WI s K lr Tea Company, are held bv per.oHs the BntIsh Hong 011" I competent to pronounce an opinion upon them (From the London Mercantile Journal, January 23rd, THE BRITISH IIOXG KONG TEA COMPANY. At a recent consultation of the Directors of the British Hong Kong Tea Company, they resolved upon extending their business throughout the country upon a still more gigantic scale than they have yet done. The Company was established in 18-12 for the purpose of supplying the public with pure Teas of superior qualities, and in a form—from 2oz. to lib.—to suit the convenience of all classes of con- sumers. The Company soon attained a business of un- precedented magnitude through its agents in our provincial towns; but the continually increasing support of the public, and the great changes which have taken place of late years I in the distribution of our population have rendered the scale upon which the Company originally organised its agencies inadequate to meet the growing demands upon it. Most of our great seats of industry, trade, and commerce have become so expanded that the inhabitants at large can- not obtain supplies from a single Agent in each place with that facility which is required, and numerous towns all over 'tzid iitlillcl,()us tolvlzs qll over the Kingdom, which a dozen years ago held but an inconsideraule rank have from the enormous creation, and in many instances the diversion of our traffic by the rml way system, received such large emigrations of population, that the directors feel that such places ought no longer to remain without a local representation of the Company. The di- rectors have therefore come to a resolution of appointing 500 additional agents, so that there shall be one in every town possessing a moderate amount of population—the more populous villages being included in this class, and two, or three, in the larger cities and towns according to their ex- tent. Independent, moreover, of this extended ramification of their agencies, we are informed that they have made at- rangemunts with all the metropolitan railway companies for supplying Families in their several districts, as well as in Cities and Towns, direct from the Company's warehouses llJ London, and carriage-paid, which in point of economy, will be a considerable advantage to those who prefer having their orders executed in this way. If it were not a matter of even national importance that the public should be supplied with pure Teas of the best qualities, and at a moderate price, and that peculiar diffi- culties exist in the way of this object bting realised, we should perhaps not have noticed these endeavours of the British Hong Kong Tea Company to remove them. Tea is an article of more universal consumption than any other except bread it is at once a necessary of life to the; highet, and a luxury in which the humblest will indulge to the utmost of their means, and, moreover, it is inducive, or detrimental to the Health of all according to its qualities, j At the same time it is an article of which the public cannot judge accurately for themselves by the exercise of their own outward senses of sight, smell, and touch, and therefore they must rely upon, not only the honesty, but the judgment of those by whom they are supplied. The kinds of tea arc many, and not all even of the same kind have the same properties. It requires great experience and a very dis- criminating taste, to judge beforehand of the degree in which Tea will prove agreeable to the palate, and more especially to the stomach for one Tea may prove the most wholesome and delightful of tonics—strengthening the digestive organs, diffusing calm throughout the nervous system, clearing the intellect and exhilarating the whole frame—while another I may prove a noxious astringent, causing dyspepsia, irritable nervousness, dejection of the spirits, chronic headache, aud other disorders-and these different results shall be produced though each Tea shall be genuine of its sort. "Tea does not agree with me," is a frequent complaint, and we cannot wonder at it, when we consider that it is suppled by so many incompetent judges of the different properties of different kinds of Tea. But this is not the only branch of his pro- fessed business in which the know ledge of the ordinary retail Tea dealer is defective. How to mix different sorts together so as to produce a bnverage the most grateful to the I stomach as well as to the palate, is a still greater secret to him while by blending the finer sorts together an eminent physician has declared—though no ascetic himself, that a cup of Tea may be produced, equal as a stomachic tonic, to two glasses of the finest old Port Wine. For these reasons we wish the British Hong Kong Tea Company the utmost success in their new movement. It is a great undertaking, but we are satisfied that it is in hands fully equal to it of persons of gn at practical experience in the Tea trade, and whose long and high standing, is a gua- rantee that they will do justice to the public. TEA. All Teas are rejected by this Company which do not possess tonic virtues as well as great strength and agreeable flavour in a high degree. "b The following sorts are