Monday.—The returns of the tmde of the port last week disclose a de- crease of 13.000 tons, compared with the receding week, but an increase of 17,000 ODS over the corresponding week last wear. There was a relapse in the import rade from the comparatively high gures of the previous week to the aver-! age of these times. The coall and patent uel exports also show a decline, but there ¡Wás a larger clearance of iron and steel. E1 Shipments of coal and patent fuel amount to 66,866 tons. SWANSEA. I The Rev. Percy M. Weston, at Kilvey on Sunday, asking for a substantial col- lection in aid of the Church Pastoral Aid Society, said he would not be averse to bank notes or even gold! Among those who have recently been home on leave are Pte. Harry Price, for- jnerly of the Leader staff, and Sergt. Edgar Garnett, of Ystalyfera. Both have been wouncled tw,ce, and the two returned to France together.

ALLTWEN. Mr. John MacMock, a well-known figure in Alltwen, died suddenly at his home in Gwyn-street, Alltwen, on Saturday. De- ceased it appears returned to bed after breakfast and soon afterwards complained of feeling unwell. Dr. Dahne was sent for, but Mr. Maddock passed away before the arrival of th< 4oftor. Deceased was about 49 years of age,' and leaves a widow and several children.

Coun- cillors Evan Lloyd, William Bowen (Pon- tjardawe group), and Ben Davies (Higher Elementary) were re-elected schools man- agers for the ensuing term. Mr. John Clement (Craigcefnparc), was elected member of the Council to fill the casual vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. F. W. Lilley .Camplaints were made re- garding fhe methods of distributing food.

On Saturday afternoon one of the most I impressive funerals seen at Bur?yport took place, when the mortal remains of the late Miss iMketta Groom, head mis- tress of the Copper Works School, was laid to rest at Tebarnacle Graveyard. I Llandovery Town Council have in- creased the salary of the medical officer of health (Dr. Morgan) from S20 (the amtlunt at which it was fixed 30 years ago) to £35, on the ground that the clerical work had trebled in the interval. The wages of the seaveoger, who provides hit own horee, were increased from £2 5s. to t2 10s. At the monthly meeting of the Llan- dovery Town Council on Saturday, the Mayor, Mr. Dl. Jones presiding, a resolu- tion was received from the local branch of the N.U.R. urging the Council to re- quest the Reception Committee to fix the time of meetings when presentations to local roldiers and sailors from the front was made at an hour when it would be convenient for everybody to attend.

LANDORE. 'I The Rev. J. P. Gougti (pastor of Her- mon, Plasmarl). occupied the pulpit at Dinas Chapel, Lan,(Iore, on Sunday. Mr. Gough is now employed on munition work. Prior to his entering the Ministry lie had served his time with the Navy, havng the position of commo- dore. On Saturday at the Exchange Restau- rant, the employes at the mill department of the British Mannesman Tube Works as- sembled for the purpose of making a pre- sentation to their mill manager. Air. J. Riemann, on the occasion of his impend- ing departure to take up an important ap- pointnaent in the Midlands. Mrs. Roi- mann was also the recipient of a presenta- tion. The chair was occupied by Mr. J. P. Walters. Responding, Mr. Rcitnann expresspd the appreciation and gratitude of himself and his wife for the kindness and sympathy shown, to them by the em- ployes, and also for the excellent gifts pre- cented to hdm. He was sure that when ho should reflect upon his 28 yan" aesocia- t'on with the Landore works, those reflec- tion; would be bright and happy ones..

PONT ARDULAIS. I In aid of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Reception Fund, an entertainment was given at Babell Baptist Chapel on Satur- day evening. The Rev. B. Elwyn Williams (pactor) presided, and the accompanists were Messrs. George Jones and David John Rees. Miss Alice Greening (James- street) won an open drawing competition. Tho following contributed to the pro- gramme: Misses Eunice V. Jones, Bron- wen Morgan, S. J. Willian12, May Davies, Millicent Jones, Eirlys Davies, Katie Griffiths, Messrs. Willie Price, Trevor Davies, Morgan Morgan, W. Jenkyn Jones, Roderick Davies, Idris Price, Gwilym Davies, W. J. Davies, W. ±1. Davies, and Glenvilty Davies. After several years' painful illness, the death took place at Swansea. Hospital on Sunday morning s of Mr. Hugh. Evans, Sawel-terrace, Kendy. Pontardulais. He was 58 years of age, and had for 35 years acted as procentor of Hope Congrega- tional Church, where he was also a deacon. A native of Swansea Valley, the deceased gentleman took a prominajit 'I part in Union affairs of. the tinplate trade.

AFAN VALLEY MINERS. I Question of Transferring Colliers to I the Shipyards. The monthly district meeting of the Afan Valley miners was held at the Dooers' Hall, Po," Talbot, on Saturday, Mr. Thomas Thomas (Skewen) presiding. It was re- ported to the meeting that the agent, Mr. W. Jenkins, had been selected as nominee of the miners to contest the Aberavon Divi- sion, and that h's name had been accepted by the South Wales Federation, and would be put to the vote with any other person nominated by any other trade union. Mr. Jenkins thanked the members of the district for their appreciation of his past services as miners' agent and aa a public man representing them for the last 17 years on local authorities. The agent reported upon an interview he had had with the Ccal Controller in con- nection with the Oakwood dispute, and also on the question of the transference of men from the mines to other industries. Satisfactory progress had been made for a 1-irzo number cf men at present idle to be transferred to shipyards and to timber felling. The representative of the Minister of Employment undertook to convey all the proposals in writing to the Rt. Hon. Thos. Riobards, M.P. It was decided with reference to the va- cancy on the Neath Rural District Oouncil to represent Michaelaton Higher Division (Owmavon), and a ballot of miners be taken on the two persons nominated, Messrs. T. Morgan and J. Jones Edwards. This will he done on February 21st.
