any inquiries oc the suuject r 'Mi* W. Moore (loudly) No. (Laugh- ter. ) ii,e ai?'ral;c ter.) They are afraid of their souls. Mr. Chancellor asked the Prime Minister whether his attention had been drawn to the existence of a society- formed under the title of the Briitsh League for the support of Ukter, and the Union, having headquarters in Byderlstreet, St. Ja.ine..s'; ii-nethei- the Government had any informsiton :i to the avowed objects of this society; whether he was aware that these objects included active preparation for the resistance by force of the Govern- ment of the Irish Bill: and whether the Government intended to indict foj conspiracy those responsible for the formation of the society. Mr. McKenna replied. He said his attention had been called to newspaper reports of the meetings referred to. He was advised there was not sufficient evidence upon which action could be taken. Mr. W. Moore: Hear, hearJ And never will be! (Ministerial luightcr and cheers.) The Speaker: I must ask vne hon. gentleman not to answer questions on behalf of Ministers! (Laughter.) Armed Police and Strike Riots. I Mr. McKenna, answering Mr. Wedg- wood, said there was no intention of teaching the police to use arms, and of issuing rifles and ball cartridges to them for the suppression of strike riote THE MARCONI DEBATE. I Mi1. Cave, who was received with Opposition cheers, moved That this House regrets the trans- actioJls of certain of His Majesty's Ministers in the shares of the Marconi Company of America, and the want of frankness displayed by Ministers in their communications on the subject to the House." The duty he had to perform, he said, was not altogether a pleasant one. (For further report see Next Edition.)

CUESTS OF THE MAYOR. I The Grand Theatre, Swansea, was this afternoon visited by a number ot petrous who are rarely seen within its waJJs. They were the guests of the Mayor of Swansea (Mr. David Wil- liams), and the management, and they were shown the wonderful moving pictures taken by Mr. Cherry Kearton, the famous naturalist, in East Africa, America, Borneo, and India. The little visitors included 81 children from the Deaf and Dumb In- stitute, 82 from the Cottage Homes, 30 from the Workhouse, and 42 cripples. THE RECATTA. THE RACE FOR THE PRINCE OF WALES'S PRIZE. I (Continued from Page 6). I The third and fourth races started together-—'that for yachts evceeding So tons, for prizes presented by the Right Hon. Sir Alfred Mond, Bart., P.C., M.P., and that for yachts over lo tons and not exceeding 35 tOilS, The race commenced; at 11.33. The Hyacinth (owned by Mr. Behenna, Swansea) and the Lady Beatrice (owned by Mr. AV. A. liichards) were entered for the first race, and the Zinita (Mr. D. Clayton), and the Eileen (Mr. A. Julian) started for the second nIce. The yachts got away from the mark iu the following order Hyacinth, Eileen, Lady Beatrice and Zinita. I For Trawlers, Probably one of the most interest- f ing races of the day was that for ketch- ngged trawlers, the lirst prize being presented by H.H.H. the Prince d Wales, and this induced five Brixham trawlers to cross the line, viz" Antelope Collie (J. H. Blackmail), B.M. 25, PnilY, Ethel Reindcer, and Drew B.M. 103. The trawlers worked their way in a cluster from the starting boat, and got away slowly in what little wind there was. During the afternoon the weather freshened somewhat, but at 2.30 it was decided that the races should be shortened, the 19-15 boats doing two rounds instead of three rounds, and all other boats one round. For the remaining races the boats started as follows: Handicap for yachts of -1 tons and not exceeding 15 tons (1) Dot, 10 minutes; (2) Tom, scratch; (3) Stork; (4) Carmeiine. With the yacht racing taking place same distance away, the foreshore sports formed a very important section of the regatta, by reason of their ac- cessability. The hon. secretary for these was Mr. Aubrey Smith, the ex- Swansea Rugby forward, In drafting the swimming programme, the com- mittee had secured the co-operation of the Swansea clubs. Events for ladies and gentlemen had been arranged, and the entries were very encouraging. The handicap was prepared by Mr. Dick- son, hon, handicapper to the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association. Mr. W. Doherty, the ex-Welsh champion, was billed for an exhibition of fancy and ornamental swimming, but this was not to take place until late, in the evening. The tide did not serve J for an early start, although it left several hours for the carrying out of the prograrrme of 29 events. • In addition to the swimming, there were boa-t races for the Navy men, and for racing crews. Comic events also j formed a feature. The officials were:—For the swim- ming races, handicapper, Mr R. J. It Dickson, of the W.A.S.A.; starter, 1\1" H. Cranage; water polo referee, Air. C. E. Jones; Judges, Messrs. C. A. Shaw, W. Doherty, C. E. Jones, S. H. Bettson, and A. Fischer; stewards, Messrs. Bert Packham, C. A. Bevan, A. E. Daniel, T. Quick, J. E. Rolls, and H. L. Marsdon, and Mrs. A". E. Dan-if,, H. 1,. -A l ai,? goal judges, Messrs. C. A. Shaw and W. Doherty. Rowing and other events.—Judge of open events, Mr. F. F. Meager; hon. secretary of shore events, Mr. Aubrey Smith; band steward, Mr. Davies; startei-s and umpires (rowing events), Messrs: H. H. Perry and A. Roderick; judges. Messrs. W. A. Baylies, H. Plant and Ernest Davies; stewards, Niessus. Itaydn Evans, W. Mitchell, L. H. Tooley, and H. E. Williams. The temperature fell considerably during the early afternoon, and the outlook from a swimmer's standpoint was therefore not so good as hitherto. There was unfortunately a delay 00- causo the tide had not risen sufficiently to permit of the programme being opened I at the time arranged. At 3 o'clock the attendance was fa- from I satisfactory, there being only about 250 people on the Promenade. The water was calm and the sky overcast, but there was no immediate likelihood of rain.
