J-OHX CASSELI. finds it necessary to caution the Consumers of his justly-famed 'COFFEE against purchasing imitations of his Packages. The fact that his Establishment is the largest in the kingdom, and his COFFEE most extensively consumed, has led numerous panics to attempt making up very inferior articles in the same style of Package and some, to induce tradesmen to substitute their spurious article for that of JOHN CASSELL, offer a largei r.mount of profit. This has a tendency to prej udice the public, and hence thenccessitr of thus informing them that no Coffee can be the verita- ble JOnX CASSELL'S COFFEE unless his signature is upon each Package, Go therefore to the Agent for JOHN CASSELL'S COFFEE, ask for JOHN CAS- SELL'S COFFEE, and see that it is JOHN CASSELL'S COFFEE which is handed to you, having his Signature upon the Package. Evans, Vicar of the parish, caused the sum of f5 to be distributed among the poor of the village of Llandewi Brefi. PROMOTION.—The Reverend Richard Owen, Curate of St. Paul's, Liverpool, late of St. David's College, Lampeter, and of Brynmaen, in this county, has been promoted to the Incumbency of Yspytty Evan, in the diocese of St. Asaph. Patron William Hope, Esq., Overtron, near Liverpool. FATAL EFFECTS OF INTOXICATION.—A fearful in- stance of the results of intemperance occurred on Sa- turday last. It appears that Mr. John Evgus, of Velin Newydd, in the parish of Verwick, had been attending a sale by auction, in Cardigan, and having drank rather freely was proceeding home to his residence, a short distance from Cardigan, when in going up the Aber- avron road, by some means he fell into a streani of water, which was caused by the late heavy rains on the side of the road, and was drowned. When discovered by two women, life was quite extinct. A large sum of money was found in his pockets, and it is evident that no portion of his property is missin as enquiries have been made, and the property found on his person is proved to have been all he had in his possession a short time before his dpath. On Wednesday last, J. Phillips, Esq., of Newcastle the Coroner for the Lower Division of Troedyraur, held an Inquest composed of a respectab e jury, on the body, when evidence in proof of the state of extreme intoxication in which deceased was last seen alive, and of his being found dead in the ditch by the road side was given, and in the absence of any positive proof how the deceased callle by his death, the jury returned a verdict of Found drowned." CARDIGAN.-At a special petty sessions held at the White Hart Inn, before Win. Phillips, E sq.—Two young men, tramps, were-charged with having on the previous evening, iiialiciousli, broken several panes of glass at' Parkyprat, the residence of the Rev. Mr. George. It appeared from the evidence that the prisoners were extremely violent, and broke windows to the value of nearly thirty shillings. The fellows were convicted of the offence, and in default of paying the amount of damage and costs, were committed to Haverfordwest gaol for one calendar month each with 'hard labour.

Charles Stuart, have no- minated the Rev. D. Thomas, B.A. eldest son of John Thomas, Esq., of Cwmmawr, to the Rectory of Llan- maes, vacant by the death of the late Rev. R. Nicholl Carne, M.A. VALE OF NKATH BREWERY.- Vice Chancellor's Court, Thit)-sday.-( Before Sir J. L. Knight Bl"twe.)- Re the Vale of Neath Brewery Company, Ex Parte [Valters.)-Tliis was a motion on behalf of the official manager for the purpose of revising the decision of the Master, to whom a reference had been made under the Winding-up Act. whereby he had refused to include Mr. George Walters in the list of contributors in respect of 50 shares in the above Company. Mr. Walters was a banker at Bath, and had accounts with Mr. Buckland, the managing director of the Vale of Neath Brewery Company. The debt due from Buckland to Walters was £1500. In January, 1841, an arrangement had been made between them, with the concurrence of the other directors, that Mr. Walters should qualify himself as a director by having the shares in question transfer- red to him in the books. It was stated that Walters had credit given to him in the books of the Company for £1000, and Buckland was debited with it. It appeared that Mr. Walters had received jE27 10s. a part of the salary due to him as a director, bit that he had never attended and acted as such, and that there was no en- try in the Company's books of such payment. In Oct., 1841, Mr. Walters had re-transferred the shares. Mr. Russell and Mr. Terrell appeared in support of the mo- tion, which was opposed by Mr. Bacon and Mr. South- gate. His Honour was of opinion that the evidence es- tablished that Mr. Walters had at one time been a share- holder in the Company. It was possible that he might subsequently have ceased to be so, but this was not the qi.iestiou. He must therefore refer it back to the Master to review his report, which had proceeded upon the ground that Mr. Walters never had been a share- holder.
To THE EDITOR OF " THE WELSHMAN."…
To THE EDITOR OF THE WELSHMAN." TO THr EDITOIT 0 1 SIR,—The interest you take in matters relating to the public welfare, and the readiness you have evinced to expose abuses, will form, I hope, a sufficient apology for my calling, through the medium of your journal, the attention of the authorities of Carmarthen, to the injustice which. is inflicted upon the inhabitants (par- ticularly those of the poorer class) of the town, by the system allowed to prevail of permitting the hucksters, to forestall the market. I am so circumstanced that I can seldom go to market before 12 o'clock, at which hour I find nearly all the egl,s, poultry, &c., in the hands of the hucksters, who advance the price from 20 to 30 per cent., and I must either submit to this extortion, or go without the articles I require. In most towns the hucksters are not allowed to pur- chase of the farmers, and others, till 2 o'clock, and I see no reason why a similar rule should not be adopted here. Being a comparative stranger in Carmarthen, I am unable to say where the fault lies, but it is evident there is a defect in the local arrangements, which is the cause of great inconvenience, and ought to be rectified. This hint will, I trust, have the effect of inducing the proper parties to look to it. I am sir, yours truly, Carmarthen, 6th February, 1850. I Carmarthen, 6th February, 1850. EPSILON.
