IN THE WORLD OF SPORT. Miscellaneous Sport. The Ciydach Visit of Glyn- Neath. Football Under Both Codes.—Britonferry Cricket Outlook. I YESTERDAY'S RESULTS. Association. Villa. 1, Sunderland 1. Plymouth Argyle 2, Queen's Park R. 0. Crystal Palace 2, Watford 1. Portsmouth 3, Cardiff City 1. Ton Peuu-e 6, Pontypridd i. Mardy 4, Treharria 2. Chatham 3. Devonpori. 0. Rucby. Maeeteg 27pte, Glamorgan Polioe 3pta. At St. Helen's on Saturday two Cup matches were again decided, the first being the final ot the third division be- tween Dunvajit and Waunarlwydd, which was won by the former team by a converted goal and a try to one try. The second, the ssemi-final in the second division between Gowerton Seconds and Cwmtwrch, Gowerton won by one con- verted goal and two tries to nil. The Gowerton and Cwmtwrch sides had met on two occasion^, and fought two drawn games. Gowerton Seconds will now meet Glais in the final. The first game between Dunvant and Waunarlwydd was fought at a hot pace, but with no undue expressiolbs of feeling, though at the close of the game, before the players left the tield, an unseemly sight was witnessed. A Waunarlwydd player "shaped up" to one of the Dunvant men, but the scene there ended. Waun- arlwydd in the first half had the advan- tage of a strong breeze, and aided by this they kept the Dunvantites in then- own territory, though Gear scored an unconverted try, with the game about ten minutes old. Before the interval, however, it was apparent that on the change of ends the result would not be in doubt. RUSHES WHICH GAINED GROUND. I The Dunvant eight were in splendid form, and worked well throughout, giving out the leather splendidly, while their rushes on several occasions gairred much ground for the side. Conspicuous among them were the Brothers .baylisy, Tom Williams and Frazer; Glyn John and Jeffreys were good behind the pack, the latter especially giving a good ac- count of himself. Dan Gill and Edgar John were the pick of the throes, while James played very well. John, at full- hack, was weak on several occasions. Waunarlwydd were not without chances to score, several of which were weakly followed up. They were, however, mainly beaten in the scrums, and their back divi-sion was not equal to that of the winners. In the game between Gowerton Seconds and Cwmtwrch, which was keenly contested throughout, the former had the advantage terri- torily before the interval, and with the change of ends it was difficult to say how the final would go. Gowerton, however, settled down splendidly in the second half, and had the advantage of their opponents. There were served well at forward, and on one occasion when Cwmtwrch was pressing, they came away grandly with the leather at their feet. The back division invariably made good use of the leather, and in securing their last try the spectators were treated to a nice bout of inter- pas-sing. As is usual in Cup matches, each team had its band of supporters, who in no small way mado themselves heard throughout the encounters. t VISITORS TO HALF-WAY. Newport County were the visitors to Halfway on Tuesday, where they were defeated by Elaneliy in a Welsh League niter by two goals to nil. The homesters did most of the. attacking, ,.nd bad they made use of the many op- portunities that came their way they would have won by a greater margin than two goals. Both sides took matters somewhat easily in the initial haif of the game, which could not be termed a fast one. The homesters were leading at tile, bv a goal, and this ore is a fair indication of their sup-i eriority up to the interval. In the' second hall, however, they with greater vigour, but were only able to increase their lead by a goal. Both goals word; scored by Freeman. The first goal was1 obtained through Freeman making the finishing touch to a movement in which j Osborne and Fuge participated, hy sen- diug the ball into the corner of the net. The second was scored in the second half. FUGE S BAD LUCK. Fuge, who was having hard luck throughout in his shots at goal, sent in a shot that hit the cross-bar and on j its rebound Freeman 6ucceoded in send- ing it into the net. In the initial half the visitors came very near equalising on more than one ocasion. Whilst they were on the attack Bowdier severeiv tested Bailiff who cleared by cieverely fisting the