MONEY. STOCKS, AND SHAKES. FKOM THK E.XCHANUI Ty.hKaRAPH rOMPKST LONDON, Tuesday. Money has been more usable to-da, but short loans are still eaay at 21 to 24, but fixtures ranire from 23 to 3 per cent., and advances into ,January 34 per cent. The India Council renewed a small amount until the 27th at 3 per cent. Paris cheque comes 25.314, Berlin 20.44J, Madrid sight 34., and Rio 7 29-32. The sum of £10,000 was withdrawn from the Bank of England for export to Lima. The Silver Market is steady, bars being un- altered for spot at 27 7-16 and for forward delivery 274. Bombay and Calcutta exchanges come is. 4d., Hong Kong 1s, 11 7-16d., and Shanghai 2s. 8d, Rupee Paper closed 62 to 62i. On the Stock Exchange attention was largely directed to the oarryling-ov-er. Brokers renewed their loans for the next fortnight at 4 I)e? cent., and oue new money was also bor- rowed at this rate, but some borrowers were fortunate enough to get their loans done at 3} per cent. Rates were very much the same !s at t:\MtR8e; ;lgI:O: I they were stiffer. Consols showed some dul- ness owing to the hardening of the Money Market, and several Colonial Issues are also easier. Home Rails moved irregularly, the market showing no decided tendency. In other respects the tone has been favourable, the feature being the buoyancy of American Rails, which were very strong during the early hours, but closed rather easier on realisations, though still marking a substantial gain upon the day. The firmness of the Continental Bourses has caused an upward tendency in Foreign Government Securities, and all the active stocks are higher. Mining Shares were also a good market, nearly all the lead- ing African Shares closing at an advanc.e,I Westraliaois were likewise firmer, though the closing was under the b&;t points.
