Another Motor Fatality I BOY KILLED BY BREAD VAN. I Mr. W. W. Brodie conducted an in- quest at Capel Als Schoolroom on Thurs- day on tjhe body ot Ivor Bassett Jones, a boy of four, of 6, Eorge row, who died at the Llanelly Hospital on Wednesday as the result of injuries received through being knocked down by a motor car on Monday. Arthur Henry Oliver, 14, Upper Robin- son street, said he was a motor driver in the employ of Messrs. Morris. Black and Co. At about 3 p.m. on the 18th inst., he was driving a motor van up Sandy Bridge, delivering bread. In company with him was Mr. Tom Williams. When witness first saw the deceased he was only 10 yards in front of the car, and was running acro&s the road. The car was then travelling between 8 and 10 miles an hour. Witness reduced the speed to about half, and continually sounded horn. Then the child doubled back across the road just when he (witness) began to increase the speed again. Witnes-s could not say whether deceased had seen the.car approaching. There was no other vehicle rear the spot at all. When the* child commenced running back witness at once applied the brakes and also ewerved to try and avoid collision. In spite of tliig, however, the right front wheel struck the little boy. Witness and his companion then conveyed deceased to eurgery of Dr. Johns. Fairfield. Witness etated that he had had six years ex- perience in driving. Dr. Johns stated that the child was brought to his surgery at about 3.30 p.m. He then found, upon examination, a deep wound in the back of the head, and also a jagged wound in the right groin. Deceased was then unconscious, and was breathing slightly. Death was due to fracture at the base of the skull. Thomas Williams, van salesman, said he was accompanying Oliver at the time and in his opinion the latter had done all he could to prevent the accident. The jury returned a verdict- of acci- dental death.

AS a result of recent appeals for -?? economy in the consumption of water, a decrease of about 500,000 gallons per day has been secured in the Filtered Water Supply as compared with .the month of July. The serious attention of Consumers is directed to tho abSolute necessity of further economising. The present domestic consumption is 35 gallons per head per day and this should be imme- diately reduced to 20 gallons. Householders are warned to cut down waste and unnecessary use of water to an absolute minimum in order to ensure a supply during the present prolonged drought., The use of hosepipes is prohibited and all defects in pipes and fittings should be reported, without day, to the Borough ,iurve,yor. It is Said I I. a .J. 4 ,a That a "petite fille" from Station I road finds a unique method of amusement in the afternoons. That feigning sleep she assnmes various poses in the front window. That all the while through half-closed eyelids she surveys the effect of her posing upon the passing k-nuts. That a college bhoy was rather con- spicuous in "whites" at Pare Howard on Tuesday. That the manner in which he accosted his friends caused much amusement. That he was anxious to get the house door key in order to get a change of togs, as his "whites" only alienated the "ghirls." That a touching tale of a shattered romance comes from College Square. That one certain bhoy there chose to treat his "love" affair as a game of ehajice. That he soon found his hand of 'spades' I, worthless when 'hearts' were trumps. That the fair maiden who held the "trumps" chose to help another friend rather than our now despondent hero. That a well-known local fop is rather feud of the Pare Howard tennis courts these days. That he is practising in preparation for his holidays at Llandudno. That he intends shining there. We wonder Will-ee ? That a local fitter lost money cheaply on Monday night. That lie was reckless enough to bet with a young lady that she would not ac- company him to the Cinema. That she did-of course she would- and his pals wonder if this was a dodge of his to make up a "closer" acquaint- ance. That a young lady employed at a local tinworks looks like winning a reputation as a quick-change artiste, not to men- tion "camuoflaging." That a few minutes after the hiss of the hooter she is busily engaged at home in the "art of beauty.* That in a very short time she blossoms forth, her complexion of rose-petal order, her hair encircling in a series of stray curls around her neck. That at her work she hurls all kinds of threats at the "It-is-Saidist," while in the evening she is just—beastly annoyed with him. That- the poor "It-is-Saidist" is subject to all this, because he announced her coming marriage to a "real gentleman." That our young friend(?) has even offered a reward to the first person who discloses the identity of the heartless author of this column. That on Tuesday evening five youths seemed to think "Revue" dear at any price. That they were quite disappointed to find no half-price tickets issued to the stalls at half-time. That ultimately this economic quin- tette found consolation for the loss of a musical treat in a sumptuous spread of fish and chips. That a local k-nut had rather an ex- pensive "toilet" at a Cardiff barber's re- cently. That after about half an hour's treat- ment to head and face he was calmly asked fo- 2s. 9d. Whiw That. the hairdresser could appreciate a little joke too, for in reply to the k-nut's enquiries as to when he would go for holidays he said: "Next week at this rate." Exasperating, wasn't it ?

UNITED COUNTIES SHOW. I The United Counties Show at Carmar- then on Thursday passed off most suc- cessfully, there being a large and fashion- able gathering. Mr. W. H. Buckley. Penyfai, won first prize with "Owen Glendwr," for the best hunger of any age, and in the jumping' competition, premier honours were carried off by Mr. Walter Da vies, Highfield. Among those present were Lady Howard, Major and Mrs. Bishop, Pembrey, Mrs. A. Garnons Williams, Mr. Frank H. More, and Mr. T. M. Davies, Highfield.

Here and There. 1 -— Four hotel-keepers were fined E30 each at Hastings on Tuesday for charging fid. for a sixth of a gill of whiskey. The Whit j Star Liner "Belgic" left Liverpool on Saturday for Halifax and New York with 3,400 homeward bound Canadian troops. Jane Smith, a newsvendor, of Great Ormonde street, London, was fined tIO at Bow street Police Court for loitering in Southampton row for the purpose of betting. When arrested she had over "166 in her possession. F. and A. Page and Co. Ltd., butchers, of Hornsey, were fined at North London Police Court k25 for selling mutton at 2d per lb. above the maximum. Slightly scalded at Blackwood, South Wales, a boy named Mortimer has since died from lockjaw. Late at night a cow and a calf strayed from a farm in Bedfordshire, and in Watlilig street next morning the cow was found standing by the carcase of the calf, which had been knocked down and killed by a vehicle.