ball out of danger. A glorious chance of scoring an equaliser fell to Fyfe. A mis-kick by Bracher gave him possession of the ball, and although oniy a yard or two from the goal he failed to beat Bailiff. As pre- viously mentioned the homesters also were given many opportunities oi scor- ing that were not turned to advantage. As in recent games, their play lacked finish and their shooting was too erratic and in fact inaccurate shooting accounts for thøir low score. The de- fenoe lines of both sides were always called upon. WEAK BACK PLAY. I Bracher, the home right back, put in some good defensive work. The home halves were weak and were very un- reliable. The forwards did not seem to combine well, but throughout the game, they gave the opposing backs an anxious time. After Freeman had scored his second goal the visitors appealed to the referee (Mr. C. Xeale, Bristol") to dis- allow the score ,contending that Free- man was offside, but their protests were made unavaiiingly. Both Husbands the visiting goalie and Bailiff gave ex- cellent displays. WIN FOR GLYN-NEATH. I Glyn-neath were the visitors to Clydach on Saturdy afternoon last, and, despite the quite indiflerent team ueM-jd by the Swansea Valley club owing to an eleventh hour arrange- ment to play the fixture, a hard and keen game resulted in a win for the visitors by a goal (from a mark) to nil. Owing to some misunderstanding re- garding the fixture, Clydach were under the impression during the week that they had no match on Saturday, with the result that several of the home club's best players, blissfully ignorant of Glyn-neath's proposed visit, were absent from the district. The first intimation received by Clydach of Glyn-neath's decision to make the journey was conveyed to them by wire late on Friday evening, with the result that the Valleyites were caught totally unprepared for the match. They had to commandeer any player found available on Saturday, and field the quite indifferent lot thus collected together at the last moment. Under the circ umstances, it could only be expected that Glyn-neath would have the better of the general play, hut it was soon made evident that they did not have things ail their own way. and had to play for all their worth j to snatch a victory. Clydach gave ot their host, and camo very near to wip- ing off the difference, In fact, some doubt still exists in the minds of the spectators as to whether or not Ciydach did not actually score through Leo- pold. However indiffere-ntly consti- tuted, Ciydach were not by any means disgraced, and it is highly probable that had the homesters been able to field their usual full team. Glyn-neath would have been sent home a defeated side. Glyn-neath put in a very late ap- pearance, with the result that the teams did not field until within a few minutes of $ pan. BRITONFERRY CRICKET. There &s every prospect of some good cricket being seen at Br itonferry during the coming season and some splendid fixtures are to take place both with the Premier team and also the Steel- workers. A fixture, however, which is again missing from the cards is that between the two home clubs, the Ferry and the Steefworkers. It is a pity that this little breach cannot be healed as matches between the teams should prove a big draw and also pleasant games. Tomlinson will again be the pro for the Ferny, while the Steel- workers have made a bokl step and have engaged in addition to Arundale, who has done such god work in the past, Webb, the old Hampshire and Ply- mouth Merthyr prayer. The pitches of both teams have been well looked after between the seasons and doctored with marl and they should be in good con- dition. The Swansea Seconds are absent from the Ferry list this year and also Barrv, the new fixtures being Cow- br-d?e and Maesteg. The ezlwcrl,-s have a match with the Swansea Firsts on May 3rd and they also have all the old fixtur, and also home and home with Maesteg. All the old players will be available for both clubs and one or two new players will also turn out. Mr. J. M. Bevan, late of ilanelly, has I signified his 'intention of turning out I for the Steelworkers. MULT TIM IN PARVO. I W. H. Home, who created the world's record golf drivo of 388 yards at Noyth Berwick in 1909. has been displaying extra- ordinary form of late on the Jjittlestoue-oji- Sea