She was the daughter of the late Mr. David Thomas, cashier of the Rio Tinto Copper Works, and was a school teacher at Cymrner. The funeral was largely attended, the Revs. J. O. t Jones and R. S. Thomas oil Tuesday on David Oswald Richards (20), Alfred- street, Aheravon. a litter's helper at Port Talb?t Steelworks, who died at the hos- pital on Saturday afternoon from injuries received earlier in the day. Evidence was given that the boy was crushed be- tween the girder and the crane-driver's cabin. Dr. RatcliHe said death was due to shock due to sfvere injuries. At a recent examination in connection vith the London College of Music, the following were sncccssful: Doris Watkin» ¡ (with honours). Lily Pascoe (1st class), Mary Clement (1st class), Cyril Sambrook 11d (iracie Vincent. Mr. Kenneth Groves, assi-tant' master at the Mountain School and secretary of the local Y.M .C.A., has joined the colours. A united musica l festival was held at I JHU&aIfm Baptist Ch;ipel. The conduc- tor wa-s Mr. J. Singleton (Port Tnlbot). Accompanists were Miss Morfydd Daniel and Mr. T. Davies. The singing was of a high order. Members of the Aberavon &nd Pcwt Talbot section of the Xational Eisteddfod Choir greatly appreciate the geuerous spirit of the 'Eí:h'ctdlf'o1 Committee. The choristers have been practising nearly twelve months, have spent four or five shillings each on copies of music, and hav* attended some of them a dozen or n.ore rehearsals at Neath, paving their own fares. The Committee have made a grunt of ,£() bmards the expenses of the ladies. There was a suggestion that the choir members, in vietv of their sacrifice should have free admission to the Eistedd- fod meetings, and now that the financial success of the National is assured, they havo been met in a generous mood. Beor) an inquest was Jleld at Zoar Schoolroom, Waunarlwydd, on Wed- nesday, concerning the death of Meraq Irene Williams, aged 4, A hu v, as acci- dentally shot by her brother oil Tuesday. Xr. Livis Williaiiis, father, said he left the house at 6 a.m., and at 1.30 p.m. he was called home from Ulasbrook's Col- liery to find deceased had been shot by he- iittle brother. He (witness) had nut taken the cartridges out of the gun as it sequired. an instrument to do so. The flun was not cocked. Margaret A. Williams said her brother went into the parlour, but she did not see lilm come out. -She heard ,a gun go off, and on running out found her brother with his little sister in his arms. She took her from him. and then her aunt came in. The reason for the outcry is that for every Dutchman who comes to Krupp's workshops one more German workman io sent- to the front. The women are deter- mined that any Dutchman coming to Essen should be stoned. The police of Essen, who are reduced to one-tenth peace-time strength, are helpless.
