UH_ GRAND THEATRE. KfSS EVELYN ORMONDE RE-VISIT S SWANSEA IN THE GREAT PLAY, "THE LAND OF PROMISE." fSpecial to the Cambria Daily Leader."} tflSS EVELYN ORMONDE. A real breezy, healthy Canadian play is to be witnessed at the Grand Theatre, Swansea, next week, in The Land of promise." by W. Somerset Maugham, feeing played by Mr, Thos. C. Dagnall's London Company. This is the third visit this wonderful play we've had since the war commenced. original, the story deals with a' young: girl, who. after spending many, jroars in England as a lady's companion, I is compelled to go to Canada to earn her living. Unfortunately, while possessed fcrith l>oundless courage, -she aho has a gleat amount of pride, which meets with tKunt sympathy among the rough, yet kind-hearted Canadians. The great fight hw between the refined English girl and br stron, rough husband. Eventually the girl recognises that love can vet 1w stronger than pride, and the first- touch of adversity which affects her husband proves how deep her love is for him, and to what sacrifice h c is prepared to go for his sake. Needless to say, beneach the rough exterior of her big, burly hubby there beats- a heart which overflows with tenderness for the English girl he hac made his wife. Both recognise their short- comings, and a beautifully acted story finds a most happy ending, Theatre-goers will be particularly pleased to rene-i* the acquaintance of Miss Evelyn Ormonde, who will be remembered as a delightful "BlI nlY" in "Bumy Pulls the Strings," and as Norah/' her present part of the English girl, Miss Ormonde more than comes up to expecta- tions. Mr. Cyril Fairlie also gives a very one pourtrayal of the rough diamond. Frank Taylor," and pre, enfs a most [successful study. ONE OF THE MANY STRONG SITUATIONS IN THE GREAT PLAY.
