GENERAL SMUTS. I To the Editor of the "Star." I Sir, General Smuts, who is one of the few statesmen to-day with a vision, has de- livered some speeches bearing the mark of real wisdom. Although a master of the art of war, he hates it, and sets his highest hopes upon the peaceful develop- men of the world. "War," he asserts: "Is man made, and must be undone by the intelligence of man." He ridicules the idea that problems of Peace should not be discussed until after the war, and says that if one-hundredth part of the says that if one t thought that has been given to the war were given to schemes of Peace, we should never see another war. This war may have created a passion for Peace, which will in the end prove stronger jhan the passion for war. I am, -tc., f. T. E. DAVIES. rrimsaran, AYlES, October 39-h, 0- U j _tJ., J.Å
