COAL TRADE DULL. BUT, GENERAL IMPORTS SATISFACTORY. SWANSEA SHIPMENTS LAST WEEK. The scarcity of tonnage continued to be the dominating feature of the trade at the docks last week. The total showed a small increase over the pre- ceding week, but a considerabl e decrease compared with the corresponding week last year. Extreme dulness continued in the coal and patent fuel trades, but the geneffal exports were more satisfac- tory, due to a shipment for the Far East, etc. Imports inciiide-Holland 90 tons general, France 875 tons pit- wood and 150 tons iron ore, Italy 1-50 tons sand, and AustralIa. 2,200 tons zino concentrates. Imgorts 9,053 tont, Ex- ports 50,624 tons, and total trade 59,677 tons, compared with 55,3-53 tons the preceding week, and 78,910 tons the corresponding week last year, I Shipmen ts of coal 30,960 tons, patent fuel 9,945 tons, and tin-plates and gene- ral goods 9,719 tons. The latter for Denmark, Holland, France., Italy, the Far East and home pprts. Shipments of tin-plate 62,511 boxes, and receipts from works 41,786 boxes. Stocks in the dock warehouses and vans 182,041 boxes, compared with 203,041 boxes the preceding week, and 304,848 boxes at this date last year. Tonnage is due to load general cargo for Stavanger, Amsterdam, Nantes, Bordeaux, Lisbon and Oporto, Mar- seilles and near Italian ports.

The Swansea A\ ater and Sewers Com* mittee recommend to the Council that in order to, provide a stand-by for the 17. inch main conveying water from Cray to the Town Hill Reservoir, a pumping plant be installed at a suitable position in Car- marthen-road for the purpose of pumping water if necessity arises from the low level supply to the high level supply, the estimated capital cost of such pumping plant being £ 1,000.
