Rhys Bevan, 26, Ralph-street, Llanelly, sought to recover R100 from Eliza- beth Gale and Lloyds Bank. Mr. T. R. Ludford appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Clark Williams (instructed by Messrs. Roderick and Richards) for the defence, while \ir. E. Kammerer vatched the case for Lloyds Bank. The story told by plaintiff was that at the end of the year 1912 he had saved a sum of £ 125 5s 2d., which he had deposited in Lloyds Bank. About Christmas time that year he visited his sister in Llanelly. He had not seen her for 16 years. During his stay, at her suggestion, he made over to a deposit account u. her name £OO of the money he ha" in his possession. Mr. Clark Williams produced a document purporting to-, be plaintiff's mother's will, bv which £ 275 was left. :4} Plaintiff said that he left his sister's house because he had no comfort there. For the defence, it, was urged that the money was given as a giit, and it was sug- gested that plaintiff had held other monies in (he joint names of himself and his mother, which monies plaintiff now had in his own name in th-, bank. His Honour gave judgment for the defen- dant, Elizabeth Gale, holding that the money was given as a gift. It was intimated that the defendant would bear the whole cost's of the case.

SWANSEA CLAIMS I I TO WELSH NATIONAL ART I COLLEGE. I |PRINCIPAL GRANT MURRAY'S I OPINIONS: Principal Grant Murray, the director of the Swailseii, Municipal School of Art, and Crafts, says in regard to the proposed Welsh School of Painting that if a Welsh School of Fainting is desired it must be paid for in Wales. The present-day painters will do little or nothing towards establishing a dis- tin^t yjjitj definite school, "You must look to the students w arw studying in the various listitutions jit}w— they will be the founders of the future Welsh School of'Painting." Regarding a,nother proposal—-the estab- lishment of a Welsh National College of Art —Principal Murray says "This institution must necessarily go to the town that can command it by reason bf its superiority of equipment, staff, etc. "In Wales there are only five schools—no overlapping, but considerable underlapping. During the past few years Swansea has been laying the foundations for an art centre. The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, with an excellent I nucleus illustrating nearly all the arts and art industries. The Deffet Francis Art Gal- lery has been renovated and reorganised, and it is undoubtedly one of the finest provincial collections of its kind in the United King- dom. "The S-chool of Arts and Crafts has also been reorganised and is making its influence felt in Soutli Wales. Its success has been exceptional—in five years the students' at- tendances have increased from 6.000 to 40,000. "In 1910 the Swansea Art School took 140th place in England and Wales; it is now the 25th. "If the work progresses in the future as it has done during the past few years, Swan- sea should have a fair -claim for one of the Central Schools, if not for the National Col- lege of Art for Wales."

KING AND QUEEN TO YlSir PARIS: HISTORIO EVENT. It is officially announced that, circum- stances permitting, the King and Queen will go to Paris, oil a visit to the President of the French Republic, in April next. An official visit to the head of the French nation by their Majesties is a unique occa- sion. So far as can be ascertained, no British King and Queen have ever made a Ptate progress in company through the streets of the French capital, and the ap- proaching entry into Paris of King George and Queen Mary is. therefore, an event of great historical interest, quite apart from its political significance ais marking the cordia l relations which now, happily, exist between the two countries.

IF "'THE BILL" PASSES. LADY. LLEWELYN'S APPEAL AT SWANSEA. A successful bazaar was held in St. Mat- thew's Church Hall, High-street, Swansea, on Thursday (as already reported in our edi- tions on Thursday evening). The opening ceremony was performed by Lady Dillwyn Llewelyn, who was supporte d by Rev. T. C. Evans (vicar), Mrs. Evans, Mr. Joseph Hall, Mrs. Vcnabk-s Llewelyn, Rev. Enoch Jones (curate, St. Matthew's Church), Rev. W. It. Hardie (vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Swansea), Air. Grey Walters (churchwar- den). Mrs. Eden, and others. The Vicar, in introducing Lady Llewelyn, said she was known and esteemed all over South Wales. Lady Llewelyn was received with applause. She said that she was very glad to find that the Chiirchpeople of that parish had in their mind the improvement of the surroundings of the church, which was evidently needed. She was also very glad to see the Church- people working together. Lady Llewelyn, referring to the threatened Disestablishment of the Church, said that if it came to pass (which they all hoped it would not), she hoped that the Cnureh- people of that parish and all other parishes would put THMKs^OULJJCKaO THE WHEEL and do aU ih« f,»0 9""# of--the Church.1 A vote of thanks, proposed by Mr. Grey Walters, seconded by the Rev. AN INTERESTING POINT. Llanelly Gentleman and Telephone Trunk Calls. At Llanelly County Oourt. on Monday an action was down for hearing in which the Postmaster-General sued Mr. J. C. Hill, M.R.C.Y.S., in respect of telephone calls. Mr. T. R. Ludford, who appeared on be- half of the Postmaster-General, said that I Mr. Hill had raised a question as to whether they were entitled to charge for excess calls. He also insisted upon the Postmaster-Gene- ral proving that he had actually received 500 calls. It was more or less a question of account and he suggested that the mattecr be referred to the registrar. 1 Mr. Hill said there was also a claim for trunk calls which he disputed. He sug- geted that the two cases be taken together. His Honour said he could not do that. At present there was only one case before the court. It was decided to refer the matter to the registrar.

