Griffiths, it should be stated, is one of the organists at Penuel Chapel, ¡' and the news of her notable dis- tinction will be hailed with satisfac- tion by her many friends. < LADIES' CHOIR,- Rbymney's cele- brated Ladies' Choir, under the capable direction of Miss Mary Rich- ards, U.C. W., have since their not- able success at the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales, given a number t of successful concerts both at home' and in various towns in the county, and are booked to appear at New Tredegar on February 6th in a first- class concert organised by the New Tredegar Relief Fund. mm* OBITUARY —As briefly announced in our last issue, the death took place on Friday, of Miss Irene Price, the beloved eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Price, grocers, 36, High-street, after a trying illness borne with mnch fortitude. The deceased was of a most amiable disposition, and, like the other members of the family, beloved by a large number of friends, and the news of her demise at the early age of 22 has been received with pro- ound sorrow by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. Miss i Price, who was just entering into a career full of promise in the scholastic profession, having been on the staff of the Prineetown School for seme time, when she was stricken with a .serious illness. Despite the beat of medical aid and careful nurs- ing of a devoted mother, the end came peacefully on Friday morning. By her death St David's Church and Sunday school have lost a most zeal- ous worker. Prior to her illness, she faithfully discharged the duties of organist at the Welsh services for some years, and was accompanist at numerous concerts organised under, the auspices of the Church and its institutions. The funeral, took place on Tuesday afternoon, the large and representative gathering testifying in a marked degree to the high esteem in which the departed was held. The interment was at the Rhymney Churchyard, the Vicar (Rev. J. R Dewi Williams) and his curate officiating. RHYMNEYS PRISONERS OF WAR. MOVEMENT TO HONOUR THEM As briefly announced in our last issue, Councillor D. T. Williams, at the meeting of the Rhymney Council on Wednesday, referred to the need of doing something for the returned prisoners of war of Rhymney. He said they had mentioned the matter at the Welcome Home Fund Com- mittee. The officials recognised that something should be done for the men in the town. Some of them had been home for several weeks, and the committee thought they should have a public recognition. A number of them had suffered a great deal since they went out in August of 1914. The Welcome Home Fund recognised the men who came home from France, by awarding them 15s. each. Some districts gave their prisoners £5 or £7 10s. grants, and Abertysswg had done well in this respect. It was difficult to meet these men one by one, but if a joint meeting of all the men was held, and some publio memento for the sacri- fice which they had endured, it would be very nioe. He thought it was the duty of the council to take the initiative in the matter. Mr Ben Jones, J.P., said that 11 or 12 prisoners of war had returned, and another two were due. Aber. tysswg had done very well with their prisoners 6f war. Mr John Evans We gave one man £ 30. Mr Bin Jones stated that there was a sum of about £ 10 for the prisoners, and up to the present each man had been given 10s. on account. Finally, it was arranged that the matter should be mentioned at the public meeting, which will be held on the 29th inst. in connection with the War Memorial Scheme. ————

I CREDIT TO WHOM IT IS DUE. I Mr T. Gabriel, F.T.S.C Bargoed the well-known musician and oom- poser, writes :—" A report appeared in your Journal, December 20th, re the success of Mr E. J. Owen's final examination for the Licentiate, and the credit, although being prepared by me for all the necessary stages, was given to the present conductor of the Bargoed and District Oratorio Society, of which Mr Owen is its vice- president. Consequently, I wrote Mr W. Harrison, M.A., Mus. Bac. (Oxon), the secretary of the College, to ascertain whose name was in- serted upon the entrance form of the final examination, and the following is Mr Harrison's reply to my enquiry. The College, 26.
