Ladies and Gentlemen, My turii having arrived to retire from the City Council, I am prepared again to offer my services on your behalf as on.e of the Councillors for your Ward. During the two-and-a-half yea,m that I have had the honour to represent you I have given my tnost earnest attention to the important bueineas that is continually being transacted by the Council of our City. In particular, I have endeavoured to do my share of the Work of maintaining and increasing the eill- ciency of its education system. In my view this work is in its nature more essentially democratic than almost any other, for on it the real welfare of the people, intellectual, moral, and material, depends. With regrar.i to our own district of Canton there ifi ground for congratulation in the opening-first, of the Carnegie Branch Libra.ry (which, with ite Children's Room, makes a.n important addition to our educational buildings), and, secondly, of the new Secondary School. In both of these institutions I have taken a Warm interest. I am of opinion that some- thing etill remains to be done to make our Bchool group complete, especially as regards accommodation for infants. If you consider that I can be of further service to you and to the City generally in the directions I have indicated I would ask your support at the 'lorthcoming election. I am. IMPORTANT AND INTERESTING FAaT FROM A POLICE OFFICER. For weeks I suffered from a severe cold, inces.«a>nt cough, tightness of the chest, and bronchitis. When a severe cough came on I thought I would rupture a blood-vessel. One of your bills was handed me on the street in Glasgow.
