JACK ROBERTS, Brynmawrs I Centre, will soon spoil his fine reputation, if he insists upon making eo many flying kicks. lie should remember that it is very bad form, and a ris*ky game õO play. Ho has few equala in picking up the baD, and if he lvouid oniv cdopt this style of play oftejaer lie woulu moke an ideal player. I diM DAVIES, Swansea, The Seconds new three-quarter, has the rr»^iT>g of a gGod. man, and in a good many people's estimation should be picked as the first reserve man.fl^t&e firsts. That run of his when pitying against Ammanf&rd was a brilliant effort, and would have done credit to a more experienced player than Jim. He is likely to be heard of in tie near future. TOM WILLIAMS, Abertillery, Is now known as one of the sturdiest and best Ict- W-,i-ds in the Monmoulhshira Junior Le&.gue. For tha last couple of seasons Tom has played with the Aber- tillcrv Crusaders, but never has he played so finely as ho has this !!e&S()n. Young, of exceptionally powerful build, Tom is alwr.va dead cn the ball, and will last out tho hardest game without Hitching. His play in the recent inter-league match was really excellent, while his form against Llanhiiletli was at the same high ordar. LEWIS SMITH, Stroud, Played on the wing for Gloucester for a con pie of seasons, but has this season again thrown in his lot with his old club and was unanimously elected to cap- tain the team. He is a most consistent player, and was 3 tower of strength to his side last Saturday against Lydney, his defensive play in particular saving three cr four tries. It was very unfortunate, however, for him to receive a dislocated shoulder late in the game, which will probably keep him out of the field the remainder of the current season.
LLANBRADACH ASSOCIATION GOSSIP
LLANBRADACH ASSOCIATION GOSSIP Naturally everyone expected Ebbw Vale to win their match with. Llanbrada<ch on Satur- day last, as the Valiaxit are a. formidaI)Ie side. The first meeting of these teams at Llanbrtwlach on October 1.Q. 1905, saw Ebbw Vale winning a rousing game by four goals to three, and the Email baud of supporter. ■Chat accompanied, the team to the Bridgend enclosure had just a little hope that the blue and red crew would give the champions quite as goJ<! x game again. The first half passed off quite satisfactorily, but in the second moiety the bad luck that haa «) olttin made itself ie.t amongst the Li-anbra-,a,Lt-ti team this season was again at work. First, Sid Evans's ankle gave way, which will ksep him out of the fi-cld fur at least a month, then TVatkin's foot that, was injured in th.e Hoarstone match caused him no end of trouble. Had it noi b&en for the grand defensive work of Mills, Grundy. and bevail the scoro would have been greater than the "Hoggy" whacking the week previous. Llanbradach are loud in their praisse at the warm-hearted way in which the Ebbw Va.le team treated them on tiaiurday. After the match both teams sat, down to an exc"i- lent sprea.d al the Valians' headquarters, and so well did the visitors enjoy themselves that they found it a hard job to leave Ebbw Ya.le with the last train.

