AMMANFORD. I Mr. J. O. L. Stewart was presented with a puckct communion service ect and a purse of gold as a mark of the parishioner's esteem on his departure to take up a curacy in Derbyshire. The presentation took place at St. Thomas' Church, Mr. E. Hewlett, Wernolcu, pre- nlding. The gifts were Landed over by Mr. T. J. Mrs. W. N. Jones. Duffryn, presided. Tho characters were taken as fellows: Cinderella, Miss r Olwen Morns; Sisters, Miss Edith- Hnghes and Mis-s Brouwon William?: Fairy, Miss Sue Griffith*; Lurline, Miss Maggie Griffiths; Baron, Mr. Evtn liees; Prince. Mr. 1:1 vans; and Herald, Mast.'i David Evfcu Thomas. All acquitted tliem- svtdves excellently. The accompanist was Miss Annie M. Lawley, and tho violinist Mr. Edison Price, A.C.V. Miss Florence Jones, Dufiryn, hon. secretary of the Ammanford Red Cross centre, proposed a cordial vote of thanks to the Gwynfryn choir, conductor, and artistes, who bad given their services so freely and well towards a good cause. TTiis was seconded bv Mrs. J. Lewis, Brynrhug. and heartily carried. There was a similar compliment to the chairman, on the motion of Miss Eira Towyn Jones, seconded by Mrs. Henry Herbert. An interesting lecture on "Haydn" was given by Mr. D. B. Hees. Peuybank, to the members of the Pisgan oung People's Society, Mr. David Peregrine pre- siding. Several of Haydn's well known hlUPS were sung by Miss Marshall, Miss Peregrine, Mr. David Jenkins and a party under the leadership of Mr. D. B. ltees gave a rendering of the Creation." In addition to the ordinary classes under able tutorship of Mr. Rhys Thomas (head- master). there was a most successful Welsh class establish <xl, instruction being imparted by the Rev. D. Ellis Jones, B.A.. and a music theory class, under the direction of Mr. A. Moses. At tlie func- tion on Friday night there were very ap- preciatory references to the splendid tuition given. Tables were presided over by Miss R. Jenkins, Mrs. B. E. Jones, and Mi-ss A. J. Perrtne, with a number of other yomjtf ladies in attendance. After- wards there was a capital concert, Mr. J. Harries, J-P. (Irlwjii), in the chair. There were solos by Messrs. Arthur Davies, p. R. Griffiths (Amanwy), D. J. Fowler, W. Gritiitus, and Miss Sue Griffiths. Miss Ceinwen William* gave a pianoforte eolo, and Mr. Emlyn Thomas a violin solo, the latter also capturing a trophy in competition for the best wit. Addresses wore given by the chairman, j Mr. W. C.
