Smokes for the Boys ———- 0 -——— GENEROUS SUPPORT FOR THE "STAR" FUND. We would like to take this oppor- tunity of thanking our numerous readers who were so generous in their support cf the Star' Cigarette Fund. The Fund was opened early in 1915, and thanks to the kind and continu- ous help of our readers we were able to despatch some thousands of parcels of cigarettes to France, Salonika, Mesopotamia and Serbia, as well as to the local lads serving in the Navy. How the gifts were appreciated was s hown by the shoal of letters of ac- knowledgment which reached the Editor. O Here are some -typical ex- tracts: "I may say that the smokes came in very handy as theyare scarce out here. "My after dinner smoke to-day was very enjoyable I can assure you." "We are now in the trenches and depression disappears when we know that we are smoking comforts from the old home." "It makes one feel very happy to know that he does not go through the hardships of the battlefield with- out the kind thoughts of the towns- people. "When I smoke your cigarettes, my mind wander to the kind people at home. Many thanks also from my comrades who participated in a "W oodbine Smoker" last evening to celebrate the occasion." "I was very glad to receive your parcel because it put an extra dose of pluck in me to face the Germans. I have only to thank the 'Star' and its friends who are doing so much to make us happy out here." "I am smoking the cigarettes with special pleasure knowing that thev have come from old friends in Sospan Fach who are thinking of us."
