Robinson was leg b-tforn to Nichwls in the eighth over, aud after Llewelyn Imd put on a few he was smartly caught at alid-oll by the elder Palairet. Clark was soon cleaned bowled by Tyler, four wickets being down for a dozen runs. The next wicket did not add any- thing, and W. Morgan was secured by lko at long on with a skyer at, 18. H. E. Mor- gun, nffer knocking a puir of boundaries, was stumped, and the remaining wickets went down with disgusting rapidity, and the iunings closed after an hour and a quarter's play for 27, this total being, like the S'IIDO score iiiade by Warwick at Taunton, the lowest made against Somerset this season. At litilf past, one the Somerset team commenced batting, the brothers Palairet going in first, to the bowling of Robinaon and Samuel. After a quarter of an hour a play rain (ient ttieiii in and lunch was taken, the score standing at 15, L. C. H. having malte 13. Play was resumed at 2.40 in bright sunshine and with a larger atten- dance. Tho Palairets continued to play in splendid form, the elder brother making some long hits, while R. C. N. kept up the wicket. At 39 Roonpy displaced Robinson, and at 64 W. Morgan went on in place of Samuel. After the partnership had lasted fifty minutes L. C. H. stepped out to a ball from Morgan and had his bails taken. His score of 50 included five 4's, two 3's, and six 2's. One for 73. Fifteen minutes lator the younger Paliiret was caugiit at the wicket by Jones his long stay having produced 25. Then several other bowling changes were effected, Williams being iried, but when Fowler joined the Somerset captain runs came with great free- tioii), hoe ttittitig frequent boundaries, while Fowler also lut out at the loose bowling, and the total WHS brought up tu 191 before the two were sepirated. NOTTS. 0 Pleasant weather favoured the continuation of this match at Manchester on Friday, but the wicket was stul soft and difficult, Notts started batting at 11.45, but with only eight runB scored Briggs bowled both Shrewsbury and Gunn. After a three by Dixon, the Notts captain was caught at mid-oil from the secoud ball he received from Brings, and with the score still at eleven Watson dismissed Flowers. With Attewell and Butler together a heavy shower stopped play at a quarter past twelve. The rain ceased after about twenty minutes, and the game was resumed at twenty minutes to one, Brigge and Watson, of course, still bowling. Attewell played a capital game for hit side, but on the soft ground runs were. of course, hard to make. Rain again threatened. The partnership for the fifth wicket had produced 24 runs, when Butler was out leg before wicket. Before anyone could join Attewell another shower fell, and so heavy was the downpour that there seemed no protipect of further progress with the gains before lunch time. The rain ceased soon after half-past one, and at twenty minutes to two the players were in the field again, Daft being Attewell'a partner. The batamen playing freely, 50 went up at ten minutes to two, the conditions being far more favourable to the batsmen than before the rain. Play was resumed at a quarter to three. The sun was then shining, but the sky soon clouded over. Only two runs were added in fifteen minutes, and then a catch in the slips got rid of Attewell. Six for 54. Wright follewed. Notts' innings closed at 520 for 83 runs. Lancashire started their second innings with 35 runs to spare. When stumps were drawn their score was 20 for one wicket. Score:— LANCASHIRE. First Innings. ALLEGED CRIMINAL ASSAULT I AT NEATH. At Neath (County) Police-court on Friday (before Mr. John Henry Rowlund and Mr. Win, Leyshon) TnonntS Kendrick, a rollerinati, of Clyne, near Neath, was charged with committing an out- rage upon a little girl named Mary Anne Davies, thirteen vears and a half old, living with her father at Clyne. Mr. 8. T. Evans, M.P., Rppeared to prosecute, and Mr. W. Robinson Smith, of Swansea, defended the prisoner, who is a married tniin.-Prosecutrix stated that the prisoner assaulted her twice, and under such circum- stances that it was quite impossible for her to cry for help.-Di-. Davies said that he had examined the prosecutrix. In his opinion she would become a mother in about four months.- Mr. W. Robinson Smith dwelt upon the fact that the only corroboration of the girl's statement lay in her condition, and that did not prove the prisoner to be guilty. The girl had made no com. plaint at the time of the alleged "asult,Ulti. mately prisoner was committed for trial at the assises, bail being accepted.

THE GROWING reputation of Herefordshire bops t r delicacy of flavour, and the consequent increase in the acreage plsnted, is a matter of frequent comment in the trade papers, especially in view of the fact that the acreage of hep land in Kent is decreasing. The Brtuerf Journal tor November remarks that brewers are rapidly bay- ing up the whole of the growth of Worceaten." u the quality of which they find superior to even the finest Eaat Kents. The clean picking and excellent curing of Worcester bops have stood the planters in good stead." It is a curious anomaly that two-thirds of the so-called "WoMeetert" are grown in Herefordshire, the name of the latter county being never applied to hope in the trade. Messrs. CNAMjN WATKIIU and SON, of the Here- ford Brewery, have invariably purchased direct from local growers all hops used in brewing their speciality the Golden Sunlight Ale, and attribute not a little of its reputation to this and to the fact that the whole of their malt is made by themselves from home-grown barlr- 79795 To UVKKOOMS WXAXNMS.—Pepper's Quinine and Iron Tonic fires Now Life, Appetite, Health. (SWANSEA FOOTBALL CLUB. I ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the football section of the Swansea Cricket Club was held at the Assembly- rooms, St. Helen's-road, on Friday evening, Mr. James Livingstone presiding. There was a very large and enthusiastic attendance.—The Secretary (Mr. Bryant) at the outset said that in their fix- tures for next season the club would experience a considerable variation from the usual programme. They had hitherto gone to the North of England to find outside antagonists. This year they had sought the Midlands and West of England, and had fixed with such teams as Coventry, Old Edwardians, (iuv's Hospital, St. Thomas's Hos- pital (which was considered about the strongest of the London hospitals for the past two seasons), London Welsh (on Boxing Day, as usual), and Albion, Devonport (on the Monday following). The Devonport club had not been beaten the whole of last season. Then they had Exeter, and on Easter Monday they had fixed with Black- heath. (Loud applause.) As regards home matches, there would be four each with Cardiff and Nowport. He had fixed three with Llanelly, two being at Swansea and one at Llanelly. There would be a home-nnd-lmme match with Glouces- ter. The only other Welsh team they played was Penygraig, who visited Swansea to play a match. The committee had decided to admit the captains of the first and second fifteens on the executive comuiitteo. It had been decided to present gold medals to each of last year's first fifieen, and, as something had been said in other towns nbout the premiership, he wished it to be known that it was in recognition of their being the premier team in South Wales ta-t season. (Loud applause.) They would show what they thought, at any rate. (Laughter.) They would want several new players for the coming season, and ho wished to extend a general invitation to footballers to come down to the field duiing the next fortnight and practise.— The business of election was then proceeded with. — Mr. W. R. Evans proposed Mr. W. Bowen's re- election to the captaincy, and this was carried with a roof-raising cheor. Mr. J. Meredith was appointed vice-captain, if willing to play, other- wise ifie captain of the team to select, Mr. John Thomas was re-elected captain of the second fifteen and Air. Ludlow vice-captain. The committee was constituted as follows:- Non-playing members: Messrs. James Livingstone, W. II. Gwyn, E. Copus, George Bowen, and D. Morgau. Playing members Messrs. E. Bishop, A. A.
