A NEW PACIFIST TRAIL.
A NEW PACIFIST TRAIL. Tie Pacifistsf who found their occupation gUile when Liehnowsky's revêlatians were unloosed upon an imazed world., are engaged in es ploring the possibilities of a new trail. Setting up the Emperor Karl as the saint of the enemy con- federation, they affe-jt to find, in the letter to France and its handling by the Allies, a way to peace which We deliberately ignored. The Prime Minister is being assailed, with Clemenceau and some others, be. cause he and they missed a real chance, first of breaking away Austria-Hungary from the alliance of mid-European enemies, and, as a consequence, of securing a general peace. More tactful diplomacy, contend the Pacifists in their new role, might have won for the world a cessation long ago of the horrors which daily fill our cup. Sensible people, wbo are not taken astray by loud-mouthed pro- testations that even to thifik in terms of peace to-dav is infamous, can have but little sympathy with the frame of mind in which all enemy peace suggestions are dis- missed as "traps" mto which the irulnufcerai Allied are to be beguiled. We Would 6-11 welcome any way, any honourable way, put of å war which is sifrwly bleediiig the youth of Europe to death, It would be treachery to t-bo dyifi manhood of our land it wo did not explore every piblè ceases of ending the ccuft- fliet ifi a fnanfief compatible with our aims.
