Election Items. ■ The Election day passed off without any incident of note. The good temper which characterised the contest from the begin- ning was in evidence to the very end. Polling wis very slow in the early part of tne day and up to o clock only a small proportion of the electorate had polled. After that, however, brisk business was done at all the booths, the poll at the end being the heaviest ever recorded in the town. Party colours were freely worn. What" surprised one was to see in such a notori ously Liberal town as Llanelly such a dis play of red. This alone was thought to be a bad omen to Mr. Llewelyn Williams and many of his supporters were quite pre- pared for a largely reduced majority. As it turned out, however, he did even better than against Mr. Fonsonby who was not such a popular candidate as Lord Tiverton' proved to be. Miss Stepney took a prominent part in the election. During the day she visited several of the polling booths and then travelled to Carmarthen for the counting. After the declaration of the rMuIt- Mi., Stepney relit: ned to Llanelly and spoke to a huge crowd from the- Liberal head. quarters. There were in all 29 spoilt votes. Many of these we-e defaced bySoj:.tlists, who instead of placing the usual cross on the ballot paper, scribbled some Socialistic dogma across it. If the extremists in the Socialist party did nothing worse than that no one would quarrel with them. The counting of the votes took up pn unconscionably long time. The result was not declared until after midnight, whereas it ought to have been ready by 11.30 at latest. Vaughan-street was a great centre of attraction during the day, and in the even- ing an enormous crowd gathered near the Athenaeum. The enterprising proprietors of the Picturedrome had made arrangements for showing the result on a large screen. Preceding this ;came a series of humorous pictures which created great amusement Later on further election results were an nounced from the STAR Office to a large crowd. The prize of a three months fre.e pass to the Picturedrome, offered by Mr. Harry B. Parkinson, the manager, waswon by Miss Gwladys Lewis, Rolling Mill Inn, Station Road, who was one of 1,200 persons who sent in forecasts on cards. 'Mr. Parkinson stated that there were ten cards which pre- dicted a majority of between five and ten votes for Lord Tiverton. Miss Stepney also took part in the Competition. The winning lady's forecast was 2230, within two figures of the correct result.

Turned out of hk StalL —— A letter was read on Thursday at the meeting of the Estate Committee, from Mr. Carpenter, formerly a tenant at the Market with a fruiterer's stall, in which he said Mr. Rees has still got locked up in the market about f.5 worth of seeds which no doubt by now have been destroyed by rats. He has also got one bag of seed worth 3()1., and 5 scales belonging to me. I have had a 26 years tenancy, asd it is only 3 weeks' rent I owe, CT 0 3d. I promised to pay in a fortnight." w Mr. E. T. Jones (to Mr. Rees) Is it right that he only owes 3 weeks' rent, and he has been there 26 vears ? Mr. Rees No, he owes 4 weeks' rent, and I have got an application for the space he is keeping. He did not have any goods there for four weeks, and therefore could .aöt sell anything. I told him to clear out, but he would not go. Mr. E. T. Jones Well, -we'll return the goods and the scales. Mr. Rees I have got 3 scales, but I have only a few seeds which are not worth any- thing. The Committee decided to leave the mat- ter to Mr. Rees.
HOW TO SEE THE COMET.I
HOW TO SEE THE COMET. I A new daylight" comet, seen first a few days ago by Mr, Innes in South Africa, was clearly observed last evening in Llanelly and elsewhere. An observer writes us: for those who did not see this beautiful and mysterious stranger last night—about half past five o'clock look due west, just about the place where the sun has set. Well above the horizon the comet may be seen, its tail streaming upwards from the neucleus. The sky around is full of a silvery glow, the whole is perfectly clear even at 5.20 though much daylight remains. f;'
jNEW DRILL HALL.
NEW DRILL HALL. At a meeting of the Estates Committee, an application was read from Capt. W. Bramwell Jones for the extension of the lease held by the Llanelly Territorials in respect of the armoury for three months. The Clerk explained that twelve months notice had been given to the Territorials, which expired that month, and Capt. Jones desired to have the extension to March, by which time it was hoped to have the new Drill Hall ready.
REGISTRAR'S COMPLAINT.-I
REGISTRAR'S COMPLAINT. I A letter was read at a meeting of the Estates Committee of the Urban Council from Mr. J. W. Bishop, the registrar com- plaining that the caretaker of the Town Hall was offensive to one of his clerks, and because they worked late had threatened to turn the gas out. The floors were never clean, and the windows wanted cleaning badly. Mr. W. Bramwell Jones When do they expect these rooms to be swept if they are working there every night ? After some discussion Mr. D. Jas, JDavies stated in view of the enomious quality of gas burned the rent must be increased. They keep 14 jets goim*. The rent of the offices was £ 100 per ?nnum, the lease dating 1896, and it ran to 1917. Mr. W. Bramwell Jones Do we accept r. Bishop's cojmplaint or do we ask the caretaker to give us an explanation. It was ultimately decided that the clerk should write to the Registrar (Mr. Bishop), and also the caretaker to report to the next meeting.