CARDIFF'S SENSATIONAL WIN
CARDIFF'S SENSATIONAL WIN History Repeats Itself at Llanelly. 3Y "FORVfAED."] Two years ago—iNoTember 33, 1902, to be exact-Cardiff won the match in the last few minutes of the game through tries being Ecored by Bob Grey and "Wax" Williams, both of whom nave einoe joined Northern "Cnion clubs. History practically repeated itself on :t,u.rday, but in a eomewliat more sensational form, the winning try being scored by Percy Bush in tbe very last, minute of tbe gam; Both matches will lont? be remembered h- those who witnessed them, but that which is likely to live lonpeot in tht'- memory i? that of last- Saturday. 'íw() re-aeons ago C'eci; Eirgs tvus the conspicuous figure in a great indi- vidual effort, and it was his run from his own 25 to the Llaneliy goaj-!in<» that msde it easy for Bob Grey to score the winning try. Of Bu«h it may be said that "a'.ono he did it." Without taking tim-c to gi,e his con- freres t.he least warning- of his intentions, he hroh.¿. away from t'chi.nd a scrum in the centre. and, dodging one and swerving past another opponent, be finally came to Tjlannlly's last line of oefe!1-:gob Ri<,hardo". Going on at top eneed, he flew pis: Richaid.. and threw himself over the line vivh a try which was an eye-opener at the moment and the main subject of football chat, at Llanelly for the rest of the evening. No one was f loucer in his praises of the effort than I/ianelly's erstwhile famous tikipper and old Welsh international, Owen Badger. But. while admiring Uush s cleverness. Badger could not understand what had become of Llanelly's tackling. That lie should have wondered was only natural to one wh-oee tackling was some- thing to be avoided when he v "s at his beet. The mention of Badger's name reminds me of t.he large number of old Llan-eliy jj^iyerc whose carters have been cut short by.jrfheir folly in becoming Northern Tnioiii!?t? ^u*d who have now returned to their n?ti??ip''A-n sadder fad wMtr n??n. Some o! V.s I ttc.ed the match on Saturday, and 1 can wed. understand how tiicv mutt hav- been harping with an eag<emess to throw themselves itito especially when the5for- wards were giving thfe backs the most glorious chances the heart of me:l could dj(6ire. 1u buck play LlaneMy has fallen frorilkits high estate, but the forwards are as go an. if nut better, they ever werw, and one of be bpst among them on Sat irday wo- s tJJe oldest — J. Thf)mae f'Ftshs'na:-<). Thi> old warrior was one of the origipal players in that smart junior organisation, the "g^aside Stars, and he has been playing regularly for ever since the Stars threw in their lot with the premiers. Ben Davies was a ( vet«rau L'i >.j:e ewperlstivw decr(-e when he recently ietirsd, but "Fishguard" is an older' hand at the game, and he Av;vuld net tllank you for suggesting anything about the sere and yellow leaf. In the fast following up I of the L-anelly forwards in this match he was I invariably leader, and in the mauls he worked with a will throughout. He has at least one! more season's football left in him. Smallneas of r.-hysique has been his only barrier to the highest honours, but he was never ambitious, and will he quite content w-Iwn he has taken off the jereey for the last time with the consciousness that he has done his beet for his club. Another old Seaside Stars' forward who played on Saturday was Jack Jones, audi it is hard to decide whether he or "W. J." has best, retained his youth. Jack never made much of a, show in the open, but he has cve-r been a very Trojan in the scrimmage, Then Morgan Williams, the right-wing three- quarter, was another "Star.' One saw glimpses of his former self in Morgan's poiay on Saturday, but the elasticity and dafih of his younger days were missing. It seems cu-ange, perhaps;, to most people who have the patienoe to read this column that I Fhould hare knowledge of these men. and that I should speak of them at eo much length. Cardiff players, let me say, have be-an "under treatment" week after week all through the season, and. as it is my business to remember that "there are otherb," it becromes my duty to extend my sphere when- ever opportunity serves. Early recollections are those most dearly cherished, and a dooen articles would not suffice if I did but "let myself go" on the subject of football in the Wefet. and at Llanelly in particular. Stracey -tands where it did; tix) same old grand- stand, the ettme old sixpenny side, the same old "Oefn Sidan." and many of the same old faciei. And, in regaTd to the town itself, the same old tinworks, the same old street, the same old church., and, above all, the same old tramcars. What a prosaic place Llanelly would be without those one-horse c.a.rs! Some- one described them as prehistoric. They are not that, but they look it. Of course, all this has nothing to do with football, but what more natural than suah a digression! A town capable of building a dock without I an entranoe is, of necessity, an alluring sub- ject, especially to one who has to preaoh a weekly sermon from virtually the same text for eight months of the year. But it happens in this instance that there is "food for reflection" in the subject in hand. Por example, nothing could have been more