LEFT ON THE WEDDING- DAY. UNPLEASANT STORY FROM LLANELLY. Mary Ann Whihehouse, Hoelfawr, made an application at Llanelly Police Court on Monday • for a maintenance order against her husband, George F. White- house.—Mr. D. G. Rees defended. Mrs. "VVhitehouse stated that she was i separated from her husband for 12 years, and after living together for a month she again left her husband on account of his cruelty. When 1 separated her husband livpd with another woman. For two ¡' years before her marriage she wa-s with another man. The man for whom hhe formerly acted as housekeeper in Neath paid 3s. 6d. a week for the maintenance I, of her child in an industrial school. For the defence Mr. Rees alleged im- morality on the part of the woman. "Whitehouse said the woman left him ¡ on the day of his marriage and went to live with another man who was the father of eleven children. When it was dis- covered in the army that lie was 47 he was discharged, fie gave his age as 43. P.S. Davies said that since December he believed the woman had been living w.th another ma o. The Bench declined to make an order.

"FRAUGHT WITH GRAYE I DANGER. I Swansea District Council and Gas Ii Meter. At the meeting of the Swansea District Council on Wednesday a letter was read from the Ffoiestiach and District Trades and Labour Council expressing the apprecia- tion of the htter body of the opposition by the Council to the Swansea Gas Company's j Bill. The letter went on to draw attention to the grave danger attending and the in- convenience causec) by the installation of a meter by the company at Fforestfach for supplying gas to motor omnibuses. Mr. J. James said that in the past the gas supplied to Fforestfach had been of a very poor tjuality, but to-day, when the motor omnibuses sucked the gas from the main, the quality was poorer still. The installation of this nie.ter was fraught with grave danger, j for when the 'buses look the gas the light in the houses was lowered, and if it went out the danger was that when tlje 'buses had received their supply and the normal power wa» resumed in the houses, there might be an escape of gas. Considerable inconveni- I suce Avas also caused by the queues of 'buses waiting for gas. It was decided to appoint a deputation to interview the Gas Company on the matter,

At Norwich on Tuesday morning, the Lord Mayor presented the Military Medal to Corporal Frederick William Gigg, a resident .-if Swansea before the wa.r. and a painter and deoorator. During the attack on Ijangemarck last August, lie was wounded by a mustard gas shell, which Iestroy-ed the flesh tissues. Though ordered to < the dressing station. I Three boys, named Thoycr, Thornton, and Norman, all aged 15, were charged at the Swansea Juvenile Court on Tuosday with I unlawfully and maliciously wounding a Bel- gian, named Johannes Huybers, and causing him to lose an eyo. Mr. Rupert Lewis said Huybers was walk- ing along Foxhole-road on January 19tii with a flower in his ooat. when some boys came along and aeked him for the flower, which was refused, and the boys thereupou made use of bad language and pelted some stones at him..One stone struck has eye, causing him to fall down. Complainant could not see any more, and was taken to tho hospital, where an operation was per- formed and the left eye taken out. Complainant appesred in court with his head swathed in bandages, and reoognised one boy, Thornton, as one in the crowd who ha.d assaulted him.. Mr. W. A. Thomas, for the defence, Said one of the boys Mked for the flower, which was refused, and the Belgian struck him, whereupon the bovs startod pelting, and the Belgian retaliated. Chairman said the case was an extremely .-•prions one and was bordering upon hooli- r.-ani-nn, showing the Cowardly acts of a gang ot boys enjoying strength in numbers. He inflicted the maximum penalty of 40s. in each case, and severely warped the boys of a recur- I ivilee- of any like offence.
