T:¡ Company has been formed for the purpose of widening, levciiiiitf, and improving two narrow streets cal.ed Mill-street and Khonada-road, and a portion ot K.»theiine-street, in the Town ot Pontypridd, iiL the Countv ot GJ:\lllUrlIn, an(\ re-btiildiiig oil existing sites, or idling or letting sites to others for re-building, sub- stantial shops and residences. In order to effect this great and importallt public improvement the Company have applied to P,,rL,, ..Lnie,,t and obtained all Act for the acquisition of the necessary land and houses on eitiier side of the stfee's. the Town of Pontypridd is situate in the Coat District cf Glamorganshire, at. the IIHluth ol the Rhoudda Valleys, from which the largo Docksal Cardiff, Penartli. and Barry are supplied with the celebrated W/elsh Steam Coal. It it a maiket town of considerable com- mercial imp irt nice, containing a population oi about z0,000 inhabitants, and is the centre of an industrial district having within a radius of eiyht or nine miles a population of about 160,Cc.). It is in direct eomnini.ica/ ion with the important docks above mentioned, as v/ell as with all the principal towns in South Wales, by wealls llf the 1 dt Vale Railway, the Pontypridd, Caerphilly, and Newport Railwa'y, the Swansea and Khoruida Vall'.vs Junction Railway, the PontypridJ and Llantriaant Railway, the Great Western Railway, the Cow bridge ktailway, ntid the Cowbri ig»and Ab<|rthaw Railway. Forty years ago Ponlypridd was » mere village. It grew rapidly 4lter I860, when the C'lebrnled Steaui Coal Collieries began to be opened in tb.e Rhondda Valleys, and within the past ten years Jts growth has been greatly accelerated by the opery'.njj of new collieries within a mile or tw o of the town ;tsvif. .Niiii-i,tree,. which is 211 yarda in length, is most ftd- »anta>;eous.y situated in the tyost PAFL ot the tuwii. and is contiguous to, arid cammunicates with, the principal street (TafT-stveet) and the large general market in Market-street, and is within a few >ards of i,tienew lnii, tviii h is tipli principal hotel, the Bristol atid West oi Ensland Bank, atrl three other Banks. Khondda-road is a sUeet &') yards in length, fuui extends from the end of Mill-street In a westerly direc- tion, the two stieets forming the entrance alld theollly approach by road to the Rhondda Valleys, which lidve a p 'pulation of 1C0.CC0 inhabitants. The dailv trattic thi-ough these treets to and from the lihomkla Valleys is very considerable. For the purpos" ot the Parliamentavy proceedings, the exact amount, of lueh traltic was ascertained oil Wednesday 110,1 Satur- day. tlie l'ith «nd l&th days of March last, with the following results, — V. hides Persons Cattle and .fall on other Pedestrians. The widening wid be effect.nl by extending the biiil'iings inio the bed of the iiivtr Kliotidda on one side of Mill-street and puichasing additional land on th'; otlu r side, for which the news- taiy powers have been obia ned. thus uiving a much greater depth for business premises. Theie is a great tiemaiid for good business piemises in the central parts of Ih,. town, where, owing to the large trade carried out and th" scarcity of good shops, rents are exc ptionaliy high. The Directors believe that this scheme wi!) afford a perfectly saie and prolitable fiveho'd investment to the shareholders. It liai received the sanction of the Local Board, who have entered into a contract, to pay the Company .t500 towards the ttreet improvements, and it is generally 1I1'r,.ve,1 ut by the residents. When it, was submitted III the Local Board and received their approval, the Chairman publicly declared that it was the greatest improvement that had ever been proposed for the iown. In the early stag"- of the proceedings some dis- satisfaction was expressed under t lie erroneous impres- sion that the directors and their friends intended to appropriate t 11" whole of the capital, but oil it, being announced at a public meeting that the capital would be offered to the public, the scheme met with the general support of the inhabitants. 'I ht' estimated cost of the entire scheme is about £ 70,OJO, which it is proposed to riis,, part ly by the issue <jf £ a0,C{»0 in Shares and partly by it Join. The esti- mated revenue. based oil the Engineer's caicu la:ions, is ikb.SO. Tile wlit)le of the Capit- l is now offered t,, tljti public, but, the Directors hope it will not lie necessary to call in the whole amount, preferring to borrow upon the security of the propertv at II low rate of interest. If the whole of the £ 50,0^0 were called up and he :;1.,0\ estimate of income should (as it is believed) uo realised, it will equal a dividend of not less than £9 per celit.,wilere-. if it should be found practicable to borrow more than it is estimated to pityn larger dividend. Applications for shares should be made on the enclosed forms, accompanied by a payment of Ten Shillings per Share on the ntiml H' of Shares applied for, and tor- warded to the Bristol and West ot England Bank (Limited), at the Chief Office at Biistol. or any of their Branches, where also Prospectuses may be obtained.