League of Young Liberals.
League of Young Liberals. (To the Editor of the STAR). Sir,—Perhaps you will allow me a few litiei in your valuable paper to suggest j that a league of young liberals be formed in the town. As a paper which hears both parties, I should like the STAR to take this matter up. Llanelly is a town of fine liberal traditions and there is room for an organization which would band together the younger members of the cause. Speakers could be arranged to attend the meetings and debates could be organized between juniors." It would be instructive and would do a great deal of good to the young people of the town. What does the President of the Liberal Club say to this ? I await his reply in your next isSue with interest. I am, yours, etc., A YOUNG FREE-TRADER." Llanelly, Jan. 21, 1910.
!^| FIRE IN WIND STREET.1
FIRE IN WIND STREET. Late on Wednesday night a fire broke out in a chip potato shop in Wind-street kept by Mrs. James, a widow. The fire was caused by flames reaching the grease, and. oil in the machine, but fortunately it was extinguished before any serious damage was done. There was a lar ge crowd near the Athenaeum which is close by, at the time, waiting for the election results, and no little excitement prevailed. Sergeant Britten and Sergeant Thoma's were very prompt in their measures to put out the conflagration. Lieut. John and the fire brigade turned out but their services were not required. I

Asterisks. I
Asterisks. i King Edward VII. has reigned exactly nine years to to-day. Mr Abel Thomas predicts thai, there will be another election in twelve mouths time. An exciting contest is anticipated at Stradey on Tuesday afternoon next, when the Oriental Stars meet the Tuesdays. Mr Timothy Davies who lost Louth to the Liberals has a brother who was a police officer at Llanelly a few years ago. The comet was seen by a large number of people yesterday. To-night, people will be too busy seeing the Star to look for it. » 0 a The announcement Please refrain from smoking on the screen in the Athenaeum square on Wednesday caused roars of laughter. ,Miss S. A. Williams has again been re- turned to the fourth position in the Western èMail Scholarship competition. Hurry up -with your coupons please, and get the okily Llanelly candidate to the top position A servant who prided herself on being employed in a genteel family,' was asked what she meant by a genteel family.' Where they have two or three kinds of wine, and the gentleman swears was the f reply. » « o There was a stampede in the great crowd waiting for the election resuit on Wednes- day night when the news went round that a fire had broken out in Wind-street. For- tunately, the fire was not se-ious. It is not usual for two oratorios to be performed in town just about the same period. On Feb. 1st Tabernacle perform Rossini s Stabat Mater," and on Feb. 26, Soar, Llwynhendy, perform the same work. An enthusiastic crowd of admirers towed Mr & Mrs Llewelyn Williams on Wednes- day night from the Sandyi Bridge to the Pic- turedrome Balcony and afterwards to the Liberal Club. It was not a case of punc- tured as our member had the Stepney Wheel attached y Each evening this week the Star" Office has been announcing the result of the day's pollings to large crowds. The demand for the special edition of the Star last Satur- day night has never been equalled. Thou- sands of persons bought it. Mr. Harry P. Parkinson, the popuhr manager of the Picturcdrome, is very en- terprising. Within a few minutes of a no- tice being sent to him that a special edition of the Star would be published on Sat- urday, it was shown on the screen to a large crowd. The management of the Royalty Theatre are to be complimented on bringing such a splendd attraction to the town next week, when "\essrs Travis Green & Co. will pro- duce that gorgeous pantomime, entitled, a-Cinderella.' Crowded houses are assured sndwe advise our readers to book their eats early. Aboard school girl told us that she never intended to marry. Before you marry it's You shall 'ave this, and you shall 'ave that; you shall go here, and you shall go there but when you are married, if you don't be- long to 'im body and soul, why you gits 'it in the 'ead. My big sister's married, and I know." The crowds this week have been very humorous. When the defeat of Mr. Chiozza Money was announced at this office, a voice shouted out. Yes, but they don't want Money in Paddington, they want work When Dr. Macnamara's return was an- nounced an enthusiastic band of local foot- ballers sang together Macnamara"s well koown chorus. Mr. David Rhys, the Unionist candidate, who is fighting Mr. Hemmerde, has been scoring off hecklers very cleverly this week. One inquisitive elector wanted to know about Disestablishment, and Mr. Rhys smartly told him that although he did not see what good Disestablishment would do yet he was prepared to do as much for it as the Liberal party had deRe during the last j 20 year,st
