(2) Candidates will be expected to show that they have read "Gerard's Long Journey" by Charles Reade (Oxford Press Id.), so that they shall be able to give in their own words an account of any incident chosen from that book, or offer their opinion of any character therein described. (3) They. will also be expected to show that they have had access to a good collection of the shorter poems of the best ^English writers. "In Welsh districts the poems of Welsh writers mav be submitted instead of, or together with, those of English writers. 1. GEOGRAPHY.—(«) A general knowledge of the earth and its peoples and a more detailed knowledge of the British Isles and the British Dominions beyond the seas, with special reference to the commercial relations existing between various parts of the British Empire and between the Empire and other Countries. The Railway System of the British Isles should be studied. (b) Questions will be set on the Geography of Wales and of Pembrokeshire. Simple Sketch Maps may be required. 5. HISTORY.—A knowledge of the great persons and events of British History and of the growth of the British Empire. Special attention should be given to the persons and events connected with Wales and our own County. A few simple questions will be set on citizenship (Parliament: County, District and Parish Councils administration of Justice, Ac.) NOTES. This Syllabus has been based mainly on Art. 2 of the Elementary School Code, 190S, and on the various chapters dealing with the respective subjects in the Suggestions for the consideration of Teachers" issued by the Board of Education in 1905. The papers set will be mainly on the work of Standards I.—VI., but a pupil well up in Standard V. work should have no difficulty in qualifying. The Education Authority are offering County Entrance Scholarships in addition to those offered by the Governors of the different School Districts, preference being given to those candidates desiring to become teachers.
