Root-, aged 44. 2, Mason's-roud, Gorecinon, was. held (--a Thursday by the deputy- coroner ilfr. J. C. Wilson) and a jllry. Mrs. Edith Root (wife) stated that her husband had been night foreman at the Mountain Colliery, and although he had been suffering great pain with his legs, had continued his wcrk up to 'i'ue&day night. On Wednesday morning he did not return until 9.30—an hour or two after his usual time. He proceeded to a bell tent at-the bottom of the garden, v. here sleeping accommodation had been provided, but in about an hour and a liall h firnt'd to tlve houje and at m front <n the tire. She then left the house, think- ing that being alone he would eventuallv go to bed. r pon her return at ten minuf.es paet twelve he was still by thf. kitchen fire. At 12.30 p.m. he went up- stairs. and following his usual practice, called the two young children up to kiM. him. Immediately the children descended the ffairs she heard a ¡"hot, and rushed upstairs. Finding him in his sleeping attire, and thinking he was only trying to frighten her, she eaid: Get. into bed, Jiintny." Before she got to the bottom of the -5tairi another .shot was fired. Dr. Mitchell, M.D. stated that he had attended duceased a few months ago for diabetes, but though not permanently cured, deceaseo managed to resume his employment. No doubt a recurrence of it would have given much pain. He was summoned about 12.50 on Wednesday, and ionnd deceased in the position described by the wife. The wound in the right temple was caused bv a revolver shot fired at close range, and death had practically been instantaneous. In reply to a question, he stated that it could have been self-inflicted. Mrs. Hannah Ipwis. 3, Boundary-place, ak-o gave c.orrohorative evidence. "A Devil of a Ptow. I Nathan Davies, f;, Pontardulais-road, a barman, employed at the West End Hotel, stated that deceasod had called at the hotel about 7 a.m. ou Wednesday, and left abort 8.30 a.m. Witness served him tnegs t;erved hini with three glasses of runi. Witness and deceased ar- ranged another outing for Sunday next to the Mumbles on cycles. Tie jury returned a verdict, that whilst of unbound mind deceased shot himself.
STRONG NERVES NEEDED I
STRONG NERVES NEEDED The need for people to be healthy is I urgent. Those whom illness has put out- side the ranks of robust ruen and women feel their position k'-cnly; and weak men and nerve-worn women need more ear- nestly than ever to put their health right and become strong. Many who began patching months ago are as ill now as on the day they be- gan vainly tinkering with common drugs. Remember this, the il)s of debility, nervous exhaustion, insomnia, indiges- tion, neuralgia, and depression arise from a faulty blood supply. Worry, overwork and other causes have impoverished the blood and left the life stream.impure. The nerves thereby are starving, and the hole system is languishing for new blood. Then retloot. that many thousands of nervous, afflicted men and w<->men have won back good health hy renewing their Mood and feeding their nerves with Dr. Williams' Pink Tills. So may you. and still follow your regular employment. Full-blooded people are energetic, ambitious, healthy, strong. To abundant red blood they owe their splendid appe- tite aud regular good health. So try Dr. Williams' Pink Fills tor Pale People to. day, and see how in short time these pills create ne-v blood and banish illness. Buy them at dealer; but remember, sub. f-titutes will not do; ask plainly at shops for Dr. William?- FRL-E.-Writt, for a copy of the Health Guide. Rev. Ungoed Thomas seconded. Churches and the Crisis. AftPT the business meeting a discussion took place on the subject, Churches and the National Crisis. It, was opened by the President, the Rev. L'ngoed Thomas. Mr. Thomas took the line that there was need of a call to repentance by the churches. Speaking of the church univer- sal, he said there was need of humiliation. There wa.s -something in the Now Testa- mcut that wa.s missing from the churches of to-day. The churches had compromised too long, and compromise was against tho very genius of Christianity. The churches ihould pray for deliverance out. of this crisis. The War Office was the recruiting serge?, nt, and not. the church. The Church of Christ had its special work, and tho work was that of intercession. There was a. possibility that we are forgetting the almighty power of God. War- God dead? Prayer was the pang that moved the arm that moved the world. What wo called accidents on the battlefield were divine iiiternention very often. fibl Kei) in Ef-rategy were divine intervention very often. The Hov. W. D. Carmarthen, followed. He deplored the weak state, of the churches and the weak character of many of their members, instancing the difficulty they had had at Carmarthen over the licensing qllpsl ion. Mr. Richard Watkins. Revf. J. Evans Jones, D. M. Davies (Wa-unarlwyddj, Griffiths, and others took part in the dis- cussion. The delegates were afterward s enter- tained to tea through the generosity of Mr. Moses Thomas, the town clerk of Aberavon. A public meeting was held in the I evening.