course, where has has jut returned a II 68. which ties with David Herd's record for the green. Horace Henshall, the forward Nottingham Forest obtained from Aston Villa in Novem- ber. and who recently underwent a serious operation, is making good progress, but it will be some weeks before he is able to leave the Nottingham Hoepital. Several Swansea cricketers have been out practising during the last few days. The St. Helen's ground has been re-turfed at one or two pointe, and later on a. big effort will be made to oope with the flooding. Dodger Owen and S. Jerram, the Swan. sea halves, have both intimated that they will not become professionals. The former, who wa6 regarded as being fa-vourably im- pressed towards the offer made by the I' Leods Club, has since given it out that he prefers amateur football. The Bridgend Rupby ground has been im- proved greatly since last season. A lone- felt want has been supplied by the creation ot ? large grand stand. At Ebbw Vale on Monday ni&ht it was de- cided by 143 votes to 61 to go in for Northern Union Rugby in preference to Association. At the annual meeting of the Felinfoel Cricket Club the folowing officials have been a ppointed Captain, Mr. T. M. Phil- lips; vice-captain, Mr. David Griffiths; trea- surer, Mr. D. J. Saunders; hon. secretary, Mr. T. M. Phillips, Tnyswen House. The first cricket match of the season in connection with the Britonferry Steel Worke Cricket Club takes place on Satur- day, when Mansel, Port Talbot, will be met at home. The Steelworkers will be strongly represented, and will turn out as foilows:- W. Thomas (capt J. K. Cooper, E. Thomas, J. Richards, T. "Lloyd. G. Jenkins, A. Edwards, K. J. Beer, R- Williams. TERRITORIAL UNITS. I
TERRITORIAL UNITS. I CARMARTHEN ASSOCIATION ADOPTS I RESLLUTlüiiS. I A meeting of the Carmarthenshire Territorial Forces Association was held at Carmarthen on Wednesday, Lieut.- General Sir James Hiils-Johnes, V.C., G.C.B., presiding. It'was decided to adopt and strongly support certain resolutions passed by the Council of the Territorial Associa- tion, viz.;— 1. That every Territorial who makes himself ancient by the )lst October and comp)ctes the full ufteen days iu camp should receive a fully stamped insurance card for the following year. 2. That the shortage of oilicers is most serious, and although we do not suggest any specific remedies we hope the Army Council will be able to see their way to provide some means which will render the service in the forces a great deal more attractive than it is at present. 3. Many counties seem to think that it is beyond their power to compieio all the units assigned to them, while others have little dotibt that they could raise more men. It is thought the distribution ot thp forces should be re- considered, regard being had to the fact that in rural counties there is a good deal of ground, which, from its re- moteness, is of little use for recruit- ing, and also to the fact that different I counties find different numbers of men for the Fleet, Regular Army, and Special Reserve. 4. Very few counties are satisfied with the number of sergeant instruc- tors allowod them. It was reported that SillCO the above recommendations were passed, the War Office had agreed to increase the outfit allowance for officers of the Territorial Forces gazetted after the I 1st April from £ 20 to £ 40. The Association decided to apply to the War Office for powers to increase its membership in oidcr to include more employers of la bour on the Association. It was reported that considerable damage bad been done, apparently wil- ful, to the range at Llanelly. The Association decided to appoint a range warden at Llanelly, and also at Llan- dilo. Mr. Daniel Williams, Box House, Llanelly, and Captain Jenntngs, Geily- degj were co-opted meiobei-* of the Association in the place of Mr. Evan I Williams, Pontardulais, and Mr. G. E. Bowen, Kidwelly. Tho TerritorKd athlet;c champion- ships at Cardiff on the 28th inst. were discussed, and a 6ub-CDmmittce was appointed to investigate the claims of I any intending competitors, the Associa- I tion agreeing to pay competitors' fares. A sum of £ 6 was allocated to the officer commanding Liandilo Company to be expended upon getting men from Carmarthen and Llanclovery to attend the church parade at Llandilo on I Sondav next.
