HIGH PRICE OF MEAT. I CAUSE OF DECREASED REVENUE AT MARKET. The Markets and Slaughter-house Committee met at the Guildhall on Wednesday, Mr. David Davies presid- ing. The Superintendent reported that the receipts at the markets for the past five weeks ended May 3 were L680 13s. 2d., as compared with L695 Is. 8d. during the same period of last year, a decrease of £ 14 8s. 6d. The Chairman: Is that accounted for by the fact of the holidays. Superintendent: No, I do not think so, sir. The butcher's stalls are down, and endless revenue has coine froA ti-e general stores. The high price of meat has a lot to do with it. The receipts in connection with the slaughter-house for the five weeks coded May 3rd were tl53 18s. 2d., as against £180 -ITS. 2d. during the same period of last year, a decrease of £ 26 16s. There was a decrease in the slaughter- ing of all animals of 1,313 during the live weeks.

I TERRITORIAL CAMP. I LLANDILO COUNCIL PREPARES TO GIVE A WARM WELCOME. It was decided at the monthly meet- ing of the Llandilo Urban Council to levy a rate for the half-year of 2s. in the £ an increase of 6d. on the previous rate. In view of the approaching Yeomanry camp at Llandilo on May 22 it was de- cided to ask the inhabitants of the town and of Ffairfach to display bunt- ing in token of welcome; also that the clerk write to the commanding ,fficer of each regiment asking them to con- sent to their bands playing on some oonvenient days during the camp in Penlan Park. A committee was appointed to wait on General Sir Francis Lloyd on his visit to Carmarthen on the subject of inviting the Western Division Brigade of 1.5,000 men to camp at Llandilo next year. The council declined to take over the 'I station-road from the Great Western Railway Company, it being stated thati to do so would cost them £100 a year I for maintenance.

CENTRAL BOWLS BOARD.
CENTRAL BOWLS BOARD. THE ALLOCATION OF THE SWANSEA CAEEKS. PROPOSED EXTENSION OF RULES The u.suat monthly meeting bf the Central board was heiri at the Guildhall on. Wednesday e\eniug, when Mr. T. Dalling presided over a good representation or delegates from the various clubs. Mr. \Y. Lewis, the secretary, read a letter from Mr. Bliss in reply to a communication from the League ask- ing for information ass to the number or clubs allowed to play on one green. Mr. Bliss intimated that he used his discretion in the aflocating of the greens, and that there was ample room for another .club on the Victoria Green, and advised that the Commercial Travellers be al-owed to make this green their headquarters. The Com- mercial Travellers had given notice to amend the rule governing the number of clubs playing on one green. Mr. Munday, the secretary of the Commercial Travellers' Club pointed out that the Victoria Green, which they desired to make their home green, was not played upon to the 6ame extent as some of the rinkvs. One of the clubs on the same green was a Thursday club, and there would not be any great difficulty in the arrangement oi fix- tures, as had been t-hown by the facility with which they had arranged their games up to date The Governing Body. The Chairman pointed out that the body governing the game in Swansea was the Central Board, and that it was necessary that some restriction should he placed upon the clubs play- ing on the greens. Mr. Husbands pointed out that the Commercial Travellers would find great difficulty in getting a team together if they were forced to make Dyfatty Park their headquarters. If the Central Board maintained their present atti. tude on this question, the outcome would be that another organisation or league would spring out and wake things rather complicated in the future. Proposed Extension of Rules Mr. Harry Williams (St. Helen's) endorsed the statements of Mr. MUll- day regarding the lack of enthusiasm shown bv bowlers in the Victoria dis- trict, and said the Board should extend the rules as far as possible to make the green payable. Ultimately, however, the minute re- stricting the number of clubs to tbe Green was rescinded by eleven votes io ten, and the Commercial Travellers were accepted into the League The Medals. it was decided to ask the Parks Com. mjttee to interview the Swansea CounciJ to ask them to ajmin present. medals to the winners of the Mond Shield, and Messrs. T. Dalling, T. S. Hebdon, H, Williams and W. M. Lewis were elected to form the deputation. Mr. Dallino- pointed out that the Council should try to help on the gamr- as much a& possible as the greater tbt, interest in the ame, the more likolv they were to recoup themselves for the expenditure on the greens. The Cen tral Board decided that a rink tourny, ment should again be held on similar lines to previous years. Plea for Discretion. I Mir. Palmer asked that the Com- mittee dealing with the tournament, should be a tittl more discreet than I ast*N-(-ar. and give the various rinks concerned the opportunity of playing upon the -nearent green. It was de- cided that entries close on June 1st. County League Match. The secretary reported that the match with South Wales and Mon- mouthshire Bowling League will take place on Saturday, August 23 at Roath Park, Cardiff Every club will be in- vited to send in a list of four players, as first, second, third and skip, every player selected to pay his own expenses. The selection will be made by the Executive Council. The starting time for evening league matches for June was fixed at 6.15 p.m. The Llanelly Soccer eleven have had a very successful season in their first year as a Southern League Second Division club. It is expected that all the players of last season wiU turn out again next season. Gough, Martyn, and Norris have already signed on. As we stated yesterday, the only player as yet who has been placed on the transfer list, is Fuge. who has for the present gone to Bristol. No doubt the club will receive a few fresh signatures. The rumour that Bird will leave Llanelly for Everton is contradicted, and he will again assist the tpam next season. Pro- bably a few changes will he made in the club's management. We learn that Mr. A. W. Wheeler intende vacating his position as secretary THE INNER WORKINGS. Those acquainted with the inner workings of the club will perhaps best realise, the services Mr. Wheeler has rendered not only to the club, but in stimulating the interest in the Soccer code that now prevails in the town. The club will lose a valuable official by his retirement. Although the club have done wonderfully well in their fixtures; financially they have not done so well as could be wished, and they have experienced bad luck at times, inasmuch ae most of the important matches were played on wet days IMPROVEMENTS AT HALFWAY. Many improvements wilTTie made at Half- way during the summer. The bad patch on the side of the playing pitch nearest to the entrance will be re-Jaid. Next season the Tinplaters will again be all out for promo- tion, and it is hoped that every Soccer en- thusiast will rally round and support them. CRICKET AT RAVENHILL. The unpropitious climatic conditions pre- vented the practice game from being played on Saturday, much to the disappointment of those eager willow-wielders who had in- dulged in practice the previous week. The enthusiasm of past seasons is by no means lacking, and, weather permitting, there will he a good mutter on Saturday, when Pen- llergaer will be entertained. Last, season Ravenhill visited Sir John's ground, and re- turned victorious by a. few rune after a. most exciting finish. The return game was put off owing to the fatal accident which befel Mr. Harry Lewie, for many years Ravenhill's hon. secretary, and undoubtedly the best all-rounder iu the team. A few months later followed the death of Mr Tom Evans after a short indisposition. "Tommy" was at, one time a truly great bowler, and the terror of opposing batsmen. Both Harry and Tom will be sorely missed, and it. will be difhcult to get men to adequately replace them. Then, again, George Evans, the Swansea forward, and one of Raven- hill's best bowlers, is down with a damaged knee and a sprained ankle, so that Fenllcr- gaer will be faced by a no means strong side. Still the homesters should derive sufficient benefit from the fact that they will be on their own patch to enable them to just about win MULTUM IN PARVO. It was decided at the annual meeting of the Scottish Football Association held in Glasgow on Tuesday night, to approach the International Board with a view to secur- ing an alteration of the rules to render the "one back" game illegal. There have been two practice nets in use at St. Helen's during the last few days.