"THE LAW AGAINST HIM." Judge's Sympathy for Llanelly Defendant At Llanelly on Monday Thomas Tlhomaa made a claim against Thomas Bowen in re- spect of the alleged wrongful removal of sheds and fixtures from a farm. Mr. H. B. Roderick appoolrod for the plaintiff, and Mr. F. R. Ludford defended. Mr. Roderick stated that the sheds re- moved -were worth albout E26 standing and :£3 if pulled down. The auctioneer was present, probably with lending the defend- ant a little liorat support. Thomas Thomas, St. David's, Bryn, fanner, said that in 1912 he purchased Bryn Farm. Defendant, who was the tenant, left last October. When he made the purrrihase the hay shed and three other sheds together with some fencing was on the farm. He groduced the contTact under ?hMh he' bought. Defend?ft removed the sheds. Mr. F. N. Powell, auctioneer, said it was clearly stated tlhat the tenant's fixtures were not included. His Honour said he was satisfied that the premises were sold subject to the tenmt bein able to remove the fixtures. His Honour stated that a section of the Agricultural HoMings Act was riaitheir aejaiinst the defendant. It would be a rather hard case for him, but the law ap- peared against him. He would reserve his decision until meccfc month.

RESPECTED OLD SKETTY RESIDENT. Mrs. Thomas Perkins, the Bryn, Sketty, who died at the age of 78 afer only a fort- night's illness, at her residence, had lived in Skettv all her life, while she and her hus- band "had been married upwards of fifty years. Much sympathy is felt with the be- reaved family, and on Friday when the in- terment took place in Cockett Churctxyard a large number attended the funeral. The Rev. D. Akrill Jones, vicar of Sketty, offici- ated at the home and graveside. The prin- cipal mourners were: Mr. Thomas Perkins (husband), Messrs. W. H. Perkins and M. ,1, Perkins (sons), Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson (daughter), Mr. and Mrs. Boxall (son-in- law and daughter), Messrs. D. J. Perkins (Commercial Inn, Killay) and Herbert James (Dunvant) (nephews), Mrs. Davies (ndece), Messrs. M. and H. Eaton (nephews). Mes- dames Martha Harries and H. Harries (Loughor) (nieces), Messrs. Thomas, Joseph and George Jenkins (brothers), Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Jenkins (aister-in-law and brother). Miss Jane Jenkins (sister), A, lr. Arthur James (family solicitor), Mr. Hufisey and others. "IGNORED HER IN STREET." ABERAYON BENCH AS PEACEMAKERS. At Aheravon on Monday Blodwen Rees, Bath-street, Port Talbot, summoned hef husband, Jnkin M. Rees, schoolmaster, Sandfields, A beravon, for desertion.— Mr. L. M. Thomas appeared for com- plainant, and Mr. Moses Thomas de- fended. The case had previously been adjourned to enable the parties to come to an ar- rangement. Mr. L. M. Thomas said that his client was prepared to return to her husband and live anywhere with him. The Bench further endeavoured to effect a settlement, but as the defendant declined to give up the custody of the youngest child the case was proceeded with. Complainant said that they were mar- ried in August, 1911, and had two child- ren. In May last- year he TURNED HER CUT OF THE HOUSE with one of the children, and told her not to come back. She went home, and' he had since refused to have anything to do with her, and had refused to speak to her in the street. In September she wrote asking him to provide a homo for her, and telling him that she was broken- hearted at not seeing the child. At this stage Dr. Jones (chairman) had a consultation with the defendant and his wife, and later announced that he had effected a reconciliation.
