He is a son of the late Mr. John Jonei (Dawson), and is only about 19 years of age. Sergeant Bertie Sauvage, son of Mrs. Sauvage, of Richmond House, Bank- street, Rhos, was re- cently married in London previous to his return to the front. Sergeant Sauvage is attached to the Army Service Corps, and was engaged as a motor driver in France during the first few months of the campaign. Rhos is now represented in ,the Royal Flying Corps, Mr. Stanly Hughes rJumng secured admission as the result of examina- tion. He is the son of Mr. Wm. O. Hughes, Johnson-street, and is the first from Rhos district to join this corps. Private Wyatt H. Jones (formerly of Bryn-y-BraiD) has been ap- pointed clerk in the war office, Cairo, Egypt. Pte. Jonathan Jones returned home from hospital last week. He has been serving on the continent with the 4th Batt. since November, and despite the, heavy fighting, escaped unhurt, until the memorable Sunday, May 9th when he received a kullet wound in the chest an inch above the heart He lay in a "Jack Johnson" for over six hours before the stretcher bearers carried him to hos- pital. Another Territorial who has just returned home is Pte. Ben Ellis, who resides off High-street. He also went out in November, and in the severe fighting at La Bassie he was in the trenches and bad been firing until his rifle had beccme so hot that ae had to take a short rest to allow it to cool. His place was taken by Pte. Wm. Fail, who after firing a few shots was shot through the head. Pte. Ellis immediately jumped back to his place o again. After this battle they were given a rest, and were visited by a famous general, who con- gratulated them on having worthily upheld the glorous traditions of the famous regiment.

The number of entries in the musical sections, especially in view of the war and a year's post- ponement, are astonishing and gratifying, and may be tabulated as under :— 1 Definitely Total promised entries. to compete. Doubtful. Chielohoral. 8 6 2 Second choral 9 6 3 Male voice. 9 6 3 Ladies'choirs 10 9 1 Children's ohoirs.. 14 9 5 Bands. 13 7 6 Other musical entries include 57 contralto soloists, 60 sopranos, 49 tenors, 38 baritones and 28 bass. There are 11 entries for the vocal quartet competition, 21 for the soprano and bass duet, 17 for the penillion singing (North Wales style), and 10 for penillion singing in the South Wales style, 18 for children's penillion singing competition, 15 for the violin solo, 36 playing the pianoforte from memory, and 22 for sight playing on tip, pianforte. FLINTSHIRE ASSIZES. -1 LOYAL MESSAGE TO THE KING I The Flintshire Assises were held on' Friday at Mold, before Mr Justice Scrutton, who was ac- comped on the Bancn by Colonel P. f. They rejoice at the encouraging response the men of Flint had made to the call of their King and country, and realising that still more and yet more men and materials will be re- -j quired to enable their country to. emerge trium- phantly from the great struggle in which they are • engaged, they would repectfullr urge upon his Majesty's Government to take into serious con- sideration the advisability of adopting immediate ateps for the futher organisation and mobilisation Gfoureountry's resources in men andm-iterials with a view to ensuring to their arms an early and decisive victory." His Lordship said he would take care that the presentment was forwarded to the proper quarter.