MA?E?S AT TABLE. i 0 —— —— IINTERESilNG DISCUSSION AT SWAN- I SEA SCHuuLS SUB-COMMITTHE. I FLOWERS AT MEALTIMES. The Provision of Meals and Medical Inspection of School Children Sub- committee met on Wednesday, Mr. Mil es presiding. The statement in respect of the ex- penditure for breakfasts and dinners supplied for the hye weeks ended the 2nd inst was submitted, which showed that the total was £ 'J35 Is. Id. Mr. Powlesland said he thought there should he a decrease in the number of children. The Clerk remarked that last week the avera.ge was higher than last month. The Chairman observed that they had to consider that there was an in- crease in the number of children at- tending school. I School Inspection. The Medical Officer reported that he with two inspectors of the Board ot Education had inspected some of the schools and other places including the open air school at Dyfatty which Dr. Ikel, one of the inspectors seemed to be highly pleased with; and the Clynic at Grove-place. A conference was held with the chairman of the Educa- tion Committee in the afternoon, and an examination of the official records. The Chairman said to him the two inspectors were satisfied with what they saw, but there were suggestions which might bring about improve- menta. I Teaching Manners. With reference to one point, Dr. Ikel was careful to observe that the object of the provision of meals ought not only to feed the children but also to be an object lesson in manners. Better clothes might be provided, and flowers might be placed on the table, and the children might be taught to say grace. Mrs. Hoberts remarked that at Hafod School there had been no cloth on the table when the children were having breakfast. The Chairman We have sanctioned that. Mr. Powlesland remarked that they would have to improve the buildings i and general appliances if they thought of carrying out those suggestions. It was all very well to put a plant on the table. "Do you have a plant on the tablet" he asked the chairman. The Chairman: Well, 1 like to have them there. Mr. Powlesland: You would like to. and so should 1. I do not think it would be better to say grace. Grace is sa id, I think, before they leave the school. Mr. Powlesland remarked that in some instances the parents might object. The Chairman said that grace was not of a denominational character. Mr. Powlesland: Who is to be re- sponsible for the manners at the table? —The caretaker. The Chairman: There is supposed to be a registrar and that registrar "js generally one of the teachers. Mr. Powlesland: The idea of the ban- quet I do not trouble about. A member: The Corporation can afford to do this. Mr. Powlesland: We can ask the Parks Committee to send a plant or two. Mrs. Roberts: The children might be able to do this. The Chairman: It would be better if they would. Compensating Teachers. The Medical Officer: You will not solve this matter until you get a teacher to attend at the-meals. You will not get a teacher unless you compensate tuem. I think some one should be there. The Chairman We ought to make some small allowance. We appreciate the efforts of the teachers in carrying out this thing, but at the same time they must not take advantage. There would be no difficulty in regard to re- muneration. The Clerk was instructed to get into touch with the head teachers for sug- gestions on the matter. I School Clynic. I The Chairman, proceeding, said he thought it was clear that the com- mittee's ultimate aim was to as early as possible have suitable permanent offices for the school clynic pur- poses, without, of course, breaking faith with those already agreed with. While the were working under the pre- sent condition 's they must have the other aim in view, Mr. Powlesiand: You refer to the clynic in Grove-place. Chairman: Yes. The offices we have taken on are temporary. Mr. Powlesiand said they were not getting a great deal of service from it. He thought that the examination of children for minor work should be car- ried on there. There was continual friction between the Hospital and the education authorities. The Chairman pointed out that the National Memorial Association were leaving the premises in Grove-place on the ground that there should be no con- nection between the tuberculosis patients and the children when they went there for examination. Arrangements had been made for fur-1 nishing. and they were expecting every moment to receive sanction from the Board to proceed with the scheme. It was decided to proceed with the scheme without the formal sanction of the Board of the Board, and also to treat all cases on its merits, those who were in good positions to pay for treatment
