The Directors had also the pleasure of submitting to the Meeting various statistical details and calculations as to the expected and actual mortality of the last year, showing that in Scotland and England, also in Ireland, the results have been must favourable, the Company having made provision for a much larger number of deaths than have occurred,—thus illus- trating the advantage arising from dealing with a select class of bus iness only. T he Report then proceeded as follows :— From the extent of the Business in 1855, the Bonus year, it was notanticipated that the year 1856 would be so prosperous as it has proved; but the popularity of the Company has not flagged, and 1836 has shown results which must be highly satisfactory to all interested in the Institution. This popularity arises from vraious causes:—The prudent character ot the Management; the sound principles on whioh the Company's Atlarrs are periodi- cally investigated; and the large reserve of Profits. All these, no doubt, tend to secure to the STANDARD a more than ordinary share of preference but the DirectJrs claim also, without fear of usurping what is due to others, the merit of having intro- duced many liberal conditions into the Contract of Assurance, which have done much to give it increasel1 value and stability, and'which cannot fail to have added to the Company's well- earned fame. The extended license as to Foreign Residence and the indefeasibility of Policies admitted to the Select Class of Assurances, also the new Resolutions of last year as to the non forfeiture of Assurances, are all sufficient evidence in proof of this assertion." The CHAIRMAN then addressed the Meeting, and congratulated all interested in the Institution on the satisfactoty progress and state of the Company's affairs, illustrating his observations by the following facts:- The amount of Assurances accepted during the last ten years amounted to £ 4,787,301 18s. Id., contained in 8390 policies. The Sum added to the Company's Invested Funds during the same period has amounted to nearly One Million sterling while There has been paid to the representatives of deceased members the large sum of £655,66 :s. 9d. the Chairman, in conclusion, referred to the great satisfaction given by the result of the Fifth Division of Profits made last year, and expressed a ho;>e that at the next investigation in 18(50 large benefits would be available, as the lives on the Compau) 's books are a highly select class, as shown by the calculations submitted by the Manager,—as the rate of interest obtained on the Investments is considerably in excess of the rate founded on in the calculations,—and as the Company's expenses, which have attained their maximum, are yearly bearing a smaller per centage on the revenue, thus adding to the profit fund. The vacancies in the Board of Direction were then completed, and the BOARD of DIRECTORS were constituted as follows for the ei,suiiig year GOVERNOR. His Gmc the DCKE of BCCCI/ECCH and QUEENSBERRY. RAPID CURATIVE EFFECTS, AND CONSEQUENT ECONOMY. SELECT MEDICAL OPINIONS: DR. LETHEBY, Professor of Chemistry and Toxicology in the Medical Cullege of the London Hospital, Chemical lieferee to the Corporation of London, Medical Officer of Health to the City of London, £$c., c. I have frequently had occasion to analyze the Cod Liver Oil which is sold at your establishment-I mean that variety which is prepared for medicinal use in the Loffoden Isles, Norway, and sent into commerce with the sanction of Dr. de Jongh, of the Hague. In all cases I have found it possessing the same set of properties, among which the presence of cholaic compounds and of iodine in a state of organic combination are the most remarkable; in fact, the Oil corresponds in all its characters with that named I -U?,eiiie brune,' and described as the best variety in the masterly treatise of Dr. DE JONGH. It is, I believe, universally acknowledged that this description of Oil has great thera- peutical power; and, from my investigations, I have no doubt of its being a pure and unadulterated article." The "MEDICAL CIRCULAR." Much of the Pale Oil sold in the market is found to be nothing more than Skate Oil-a fact which will account for the failures which have occasionally attended the use of the so-called Cod Oil The utmost reliance may be placed upon the experimental researches of Dr. de Jongh, who is one of the most eminent of European chemists the Oil procured by him enjoys also the additional sanction of the opinion of Baron Liebig and the late Dr. Pereira in favour of its genuineness and efficacy. Our own experience practically confirms their judgment, and WE UNHESITATINGLY RECOM- MEND DR. The Patentee considers it necessary that every expedient should be adopted to secure the Public against imitations of the Triesemar. Sold in tin cases, divided into separate doses, as administered by Valpeau, Lalleman, Roux, Ricord, &c., &c. rriRIESEMAR, No. 1, is a Remedy for RELAXATION, X SPERMATORRHOEA, and all the distressing consequences arising from early abuse, indiscriminate excesses, or too long residence in hot climates. It has restored bodily and sexual strength and vigout to thousands of debilitated individuals, who are now in the enjoyment of health and the functions of manhood and whatever may be the cause of Disqualifica- tion for Marriage, they are effectually subdued by this wonderful discovery. TRIESEMAR, No. III. is the great Continental Remedy for Syphilis and Second- ary Symptoms. It searches out and purifiies the diseased humours from the blood, and cleanses the system from all deteriorating causes; it also constitutes a certain cure for Scurvy, Scrofula, and all Cutaneous Eruptions, removing and expelling in its course all corruptions and impu- rities from the vital stream, so as altogether to eradicate the virus of disease, and expel it with the insensible perspiration through the medium of the pores of the skin and is a never failing remedy for that class of disorders which, unfortunately, the English Physician treats with mercury, to the inevitable destruction of the patient's constitution, and which all the saisaparilla in the world cannot remove. Their almost marvellous powers must be felt to be believed. Hundred: ( apparently hopeless cases, which had been given up by the faculty, have been speedily cured, and many thousands have derived almost miraculous relief, when everything else had signally failed. The Guttae Vitae.are the result, of long practical investigation of the re-tiedies best adapted for these diseases, and in addition to the great test EXPKIIIENCE, they have received the sanction of many of the highest medical authorities throughout Europe, as entirely fcuperseding all those ques- tionable remedies which have too long been the sole reliance of the medical men of this country. These celebrated Pills are an infallible remedy in the most obstinate cases. By their use alone., many thousands have been annually restored to health, when every other medicine has failed. Their vast superiority over every thing else in the cure of the sibove complaints, is univer- sally acknowledged, and th. extraordinary demand for them ever since their first introduction is without prece- dent. In no instance have they ever been known to fail, or prod uce those dangerous symptoms so often resulting from copaiba, cubebs, turpentine, and other medicines usually resorted to. They require-neither confinement nor change of diet, and may justly be consider") the only really safe and efficacious remedy for all -tages those disorders for which they are recommended. By the introduction of the abovi, the Proprietor has no desire to superse.de his own personal usefulness, but there are doubtless many who from natural .,diiffdence, sense of shame, or fear of discovery, would hear their afflictions in silence rather than apply far aid, or unbosom their sorrows to those from whom .they may reasonably expect sympathy and relief. To such it is believed the above will be an acceptable boon, for besides their uniform efficacy, the sufferer can safely conduct his case without the knowledge of a second person, and thus cure himself speedily, pri- vately, and at the least possible expense.
