THE PARLIAMENTARY RKPRE8ENTATI0N OF I MID-ULAMOHUAV TO TIIR EDITOR OP THK WKSTBRH MAIL." Sib,—I Itenrtily endorsw all that was qaid in the letter of your correspondent Mid Ulamorgam." The ideu of Tories giving their votes to Mr. C. R. M. Tnihot is absurd j 0111! might just as well vote for the greatest Radical yoins;. Not that I wisii to assert Mr, Talbot would be willing to go the whole length of the Radical programme, but that he is prepared to swallow a greut deal of it is evident from his recent letter respecting the Disestablish- ment of the Church. I assume that the majority of Conservatives in South Wales do not wish to see the proposals of the Liberation Society in force, and would feel virtuously offended were anyonu to think they did, but. I fail to see what difference exibtibetwt-en voting for Mr. Talbot and voting for Disestablishment. ° If the Conservative leaders of this division, instead of debating amongst themselves which of the two Liberal candidates shall have their vote, were to exert themselves on behalf of a Conserva- tive candidate, it would, in my humble opinion, be much more to the purpose. I see that Mr. H. N. Miers has of Lite been actively engaged in address, ing public meetings in different pans of Swansea. Could lie not be prevailed upon to contest this division ? Ho would make a most promising Candida:?, nnd one who I believe would have the full confidence of the party. I have person%lly heard it stated by Coneervative working men that they would feel the greatest pleasure in working for this gentleman with n view to getting him L'lecte nd l think it would be a very great pity if euch 9 healthy feeling was to be slided. If neither Mr. Miers nor any other local gentle- mancan beobtained,is it not possible for us to get« candidate in the same manner that one was ob- tained for Swansea? I hope this matter will be seriously taken up by the powers that be, as I can assure them that the above remarks are the unani- mous sentiments of the Conservative working men of this division, who wish to be reDresenteJ by a Tory or not at ill.-I am, lie.. by a Tory or not at all.—I am, lie., W. S. Neath.

THE FOUNTAIN IN THE SOPHIA GARDENS. TO THR BDITOR 01' THB" WKSTKKN MAIL." Sib,—Surrounded by very beautiful trees and shrubs of various kinds, the question couies to my mind very forcibly, Why is not this pretty foun- tain used? Better that it should be removed altogether than be without the charm for which it was intended. I write these few words fully realising the loss of the sweet sound of water that would make these beautiful grounds complete. I venture to suggest that a small flow c mid always be miint4ind .L ordinary times, )ut upon f*te or h:ie 8arlul\i(:u;f u:'cuï be given, and so life be added to the beautiful sur- roundings. The basin now, at all times, contains only a suiall quantity of dirty water. Surely our noble and kind Marques* never intentled that such should be, I am but one of hundreds who frequent the gardens, and all sincerely hope that we may at once enjoy the quiet ripple and see the bright water glistening in the aut,liglit.-I am, &c., Canton. IA PARK FOR ROATH.I
A PARK FOR ROATH. TO THE EDITOR OF THR WESTERN NAtL," til -I was pleased to see the letter of 4 Poor Man under this I,e.di ? g in your paper this mom- ing, and It is to be hnped that the subject will not be allowed to drop until we see -able pm.. pect of his wish, and that of many others, being carried out. I look at a mRp of Crtrdiff, and I see on the west side the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff Arms Park, and a large piece of ground walled in on the Cathedral-mad, all available, by the kindness and consideration of Lord Bute, for public recreation of one kind or another. Nearer the centre of the town I see the large open spaces—Cooper's Fields and Cathays Park. Beyond tvio, to the east, I see nothing of the kind-notbing but bricks and mortar every where. In the grounds around Knath Castle we have a park rellJy made, and on it some of the most magnificent trees to be found in this neighbourhood. It will be the greatest piece of vandalism ever perpetrated if this ?nd is allowed to pass into the hands of speculative builders and sa those beautiful trees are to be cut down. I am told that it will cost too much money to purchase some of this land for the town. What is too much" when the healthy exercise of a growing population like Cardiff is concerned ? ril. Mackintosh, to whom, I believe, this land belongs, is known to be lady of no niggardly dispoeltion-very far from it-and I will not believe that she would place any obstacle in the way of some of this land being obtained at a reasonable price for the use of the people. I refrain from saying more now, but I sincerely trust that some more influential persons than myself will take up the matter with such energv as shall result eventu?lly In a part of Pl?ewyda being iecured to the public of this end of the town as a lunff imm and recreation around 1,?, [lam. fcc, ALFRED SHEEN.
