IN MEMORIAM. EV ANS.-In Loving Memory of Sign. Archie Evans, R.F.A., who died of wounds, Sept. 3rd, 1918, aged 20 years, in France, son of Mr. D. D. E. Evans, 3, Railway terrace. He left us all so lonely To answer his country's call, Giving up his homely comforts, On the battlefield to fall; He was was like so many others, Just took a sporting chance, Now lies, so still and peaceful, 'Neath the soil somewhere in France. Sadly missed by Father and Mother Brother Tom and Sisters.

A VACANT DEANERY. I For one of tho deaneries now vacant in England (writes "Oxon") the name of Canon Edwards Rees, D.D., formerly of IVIanchester, now rect-or of Rothbury, Northumberland, is widely mentioned. The living of Rothbury is a delightful one and its income is larger-far larger-than that of most deaneries. It seems a mis- use of pwer that a man of Canon Rees's extraordinary vigour (physical and mental) should be confined to the simple duties of a parish priest in a small village. But he burst his bounds, for his activities as a preacher (in many a cathedral) and as a lecturer are ceaseless, and the fruits of his prlific pen are con- stantly seen in the leading papers, Church and lay. Canon Rees is a native of Llan- elly. He graduated in high honours both -at Glasgow and Oxford.

'That what chiefly upset the equanimity of the trippers was that the supply of sandwiches ran low. That three local chauffeurs had a great time in Stradey Woods a few evenings ago. That a young lady had a nasty spill on Tuesday in Old Castle road. That she must have forgotten she was "not" riding a gent's cycle. That a married man from the New Dock district has turned his affections towards a damsel from town. That if his wife gets to know of this there will be trouble. That we hope he will keep his affections for one he calls "duckie." That Halfway should be the scene of a rare tussle this afternoon. That we understand the "Ton" team are bent on obtaining full honours. What will ye 'Sospans say to that ? That the adventures of a local de- mobbed while appearing before a Medical Board at Carmarthen a few days ago are really amusing. That our friend feigned about a dozen various complaints, and oh what a piteous tale he told the Board. That there is reason to believe that when the result of the medical examin- ation is made known the "martyr" will be slightly surprised. That two young men had a heated dis- cussion near Union Bridge on Sunday evening. That the point at issue was: Was it "night" or "evening." That it all arose through meeting a young lady friend. That the public thoroughfare is hardly the place to make apologies to young ladies. That passers-by in a well known street were greatly amused to hear a young gentleman doing the "amende honour- able" to his young lady. That it is sincerely hoped that peace has now been restored between them. That two local boys fond of variety called at a Swansea toilet saloon recently. That one gave orders for a hair-cut and face massage, whilst the other contented himself with "same as 'im, please." That a silver-mounted umbrella changed owners in a local church on Sunday. That there is a suspicion that it was more than an accident. That for the benefit of the lady con- cerned there should be a new command- ment—"Thou shalt not covet thy neigh- bours 'gamp.' That two fair damsels at Burry Port were "piloted" and "surveyed" in grand style on Thursday evening. That the young men who accompanied them gavel them the slip quite un-"ob- served." That in spite of the cries raised by the young ladies their attempts to find their escorts proved futile. That the friendship which exists be- tween a Burry Portian of our acquaint- ance and the "landlord's daughter" threatens to develop into a romance. That the "long and short" of it may be seen somewhere in Burry Port next Sunday.
