Ellen May Jones, 1 Tabcrna b- terrace, mother cf deceased, said thar, her son was 19 months old. About 12.30 on Tuesday deceased and his sister went out to buy sweets. The shop was just across the read. Witness went to pu" the kettle on and then proceeded to tho parlour to see that the children were ;f.c. Witness saw the car approaching and the child running across. She ran our. of the house to try and save him, but on her arrival the deceased was "underneath the car. Witness could not say how' tVv, the car was travelling. Jane Thomas, Greenfield Houtce, Llwyn- hendy, said that she was standing out- side her house and saw deceased standing in the middle of the tram line, loss than 10 yards in front of a car coming from Llanelly. Witness heard the boll sounded but the boy did nothing only moved from side to side. The driver chopped the tram pretty quickly but it ktmrk the de- ceased first. Witness added sho thought the driver had done all he con id to pre- vent the accident. Evidence of the Driver. I John Williams, Greenway strèet, the, driver of the car, said he fiibt. saw the deceased when the car was within ten vards of him. The car was then travel- ling at less than twice a walking pace. Ho had the car well under control, all the brakes being in perfect working order. When witness first saw deceased the lat- ter was between tho track and the foot- path. Witness sounded the beU and pro- ceeded, but when he was quite near de- ceased he turned and stepped, on to the rails. Tho car struck the boy, and when witness got down he found deceased under the back of the car with his head severed from the body. In answer to the jury witness .aid that the life-guard in front was down when ho saw it. Ho could not isay how the child got under the car. The guard acts when anything strikes agaiiint it, and was in perfect working order The jury returned a verdict, of acci- dental death. ;rt; :-Y:.rc'
