AN APPEALI
AN APPEAL I FOR THE WIDOWS AND DEPENDENTS. AQGUT £3il REQUIRED. W« ARE living in hope. Yesterday Xmas gifts were sent to about 400 cases, involv- ing A total of about 1,200 women and children. Names are stili coming in. The amount already distAbuted is over the amount in hand or promised, and &bout 920 or Y,30 more is required. In the hope of getting the required amount within the next few days, we iua4 a special appeal to our readers who have not subscribed AS yet to the fund for providing Xmas Day gifts for the widows and children of Swansea soldier^ who have fallen at the front. A very large number of pathetic cases have retched us, showing that the pro- vision being made is far below what any- one can regard as comfortable. Here is the caee in a nutshellThe soldiers, the breadwinners of these widows and orphans, have given their LIVES in order that we at home may live in safety and comfort. Small grants are made to them from the national funds, but the grants are so small that no little extras for Xmas Day is possible without some out- side gifts. The 6th Welsh Committee wants to provide a little in the shape of XMTE cheer. Will you help with a trifler The gifts are arranged on a capitation basis—so much for each widow and so much for each child. Another set of donations comes from the Docks Committee, upon which Messrs. A. W. II. Wynne, Paul Cocks and H. Stan. ley L. Cook, and Major T. Merschel. Jones have tendered very kind assist- ance. To those who anticipate realisation O the wish, A Merry Christmas the ap peal on behalf of those who cannot en tertain such hopes is urged in all earnest nesa. All money subscribed will be devotee! directly to the purpose for which it if given, as all administrative expenses arc- borne by the Directors of the Cambrio Daily Leader," A statement of accounts- will be issued to the cubberiberd in due course. Subscriptions may be sent to either Mr. David Roberts (hon. treasurer), 19, Heathneld-street; or to Mr. A. P. Higham (hon. sec.), "Leader Buildings, ¡ Swansea. SUBSCRIPTIONS TO DATE. IBIG OUTPUT OF SHELLSI
I BIG OUTPUT OF SHELLSI Allies Making 800,000 Every Day. Pais, Wedneaday.-M. Albert Thomas, the Minister of Munitions, declared in the presence of some journalists that the de- velopment in the production of war materials in France is making considerable progress. To-day it has reached 600 tons of explosives per day, whilst at the begin- ning of the year it only amounted to 130 tons. Germany is making 600,000 shells in twenty-four hours, but the Allies together supply 800,000 a day. These magnificent results are obtained with 21 per cent. of female labour. Ad- mitting that Germany is succeeding, by means of her submarines, in rendering communication with America irregular, our stocks of material wiH allow us to maintain this rate of production for several weeks.—Wireless Press.

PRIZEDAY.
PRIZEDAY. Scholastic Successes in the Amman Valley. Prise Day in connection with the AtnJ man Valley County School was held on Wednesday afternoon at the Y.M.C.A- Ammanford Ald. W. N. Jones, J.P. Dyffryn, presr ed, and the event was at- tended by educationists from all parts of the district. Dealing with the work of the school during the year, the heta- master said it had been one of solid pto-l press all round. The scope of their work' was widened; the novelty and strangeness of the first year had worn off; pupils and teachers became better acquainted with. each other; and in spite of many ob- stacles they felt they were getting inta their stride. He thought the time was ripe for raising the limit of a pupil's stay at the school from two years to threat years at least. The Chairman stated that as far ag numbers went, the school had dene ex- ceedingly well. Some of them had al. ways felt there was room in the district) for two schools, and the result to-day justified that view. Both Llandilo and Ammanford schools were doing -cel-, lently. He said he intended placing ani acre of land at the disposal of the staff and pupils for cultivation. Priases were distributed by Mrs. Fishes^ Wans beck, and Mrs. Hy.
