TO THE BURGESSES OF CANTON WARD. Ladies and Gentlemen, My turn having arrived to retire from the City Counoil, I am prepared again to offer my services on your behalf as one of the Councillors for your Ward. During the two-and-a-half years that I have had the honour to represent you I have given my I most earnest attention to the important bueiness that is continually being transacted by the Council of our City. In particular, I have endeavoured to do my share of the work of maintaining and increasing theem- ciency of its education system: In my view this work is in its nature more essentially democratic than almost any other, for on it the real welfare of the people, intellectual, moral, and material, depends. With regard to our own district of Canton there is ground for congratulation in the opening—first, of the Carnegie Branch Library (which, with Its Children's Room, makets an important addition to our educational buildings), and. eecoudly, of the new Secondary School. In both of these institutions I have taken a Warm interest. I am of opinion that some- thing still remains to be done to make our school grourp complete, especially as regards accommodation for infants. If you consider that I can be of further service to you and to the City generally in the directions I have indicated I would ask your support at the forthcoming election. I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, Yours faithfully, HERBERT M. THOMPSON. Whitley Batch, Llandaff, Cardiff. Oct. 17, 1908. 4776rl7 TO THE NOBILITY. GENTRY. IMPORTANT AND INTERESTING FACT FROM A POLICE OFFICER. "For weeks I suffered from a severe cold, incessant cough, tightness of the chest, and bronchitis. When a severe cough came on I thought I would rupture a blood-vessel. One of your bills was handed me on the street in Glasgow. I went to the nearest chemist's shop and purchased a bottle of your Tudor Williams' Balsam of Honey. I took a dose there and then in the shop. The effect waa marvellous—it eased my cough instantly. I have found nothing so effectual. I consider it a Golden Remedy. Words are far from being adequate to describe how thankful I am to you for making known your great discovery to the world.—Yours truly, Donald Mackintosh (Police-constable). Clyde-street, Glasgow." C188 I THE OPTIMIST is the thoroughly healthy person. His buoyant hopefulness and large capacity for work or enjoyment spring from the possession of abounding vitality. His attitude towards the world differs radically from that of the gloomy dyspeptic individual who is a burden to himself and more or less of a nuisance to others. He is always genial and good- humoured and perceives the bright side of everything, because his digestive organs are healthy and active. No man or woman can be cheerful so long as their system is starved and poisoned, and the brain olouded and depressed through the failure of the Stomach and Liver to perform their functions satis- factorily.
