Wil- hams and Moses Thomas), ordered deien- dant to pav 10s a wk The Y.M.C.A. at Aberavon are arranging a seri#i5 of concerts during the winter to entertain t.he wounded soldiers staying at. liaglan. and the first was held on TVednes- day when the bill;a: room at !he Y.M.C.A., which had been nicely deco- rated by Mr. Miles, was crowded. The chair was occupied by Mr. W. B. Hallowee. The programme was supplied by the Moody Concert Party, who more than sus- tained their reputation. Refreshments were supplied by the "Y.M.C.A. and j friends, and th0. wOl1nrkd men and nurses were conveyed in ears by Messrs. Andrew Scott, Robert Gibb, and W. Llewelyn.

Jones, and Aid. J. Jordan proposed, seconded, and supported a vote of tliank-s to too lecturer. The Chairman alluded to the official -■•ad news the Rev. J. Hywel Parry, Llnnsamlet. had received from the War Office, that his eldest son. Lieut. Tom Ellis Parry, was missing, believed killed and asked the audience to show its sincere sympathy with him by standing. At St. John's Church on Saturday even- ing a miscellaneous meeting was held. A collision occurred en the junction between the Great Westren Railway and the Neath "ld Brecon Railway Ix>w Level at Neath this afternoon, one goods train1 overtaking and running into another. The driver and the fireman of the former train, which was telescoped, were rather seriously injured, the firsfcnan sustaining a fractured leg. There were ten military appeals before the Wes," Glamorgan Appeal Tribunal, which sat at Neath, on Tuesday, under the presidency of Aid. Hop kin "organ. PORT TALBCT. Owing to the boisterous w-ather traffic at the port last week was considerably less than the corresponding week last year. The exports wore: Coal and coke, tons; fuel, 5,823; and a total of 42,019. The imports were 600 tons, representing scrap '200 and pig iron 400. The total tonnage was 42.SJ9, com- pared with 53,004 last year. The Aberavon, Port Talbot, Britonferry and District Coal Merchants' Association have appeared before the Coal and Coke Supplies Committee at Cardiff to protest against the high prices charged for coaJ. The Committee agreed that the cost of coal to the merchants was net in accord- ance with the provisions of the Coal Prices Limitation Act, and that the price mnst be red uced by 3s. a ton. The asso- ciation is in consequence reducing the price to consumers by the same amount— a concession which will be much appre- ciated

The Chairman said that the meeting was called to consider what Neath should do in the urgent matter of assisting in i financing t he war, and to form a com- mittee for carrying out the work. Mr. E. Black. South Wales organiser of the War Savings Committee, delivered an address in which be outlined the oh- • jects ot the scheme, and appealed to thr-v- present tiJ d" ail in t heir power to assist. Councillor J. Morris moved # resolu- tion approving of the proposal to form a local committee.—Aid. Dan Harry secomted the resolticn. which was carried unanimously.—Officials were appointed.

WOMEN AND FARM LABOUR. il Complaints of the disinclination of Devon farmers to make ii-- of women for labour on the land and of the low wages paid werp made at a meeting of the Devon Women's War Service Committee. At Newton Abbot women are readv to work, but there is no demand for their labour, said Miss Dickmson. Miss Cal- mady Uamlyn said one thing that mili- tated against women working on the land was the absurd prion farmers paid them. In Sooth Devon 6d. an acre had b,e.pi. paid tor weed-cutting. Only 7s. 6d. an acre was offered for pulling man- golds. whereas at Bridstow farmer's paid 12s. Another farmer paid a woman 1. for putting up 36 heaps of manure. This was shocking pay. and in the Dartmouth district it had stopped women's work.

Three were fined 15s., and the boy who did not appear 2>c. Two brothers (0 and 12) were charged on remand with breaking and entering the Red Lion Inn and stealing on Sun- day. 15th October, £ 27 odd. The boys had been in custody for a week. Mr. Lewis M. Thomas represented the boys. P.C. Osborne said that all possible in- quiries had been but the money could not be traced. In reply to Mr. Thomas, witness said that younger h, told many different tales as to where the monev was hidden. Both had admitted the offence Inspector Rees said that before they were taken io the remand house the younger boy said he wanted to tell the troth- ITe soil! he twk the money honio and put it in it drawer. On the following I day an aunt was in the house with his j mother. He took on! the money and placed it on the table. His mother said. You naughny boy. to steal money." LLANDILO. A Llandebie. coliier, Hy. Car rod, who had been absent from work for six weeks, was fined X"2 and handed over to the mili- tary authorities. He told P.S. Morgan, who arrested him, that he had on two | occasions endeavoured to see the, military | representative (Capt. Edwards), but bad failed. LLANDOVERY. Friday—before Messrs. C. P. Lewis, T. Watkins, Dd. Davies, and Isaac Wil- liams. David Jiees, King's Head Hotel, Llan- dovery. was charged with selling during illegal hours, and also with permitting liquor to be consumed, and Thomas Jones with being on the premises during illegal hours. Mr. T. C. Hurley (T. Geo. Wil- liams and Hurley, Llandilot w.,is for the prosecution, and Capt. Cremlvn (in- structed by Mr. Rhys W. Price) for the defence. The Bench, after Mr. Hurley's opening statement, adjourned the casa until Wednesday, as Capt. Cremlyn had to leave for Carmartlien with regard b matters connected with the military.