inspirating than those fine, sweeping rushes of the Llanelly forwards when they made up their minds to go aiong. It is only fitting, that at least one man should have been chosen out of such a, pack for international honours, and I believe that in Hari-y Watkins I the best man of the bunch was chosen. It was thought possible at one time that Staeey would also be capped against Scotland, but I he did not show hit: best form against Cardiff lat Saturday, and those members of the match committee who were on the ground judged the man as they saw him thai day. Watkins is not, so tajl or heavy as Staoey. but be is of a sturdier build. and a better equipped physicallj' for hard. jsraelliiys WW6 in the scrum. Watkins is one of the many Llandovery boys who have won highest honours in football, and. being exceedingly- popular among ail who know him, his eeieo tion will be hailed with considerable satis- faction. He came into prominence as a for- ward through the medium cf the Llanelly Club, which he joined three seasons ago. After giving such an admirable display against Llanelly, there is another player who cnght, at least, to have been considered by the committee.. I need hird-y eay that his name is Percy Bush. Ilia play, both ia attack and defenoe, was as nearly rerfeC as it possibly c..(Juld lie. but fcr some mystenou» reason lie is passed over, and a player chosen, who is quite a hundred per cent, below inter- na; ioT. a i form at the present time. Dick. Jones. I know, has played scores of rattlinc good games for Swansea, but he has gone off sadlv in the last couple of months. pDd be never played a poorer game than be did at I Exeter on Wednesday. Some day we may know the why and wherefore of this prejudice against Percy Bush, who is easily the most brilliant, attacking player in the country, and whose defence is at leas-t equal to that of i oi.her international half-backs who could be named. I hoid no brief for Bush, more.thaa any other player, except in the sense that I like to see merit fairly and squarely recog- nised. "Billie" N eil has won his spurs at last, asi II am one of those who believe that, though j lacking somewhat ic devil, h? will not bctK the trust reposed in him by the Welsh Unioa lectors. I Cardiff, a." indicated in the first part of this cis.iointed production, won on the tape. and I did not meet a Fmgle Liane?iy man L'* a D c-, y- man who was' disconsolate over the result. "If Gwyn y;<?olls had be;n on the field it would j he a difercnt thing, but. as he was off 90 long, it is just as we!) that thinB are am they are." That was the prevailing sentt- J mer.it.

During tne nrst halt- hour the homesters did not seem to put enough life into their piay, and me conse- quence was that Cantc-n crossed over Witn » lead oi one goal, iauss scoring. On resuming, however, Smgietona were eariy on the aggres- sive, Pritchard and ebb scoring, ana .Mil- ford (Canton; brought tue home score tj three by putting tnrougil his own goal. The Singletons have a good mau in byan tia-ceoii, at ieit bacK, who seems to improve every game; his recent displays againPonJ.ott.yn and Barry stamp him as a piayer of no mean merit, ais judgment and. powerful kicking being anything but benefi- cial to opposing toeam. 'I'he Canton team, I am pleased to near, took tuieir aeleat in the best of spirit, Captain Graham being early in his congratulations to the bome SKipper on the victory. There is room for more ot this kind of feeling among local league clubs. The Hayef Eugby team went to Whitchurch an W ednusday, and snatched a win over tha villagers by a single point, or two tries to a goal. The victory is a eredtable one when consideration is given to the fact that the Hayes lacked tne services 01 a couple of stal- wart scrimmagers, and were, perforce, obliged to fill tHe gaps by including Iduir and Dale, from their Soccer team. Smith and Jones scored the dinners' poiats, and ttio issue, as the score indicates, was in douiit until the final whisLle was sounded. A valuable suggestion has been forwarded me by & correspondent. It is a request that a Wednesday Association League should lie promoted, and in support of nis uesire he points out that there are nearly a dowen mid- week teams in Cardiff who would gladly join tlhe com petition, among them being Canton Wednesday, lioath, Wi-irtons, etc. All I caa say on the subject is that such a league ought to ha.ve been promoted long ago. Them is hardly any doubt but that the liaxiy and Penarth hnams would give it their hearty support, and even iar-oft' Bridgend would soon cry "Open, Sesame." But there is the trophy to be first obtained, and also a sot of medals, or else the competition will be a failure, for without a, cup and medals a league is like "Hamlet" without ite prmce. Stilly therp should be very little difficulty in th.a.t. because I have an idea that the sportsman- ship of the rival tradesmen, in whose busi- nesses the players are engaged, will prevail. The best plan, if the season be not too far advanced, is for a strong working committee to be formed. Any movement in this direc- tion will receive my help, and I invite expres- mons of opinion from those who care to con- oem themselves in the matter. Rugby Rarebits. OMrien.