recommended. BLACK TEA. s. It is seldom that the rICh mountain Jlovoureil Coffees so much sought after in France, find their way into Country Towns or Villages, The Company pledge themselves to supply the public with those delicious Coffees which possess so much strength and richness of flavour. LA'MERT, M.D., 37, BEDFORD SQUARE, LOXDOS, Matriculated Member of the University of Edinburgh, Hono- rary Member of the London Hospital Medical Society, Licentiate of Apothecaries' Hall, London, &c., &c. The essential object of this treatise is to point out the fearful consequences resulting from certain habits, irregu- larities and excesses, which have produced more misery in Youth, degradation in Manhood, and premature decl-y at all stages of Life, than, perhaps, any other class er disease known to modern pathologists. Its perusal is particularly recommended to persons entertaining secret doubts of their physical condition, and who are conscious of having ha- zarded the health, happiness, and privileges to which every human being is entitled. It is absolutely necessary that all men should know that there are principles of personal management which cannot be violated without incurring grievous penalties, and when wisdom and regret succeed the heyday of inconsiderate self- indulgence, how these penalties may be mitigated, how the stiii;, of their bitterness may be removed, and how the evil and its consequences may be avoided, atid, above all, that there is scarcely any degree of physical infirmity or func- ¡ tional derangement to which the timely aid of science cannot apply a cure. Copy of a letter from 7Tr. David Simpson, of Collingham, dated it/i September, 1854. To Professor Holloway, Silt,—It is with great pleasure I have to inform YOU of a most wonderful cure of that dreadful malady, the Dropsy, cbected on my daughter by the use of your invaluable Pills. She had been under medical treatment lor a long time with- out deriving any benefit, although she was tapped twice, and fourteen pounds of water taken from her each time. After suffering very severelv for some time, she finally had recourse to your Tills, and in .our weeks was completely cured, after every other remedy failed to do her the siighestgood. I there- fore feel bound to make this statement public for the benefit of similar sufferers. I remain, Sir, yours obediently, (Signed) DAVID SIMPSON. WONDERFUL CURE OF ASTHMA. Copy of a Letter from Jlr. Joseph Wild, of lIyde, Cheshire dated the oth of August, 1654. To Professor Holloway, DEAR SIR,—Mrs. Newton, (a lady well known in this to,.i ii, residing in Hanover Street,) was afflicted for yeais with a severe attack of asthma difficulty of breathing, and a mast violent cough, ^causing severe pains in her side particularly whcne\er she took cold she tried many reme- dies, and consulted dilferent individuals, without deriving any benefit. At last she came to me, and I advised her to take your Pilis and use your Ointment,—after a few weeks by perseverance with your remedies, she was considerably better, and by continuing the same, in three months she wa» perfectly cured. I remain, Dear Sir, yours faithfully. (Signed) JOSEPH WILD. INDIGESTION AND BILLIO US NESS! EXTRAORDINARY CURE! Copy of a letter from .11ll". James Ilenshall, of Ashlon-under- Lyt i, date-7 the 2Sth June, 1854. To Professor Holloway, DEAR SIR,—I was lor a considerablepcriod afflicted with Indigestion, a I trnàed with frequent sickness, loss of appctitp, giddiness, headache, drowsiness, and dimness of sight, an oppression at the pit of the stomach, and the other attendant evils of a generally disorganised constitution. Although I tried a variety of reputed remedies I was not benefitted, and finally I became so bad that life «as almost insupportable to me. At this period I commenced using your Pills, and in gratiiude am bound to confess, that after a few doses I fell considerably better, and in six weeks was radically cured by this medicine alone, after every other remedy had failed to afford me the slightest relief. I remain, Dear Sir, yours faithfully, (Signed) JAMES IIENSHALL. MOST SURPRISING CURE OF A DISEASED LIVER OF FOURTEEN YEARS STANDING. Mrs. Dobson, of Dartford, was afflicted for fourteen years with a diseased liver and spitting of blood, and she was candidly told by every one who saw her that it was an utter impossibility that she could ever be cured. A year and a half ago, she became so much worse that she was obliged to be carried up and down stairs her friends then conveyed her to Guy's Hospital, but they refused to receive her ex- cept as an in-patient, and it was feared that it would be im- possible to relieve her bf her sufferings. Four months ago she resolved to have recourse to Holloway's Pills, and de- termined to give them a fair trial, she did so, and the result was, that in nine weeks she was perfectly cured by these remdeies alone, and is now able to walk as well as ever she was in her life. The truth of the above is well knonn at Dartford, and can be vouched for by several persons of respectability there. fltese celebrated Pills are wonderfully efifcacioxain the following conifjlaitits. \gue Dropsy Inflammation Sore Throats ??.?'?
