Ty Canol, Llangollen, Tach. 20fed, 1909. ♦ FOOTBALL. LLANGOLLEN AMATEURS V. COBWEX.—This match was played at Corwen, on Saturday last, before a fair number of spectators. The visitors won the toss and played with a slight breeze in their favour. The game opened at a fast pace the defence on both sides being too strong for the attack. After twenty five minutes play, Walter Richards receiving in midfield, transferred to A. Lloyd. The latter found an opening for Roberts who struck the upright with a fast cross shot and from the re- bound Wiilie Richards walked the leather into the net. From the eentre the Amateurs raced away, the home goal having several narrow escapes and Matthews was given a fine chance to increase the lead but shot wide, and the interval arrived with the visitors leading by one goal to none. The second half of the game was fairly even. Several chances fell to the Amateurs forwards but all went a-begging. Willie Richards put behind from three yards range and the game ended in a win for the Amateurs by one goal to none. The Amateurs team were as follows Goal, F. Lloyd Baeks, D. Jones, F. Griffiths; Half-backs, J. E. Jones, Walter Richards, A. Lloyd; Forwards, A. W. Edwards, F. Evans, W. Richards, J. A. Mathews, and T. Roberts. WREXHAM AND DISTRICT LEAGUE. DIVISION I. ESOLTJSHAM v. THE AUT OF ADVERTISING.—A tferman journalist has recently been devoting himself to a speoial form of study which one may style the psychology of advert- isment." He finds, as the result of his labours, that an advertisement should appear at least ten times in about the same place in a paper. At the first insertion the reader doesn't see it; at the second he sees it, but does not read it; at the third he reads it; at the fourth he finds out the price of the artiole advertised; at the fifth he notes the address; at the sixth he speaks of it to his wife at the seventh he determines to bay it; at the eighth ho buys it; at the ninth he speaks of it to his friends; at the tenth his friends tell their wives about it. Then oomes multiplication, and the result may be left to the imagination.

GOLF AT CORWEN. THE WYNN CHALLENGE BOWL. The Challenge Cup—n. handsome Silver Rise Bowl kindly given by Mr. Wynu, RÛ5' and in- *cnoed Presented to the Corwen Golf Club by the President "-was presented to Mr. Glynne Owen, The Bank, who defeated Mr. Ton Roberts, Post Office, in the final which was played on Saturday last, by Mr. Lloyd, Rhagatt, who was opportunely one of the few spectators on the ground at the conclusion of the match. Mr. Lloyd congratulated the winner of the cup, and expressed his intention of giving a challenge cap, which will probably be played for in the Spring of n,xt year. Miss Walker, Piasyndye, has also offered a prize for the lady members of the club. Interest rose very high in the final and aft: r some good play Mr. Owen won by 3 ap and 2 to piny. Mr. Owen was al-o presented with a gold Kiedal as a memento priz), and Mr. Tom Roberts received a second priz-j tts runner up. » TOTAL ABSTINENCE RULE FOR DEACONS. WELSH MEMBER'S ADVICE. Speaking on the temperance question at the North Wales Calvinistic Methodist Quattrly Association at Llanidloes, on Tuesday evening, Mr. Dtivid Dvies, M.P., referred to the question whether total absienence should be required of persons elected to the diaconate. Personally, he thought it would be a good thing, and always the best thing, that a deacon should be a total abstainer. —(Hear, hear.) At the same time he did not think it was within the province of the Chuch itself to lay down a hard and fast rule. Rather they should trust the good sense of the congregations to elect none but suitable men to serve them as deacons.— (Applause.) If a hard and fast rule were laid down, he was afraid they would find themselves narrowing down the Church itself to a mere total abstinence society, and thereby running the great risk and danger of placing undue prominence on ooe particular virtue-CHear, hear.) H. himself had been a life-long abstainer, and thought it best that a man holding a high position in the Church should also be an abstainer, but the denomination should take care in making small rules and regu- lations to look at the matter from a broad stand- point, leaving it to the congregations and trusting them to elect the best men to the diaconato.
