OAS AND WATER METERS OF EVFRY:DESCRIPTION ALWAYS ON SALE. II 22 BY ROYAL LETTERS PATENT. MANUFACTURED BY D'ALMAINE & Co., LONDON. THOMPSON'S IMPROVED ORCHESTRA PIANOFORTE. OPINIONS OF THE PRESS: MR. FLETCHER BAKER'S CONCERT.—On Friday last, Mr Baker, formerly organist of St. Peter's Church Carmarthen, who is very popular here, gave a grand concert, previous to his departure for America. It was intended to have been a farewell concert, but subsequent to its announcement, he found that it would be necessary for him to remain in this country until the spring, and we shall have the pleasure of hearing him again before he leaves. He also played two brilliant solos on Mr Thompson's newly-patented pianoforte, in a way which did him infinite credit. The touch, manipulation, and expression were faultless. Everybody was surprised at the volume of sound produced from the small piccolo piano to which Mr Thompson's patent was adapted, and Mr Baker, in calling the attention of the audience to it said it was equal in power to two pianos, and must be regarded as a wonderful achievement, which the great instrument-makers in London would envy, more particularly, as the honour would be taken by a Carmarthen man. The invention consists of a simple mechanical contrivance, by which the performer can at will increase the power two fold. Pedals are arranged to communicate with the hammers, each of which is made to strike two strings or four, as re- quired, It is a most ingenious invention, which the great makers have long wished for, and which Mr Thompson after much thought and labour has discovered. There is no doubt of its success. It has been inspected by several eminent musicians, including Mr Bnnley Richards, who speak in the highest terms of it. The Welshman, Oct. 12, 1866. « Mr Baker gave a selection of Irish airs on a cottage pianoforte possessing all the powers of a grand. This instrument has been patented by Mr S. Thompson, Guildhall-square, Carmarthen. The invention is certainly an important one, and has been highly spoken of by the best musical authorities of the day.Tite Carmarthen Journal, Oct. 12,1866. I I Mr ThomDrSon of the firm of Thompson & Shackell, booksellers and stationers, of this town has recently patent? an impovement he has effected in cottage pianos. The invention has evoked the warmest express.ons Pfaninv^from no less a master than Mr Brinley Richards; and on Friday last, at the concert given by M r TBtlakkePr? that Lgenn tleman spoke in terms of unqualified approbation of it after testing one of Mr hompson s patent pianos which had been lent for the occasion, and upon which he played a number of Irish airs, accompanying =f also unon it in h5 splendid song of the 'Dath of Nelso?,' i I which the superiority of the instrument wS manifested in a marked degree. Mr Baker said that the improvement was truly wonderful, the cottage piano upon which he played being equal in power to a 8™ or two ordinary cottage pianos, and saId that the London builders would be glad to become possessed of the invention of a Carmarthen man who deserved a fortune ?tS improvement which he had ejected Mr Baker's little speech was received with a spotaneous burst of cheers from the audience, who, having heard the effect of the instrument, thua endorsed his state- ment.Tlte Carmarthen Weekly Reporter, Oct. 13, 1866. ITS SEARCHING AND HEALING PROPERTIES ARE KNOWN AND RECOGNISED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. The number of years this invaluable Ointment has stood the test of public opinion (and the longer known the better appreciated) is a testimony of itself more convincing than anything that could be written in praise of its truly wonder- ful healing properties. In the cure of bad legs, bad breasts, sores, wounds, and ulcers its effect is marvellous. For ring- worm, soald-head, scrofula, and diseases of the skin gene- rally, there is no remedy to be compared tc it. When assiduously rubbed upon the skin (previously woll bathed with warm water) this Ointment is quickly absorbed into the sysrem, and cleanses, in its passage, every part to which it is applied. GLANDULAR SWELLINGS, BRONCHITIS, MUMPS QUINSEY, SORE THROATS, AND DIPTHER1A, In any of the above diseases, immediate and permantn relief is obtained by effectually rubbing this detergent Oint- ment, twice a day. upon the neck, chest, and back. It acts upon the very mainsprings of life; for through the glands pass all new matter required for the body's reparation and all old particles detrimental to its preservation. The Oint- ment, used oonjointly with Holloway's Pills, will act so searchingly and certainly as to effect cures in the most hopeless oases. RHEUMATISM, LUMBAGO, CONTRACTED AND STIFF JOINTS. Many thousands of martyrs from the above complaint have found life almost insupportable; yet, if Holloway's Ointment be briskly and perseveringlyrubbed upon the parts affected, ease may be safely guaranteed, especially if the pores of the skin be previously opened by fomentations with warm water. The gross humours require expulsion from the system; it is therefore necessary to have recourse io Hol- loway's admirable Pills, which, by purifying and strengthen- ing the system, greatly assist the operation of the Ointment and facilitate and confirm the cure. BAD LE4s, BAD BREASES, AND ULCERATIONS OF ALL KINDS There is no medicinal preparation in the world which may be so thoroughly relied upon, in the treatment of the above ailments, as Holloway's Ointment.
