Japan's Position. The Press Association telegraphing from Cologne on Thursday, says:- The Berlin correspondent of the Koel- nische Zeitung" says:—"it is impossible not to see that the immense sacrifice which Japan has made will meet with a corres- ponding reward. By the fact that Japan has won the Liao-tung Peninsular, and haa obtained the suzerainty over Korea, amount- ing almost to the acquisition of that country. she has ceased to be simply an island State, and has secured a foothold on the Continent as a great East Asiatic Power. Manchuria, too, must be considered in the future as a semi-Japanese hinterland. Ja- pan's moral power at all events will not be confined within the frontiers of Korea and. the Liao-tung.'J
